Am I the only one who finds the Coronovirus inconvenient more than anything?

My husband, daughter and I are all fit and healthy and had Disney booked for Easter. Now it’s looking like we can’t go which for us personally, is a total bugger. I can’t even get through on the lines to cancel and get my money back and have to leave it a week because the lines are jammed.

I went to the supermarket on Thursday and today to get hand wash and some other bits. The first was totally sold out of soap and pasta. The second...:it was like the apocalypse. No canned food.....no bread...the idea of hand wash, soap or shower gel was a joke and all the branston pickle was gone. Branston fucking pickle?!?!?

I over heard a lady saying she can’t get nappies for her kids because they are all gone.

Some kid sneezed at a flip out /trampoline place today and I swear I thought some of the parents were going to shoot him where he stood. The rate they were going on you’d think he’d been licking the hand rails or something.

If you turn the news on, all you hear is about covid (as if nothing else is happening in the world) and it’s so dramatic. Have you seen the screen the bbc put up with covid plastered across it? It’s highly inflammatory and not even slightly reassuring.

Before people lay into me about being selfish I totally get why SOME portions of the community are worried. I get it because my father and father in law are elderly and both suffer with serious health issues and presumably you and they would implement the measures they can but normal people in a similar situation to me have lost their fucking minds!!!!

I said this yesterday but people do realise that in order to stop this from spreading, everyone needs to be able to access some form of soap. What good is it doing if you are wading into your bathroom, knee deep in it all when the rest of the world hasn’t got any 🙄

I am so sorry to hear that your trip to Disney land is in jeopardy. Must be v upsetting for you.
My major worry ? Two children with severe disabilities and complex needs . Both vulnerable from normal illnesses one especially so . My main concern is keeping them sufficiently isolated to prevent them picking this up as the results would be catastrophic . Though I do as it happens have toilet rolls at present so that is alright then !
Fancy swapping ?

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 16:58

A few people seem to be adding words to what I’ve written. Don’t do that. You look ridiculous.

OP posts:
SnoozyLou · 14/03/2020 16:58

This has got to be a wind up.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 16:59

@flapjackfairy no. I really don’t.
But there was a part where I wrote I understood about people who genuinely have a concern. Obviously my thoughts weren’t aimed at you but in my family unit, I do find the entire thing really inconvenient.

OP posts:
Purplewhitelie · 14/03/2020 16:59

It must be a wind up Biscuit

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:00

@SnoozyLou no more of a wind up then idiots bulk buying when they don’t need too but we will keep the 8,000th “worried about covid” threads going 🙄

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:00

What is this pineapple? I keep seeing it and no one will tell me. Looks delicious.

Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:01

I’m inconvenienced and bummed out by it.

But not by the threat of a global pandemic wiping out you or your loved ones?

Purplewhitelie · 14/03/2020 17:02

It’s like the lottery says. It could be you.

MissPepper8 · 14/03/2020 17:03

I'm getting really annoyed, practically 9 months pregnant, family members keep ringing me to tell me maternity wards won't be allowing visitors, I shouldn't have visitors, they won't be able to help us (I have a toddler and family members who work in NHS are not yet on coronavirus wards).

Im more worried about giving birth right now than catching it. Wish people would chill out, everyone's very highly strung about it and there's no cases near us currently.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:03

It’s not at that stage yet. When it starts getting to the stage my family is going to be wiped out by catching it then I’d probably knock Disney down to just under the welfare of my family you know. But until then....my holiday being cancelled when the three of us are fit and well, the inability to buy basics and generally not being able to get away from mass hysteria is irritatingly inconvenient.

OP posts:
Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:04

@Purplewhitelie it could well be but then I’d rather be riding tea cups you know

OP posts:
TheTrollFairy · 14/03/2020 17:04

I am freaking out and I’m annoyed at myself for it. My whole body is in a state of panic, I’m nervous and not concentrating on anything other than an update on the ducking news.

I’m annoyed that people are panic buying also. When, and I think we will, close down and all have to isolate then supermarkets will be open. I guess there will be a process like they had in China and I guess they have in Italy at the moment.
My local foodbank is down to its last 25% of supplies for people. I’m going out tomorrow to do a whole shop of tins, pasta, milk, rice, toilet roll etc purely to get some supplies to my local foodbank

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/03/2020 17:04

It must be lovely to be privileged enough to find it "inconvenient more than anything".

Oh, and also selfish enough.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:05

@MissPepper8 see, you are more rational than me so I take my hat off to you. If I was 9 months pregnant I’d be scared of both! Good luck to you!!

OP posts:
Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:06

there's no cases near us currently.

You mean recorded cases. There will be cases near you.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:06

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross
Yes, me wanting essentials in the shop is absolutely selfish and I’m not privileged. I worked hard for my holibobs.
But I am white if that helps with that generalisation?

OP posts:
Dongdingdong · 14/03/2020 17:06

The people panicking and bulk buying are making this whole thing worse

Amen. Selfish buggers the lot of them - if everyone just continued shopping as normal there would be more than enough for everyone.

And it will be like this for months so we all need to suck it up and get used to it.

@Rosainryehead and you know this how? Please, stop with the scaremongering.

Widget123 · 14/03/2020 17:07

I’ve had to cancel our main holiday and another shorter trip because of this and although it’s a shame I’m far more concerned about my parents and the millions of other people who are utterly terrified right now. I can just rebook the holiday once this is over so it’s not that big a deal.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:07

@TheTrollFairy the thing is, sensible, sane, rational people have to get involved with panic buying to a degree because all the deranged idiots have already got it all.
God help us if covid has a mortality rate of Ebola 🙄

OP posts:
idontlike789 · 14/03/2020 17:07

But not by the threat of a global pandemic wiping out you or your loved ones?
It's not wiping us out is it 22 people out of 60 million .
It's the elderly and vulnerable that are at risk , if starvation doesn't kill them first with all these idiots panic buying.
We are all worried but does not mean we think we are going to be wiped out and doesn't mean we can't be annoyed with people panic buying and holidays cancelled .

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:08

@Widget123 of course. I agree with you but it’s still inconvenient and frustrating.

OP posts:
Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:09

It's the elderly and vulnerable that are at risk

Ok well it isn't, for a start. They might be more at risk, but we are all at risk.

Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:10

and you know this how? Please, stop with the scaremongering

Um, the WHO, the scientists and our own prime minister have said so? Confused

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 17:10

We are all at risk of getting covid obviously but the facts and figures speak for themselves I’m afraid.
I think you need to tighten your tinfoil hat and perhaps this thread isn’t for you?
