Am I the only one who finds the Coronovirus inconvenient more than anything?

My husband, daughter and I are all fit and healthy and had Disney booked for Easter. Now it’s looking like we can’t go which for us personally, is a total bugger. I can’t even get through on the lines to cancel and get my money back and have to leave it a week because the lines are jammed.

I went to the supermarket on Thursday and today to get hand wash and some other bits. The first was totally sold out of soap and pasta. The second...:it was like the apocalypse. No canned food.....no bread...the idea of hand wash, soap or shower gel was a joke and all the branston pickle was gone. Branston fucking pickle?!?!?

I over heard a lady saying she can’t get nappies for her kids because they are all gone.

Some kid sneezed at a flip out /trampoline place today and I swear I thought some of the parents were going to shoot him where he stood. The rate they were going on you’d think he’d been licking the hand rails or something.

If you turn the news on, all you hear is about covid (as if nothing else is happening in the world) and it’s so dramatic. Have you seen the screen the bbc put up with covid plastered across it? It’s highly inflammatory and not even slightly reassuring.

Before people lay into me about being selfish I totally get why SOME portions of the community are worried. I get it because my father and father in law are elderly and both suffer with serious health issues and presumably you and they would implement the measures they can but normal people in a similar situation to me have lost their fucking minds!!!!

I said this yesterday but people do realise that in order to stop this from spreading, everyone needs to be able to access some form of soap. What good is it doing if you are wading into your bathroom, knee deep in it all when the rest of the world hasn’t got any 🙄

And YABU for using the word "holibobs" Envy

Hotcuppatea · 14/03/2020 17:11

Agree with you 43Starbuck8419. And i feel very uncomfortable with the ghoulish relish that people show at times like this as they savour the next bit of Bad News.

Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:13

No tinfoil hat I'm afraid. I'm not a prepper. I don't believe in conspiracy theories. I have simply been paying attention to updates from the WHO.

I do understand the need to dismiss me, however, as I recognise the facts about what is happening are simply too frightening for people to be able to cope with.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:13

@Rosainryehead it’s too easy.

OP posts:
Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:13

@Hotcuppatea it’s quite perverse and I’m enjoying and frustrated to meet people that seem to form a hierarchy over those who don’t buy into it all. It’s weird.

OP posts:
Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:16

Mate there is nothing to "buy into". It is like saying you don't "buy into" the sky being blue.

I genuinely don't understand this attitude. People seem to either be sitting in nuclear bunkers surrounded by loo roll claiming the end is nigh or sitting there with their fingers in their ears annoyed they might not be able to go on holiday this year.

Both attitudes are dangerous.

tobee · 14/03/2020 17:17

I find it exhausting. Not boring. Exhausting because it's new. Exhausting because it's unknown. Exhausting because my anxiety is going up and down.

There are many threads on here that are massively doom laden. Pretty much repeating the same things over and over. They may well be the sensible ones. But I know from past experience with anxiety that the amount you can worry is limitless. You don't flush anxiety out of your system that way - it spirals .

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:18

@Rosainryehead ok. I’m not sure if you’ve realised but since your arrival in this thread I’ve been kinda goading you a bit because you are clearly on the wrong thread. Also, you seem like you are quite humourless.
May I save the rest of your time and perhaps suggest.....moving on with your absolute knowledge? There must be more sanitiser you can buy?

Anyway, cancelling my holiday has been inconvenient and annoying. I’m sorry if that offends anyone but it’s true. Do I laugh at those susceptible to covid or those that have died? Of course not. Do I wish more people to get it? Am I licking people’s faces and coughing on them? Not recently. Do I believe that it’s shit? Yes absolutely.
Am I annoyed I can’t buy essentials because those not in the risk category have lost their marbles? Yes very much so. Do I think they need to calm down? Absolutely. Am I entitled, selfish and privileged for having a holiday? Not at all. Do I think you are a ridiculous human if you can’t understand my view point and instead jam meaning and words into what I don’t say? Yes.

Erm...I think I covered it for people going forward.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:19

@tobee I suffer with moderate anxiety and I’ve been desperately trying not to get sucked into the doom brigade because it’s easy to do. It’s mob mentality and perhaps exhausting is a more accurate description than boring.

OP posts:
idontlike789 · 14/03/2020 17:19

@Rosainryehead the elderly and vulnerable are more at risk of getting it severely and possibly death .

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:20

@Nanalisa60 I saw this yesterday. It’s brilliant 😂

EggysMom · 14/03/2020 17:20

Thanks for the warning about flip out (trampoline) customers staring if you sneeze. My son has a very runny nose at the moment, a standard winter cold; and I'm planning on taking him there tomorrow. I shall start practising my hard stare now Grin Seriously though, sneezes and runny noses are NOT symptoms of CV-19, it would be helpful if the public could remember that. But it would also be helpful if they didn't stockpile Branston Pickle, or indeed, eggs ... eggs have a short shelf life, why stockpile those? And biscuits!

Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:20

Don't have any hand sanitizer. It isn't going to do much good!

Dongdingdong · 14/03/2020 17:22

Um, the WHO, the scientists and our own prime minister have said so?

The chief medical officer also said that 65,000 could die in the UK of swine flu back in 2009. Actual number of deaths: 457. Nobody knows for sure, so stop presenting speculation as if it were fact.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:22

@EggysMom honestly, be prepared!! If this was the dark ages they’d be carting any sneezers off by now.
😂
No branston pickle but loads of cheese. What are these weirdos putting on crackers?!?!?!!

OP posts:
Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:23

@Dongdingdong this all day

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 17:24

It’s just the flat part of a huge curve. So you’ve got a while yet.

tobee · 14/03/2020 17:25

Hand sanitiser is recommended if you can't wash your hands. Not ideal. But better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

The Mumsnet reaction on this has been entirely predictable though. GrinBecause it's, to some extent, a microcosm of modern society. People trying to cope in their own way.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:26

Seriously, what is the pineapple?!? I’ve just seen it on another thread and it’s clearly more important than covid. In fact, the pineapple is now inconveniencing me. Please help.

OP posts:
EggysMom · 14/03/2020 17:26

@Starbuck8419 Maybe they are having plain pasta with scrambled egg and pickle. And if they are, no wonder they need so much toilet paper.

tobee · 14/03/2020 17:27

op sympathies with your anxiety. Thanks

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:28

@EggysMom you’d need a hazmat for that

@tobee 😘

OP posts:
jinxpixie · 14/03/2020 17:30

Branston Pickle has been recalled due to plastic being found in it so not panic buying

link here

tobee · 14/03/2020 17:30

Biscuitdo you mean this op? Unless you're having a lol about it being a pineapple, it's the famous Mumsnet biscuit emoji. And posters using it saying you are beyond contempt, I tell ya!

Now you've made me want to eat both cheese and pineapple not on a stick though thanks
