Italy figures.

Babyroobs · 15/03/2020 17:44

Bloody hell- Italy deaths are shocking.

EssentialHummus · 15/03/2020 17:44

People are talking about a baby boom from the self/isolators but can anyone else see the divorce rate spiking after all this is over??! (Only partially lighthearted!!)

Yes! I always wfh, DH is now WFH, the toddler is likely to be off childcare... it's not a recipe for domestic bliss.

mrshoho · 15/03/2020 17:45

Widget that's what I worry about too. Some people isolating at home won't ask for help in time. Please can the government issue clear advice rather than just say wait 7 days. I've seen how quickly pneumonia can cause life threatening symptoms. This is without even having coronavirus. The message should still be 999 for emergencies such as struggling to breathing.

Full scale Pub and restaurant closures touted in UK. Is it me or is the government backtracking?
You can’t get the whole population infected in 4 months if you shut everything down!!!

Babyroobs · 15/03/2020 17:46

Me and dh are snapping at each other as he doesn't seem to be taking the risk seriously enough, I am niggling at teens to stay in / not go to the gym/ not travel on buses etc.

LuxLFC · 15/03/2020 17:46

Trying to find a thermometer but everything is either sold out or too expensive for me. Loads on eBay all from China based sellers (even though I select UK only)! No thanks!

Loppy10 · 15/03/2020 17:46

Dutch gov has announced all cafés, clubs, restaurants, schools and gyms to close from tonight until april 6th.

Babyroobs · 15/03/2020 17:47

Amazon had lots of reasonably priced thermometers.

Where have you seen that?

buttonmoonb4tea · 15/03/2020 17:48

I'm trying to start a petition but having difficulty wording it.

Please can someone help?

I have this so far "The UK government should sanction all of those with COVID 19 symptoms to be tested. The current advice and guidance introduced on Thursday 12th March 2020, that only those who are admitted to hospital will be tested for the virus means that the current number of confirmed cases in the UK is incorrect"

NoWordForFluffy · 15/03/2020 17:48

I might feel the need for a new patio after a week or so cooped up with DH and the kids. 😂

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 17:49

Peston mentioned it.

TheBenefitsPeople · 15/03/2020 17:49

@LuxLFC try your local homeware shop for a food temperature probe. We have been using this and it is just as accurate (under the tounge) as MILs people thermometer!

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 15/03/2020 17:49

Switzerland is doing Switzerland - i.e. being federalist to the max. Restrictions are being tightened hourly - but all on state level so far.

I'm expecting nation-wide lock down some time next week.

Loppy10 · 15/03/2020 17:49

BREAKING: Ireland toughens its restrictions, closing pubs and bars (including hotel bars) until the end of the month, and asking people not to hold house parties.

"The Government, having consulted with the Chief Medical Officer, believes this is an essential public health measure given the reports of reckless behaviour by some members of the public in certain pubs last night."

PointlessUsername · 15/03/2020 17:50

What will happen to those younger than 70 but still vunerable due to health conditions will they be able to isolate also?.

I am really worried about ds attending school his asthma is not well controlled despite all sorts of medications and GP are reluctent to give him steriods again as he has had 4 lots in last year.

ScatteredMama82 · 15/03/2020 17:50

Isolating the old will be hard if my MIL is anything to go by. She still thinks it’s a fuss about nothing, and will undoubtedly carry on her daily life as usual. She attends various volunteer societies, goes to the theatre, cinema etc regularly. I’m trying to get her to appreciate that it’s not just about her. Staying home reduces the chance of hospitals being overwhelmed. She doesn’t get it though (or doesn’t want to).

fedup21 · 15/03/2020 17:51

@Angryrant55

Right-I can’t seem to find any link to it.

Derbygerbil · 15/03/2020 17:53

You can’t get the whole population infected in 4 months if you shut everything down!!!

Give it a week and they won’t need to shut them down... people will stop going as even the nonchalant become spooked at our numbers accelerating faster than anywhere...

The Government’s plans only work if we continue to spread Coronavirus. This requires the UK public to continue to cram into buses, tubes and trains.... continue to go to pubs, restaurants and bars.... and revert to our grubby ways. I find it difficult to think the UK public will be up for this as rest of the world look on aghast and we become the Corona capital of the world.

Janemarpling · 15/03/2020 17:53

Fed up was it this?

Other measures already being planned include:
the forced requisitioning of hotels and other buildings as temporary hospitals;
the requisitioning of private hospitals as emergency hospitals;
temporary closure of pubs, bars and restaurants - some time after next weekend's ban on mass gatherings;
emergency manufacture by several companies of respirators that would be necessary to keep alive those who become acutely ill;
the closure of schools for perhaps a few weeks, but with skeleton staff kept on to provide childcare for key workers in the NHS and police.

LuxLFC · 15/03/2020 17:54

@ Babyroobs a lot are china sellers, they'll say it will come in a few days but it won't.

@TheBenefitsPeople thanks for the tip!

Derbygerbil · 15/03/2020 17:54

By grubby ways I mean not hand washing much and coughing and spluttering over each other in public places.... How else will 40m get infected before next winter?!

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 15/03/2020 17:56

I've said this before. My DM had hourly obs in hospital, last one was fine - and she was dead from pneumonia, according to the post-mortem, before they did the next set of obs.

(We actually believe there was a massive cover up, but if it was true, then...)

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 17:59

jenny hill - 'Official corona figures from Germany: 4838 cases ( rise of 1043 from yesterday ). 12 people dead.'
