Am I the only one who finds the Coronovirus inconvenient more than anything?

My husband, daughter and I are all fit and healthy and had Disney booked for Easter. Now it’s looking like we can’t go which for us personally, is a total bugger. I can’t even get through on the lines to cancel and get my money back and have to leave it a week because the lines are jammed.

I went to the supermarket on Thursday and today to get hand wash and some other bits. The first was totally sold out of soap and pasta. The second...:it was like the apocalypse. No canned food.....no bread...the idea of hand wash, soap or shower gel was a joke and all the branston pickle was gone. Branston fucking pickle?!?!?

I over heard a lady saying she can’t get nappies for her kids because they are all gone.

Some kid sneezed at a flip out /trampoline place today and I swear I thought some of the parents were going to shoot him where he stood. The rate they were going on you’d think he’d been licking the hand rails or something.

If you turn the news on, all you hear is about covid (as if nothing else is happening in the world) and it’s so dramatic. Have you seen the screen the bbc put up with covid plastered across it? It’s highly inflammatory and not even slightly reassuring.

Before people lay into me about being selfish I totally get why SOME portions of the community are worried. I get it because my father and father in law are elderly and both suffer with serious health issues and presumably you and they would implement the measures they can but normal people in a similar situation to me have lost their fucking minds!!!!

I said this yesterday but people do realise that in order to stop this from spreading, everyone needs to be able to access some form of soap. What good is it doing if you are wading into your bathroom, knee deep in it all when the rest of the world hasn’t got any 🙄

Ohhhh it’s a fucking biscuit!!!!! I thought it was a pineapple ring 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Thank you for clarifying!!!!!
Hahaha it’s made me properly laugh now. What a cock I am and clearly in need of specsavers.

Haha yeah me too. Bring me a pineapple/cheese hedgehog please.

@jinxpixie oooooh ok wasn’t aware of that either. Explains why all the Sainsbury’s own was still there. I thought it was panic buying snobbery 😂

The facts and figures speak for themselves, we are just blinded to do basic maths. We are 60 million, it was said in Boris conference that 60 or 80% of the country would get infected, so let’s say 60% get infected because I’m an optimist, that’s 36 million and of those 1-6% die, I will calculate with 1% because I believe in fairies, that is at least 360,000 people but it could be up to 2,880,000 if we go for the worst case scenario. If we average the best and worst case scenarios we still have a 1,620,000 of deaths, who’s is more upsetting than having to cancel a bloody trip to Disneyland.

Inkpaperstars · 14/03/2020 17:35

How would you prefer this to play out OP?

I think complaining about cancelling holidays is pathetic when people are dying. Complain about the hassle of rearranging etc but not about the safety of cancelling. The panic buying is pissing me off so fucking much. I haven’t over bought anything and now that I’m running out and need to buy to use and not to hoard it somewhere, I can’t get it anywhere. And I have a kid with a suppressed immune system and she is on lockdown. Orders from her experts.

Lucindainthesky · 14/03/2020 17:38

I can't believe you were still contemplating going to Disney at easter tbh.

EricaNernie · 14/03/2020 17:39

it is not just uk,
we are in a panic
that is what happens

FusionChefGeoff · 14/03/2020 17:40

Why do people think that it's going to be so so so so much worse here than it has been in China? They are nearly at the end and have had 3,000 deaths in a population of 14 billion (number is so big I'm not even sure if that's right?? Blush)

How does it sound reasonable that little old UK suddenly starts racking up millions of corpses??

Rosainryehead · 14/03/2020 17:41

Why do people think that it's going to be so so so so much worse here than it has been in China

Maybe because China has been in enforced lockdown for weeks and yet Boris won't even consider closing schools here? Is that really not obvious?

Mordred · 14/03/2020 17:42

@Starbuck8419

Have you ANY idea at all what's going on in Italy? People in their 20s needing respirators. Hospitals setting up marquees and tents outside A&E departments, so they can triage them there before deciding who gets in; who they can save and who can't be helped?

See this, shared by a friend in Milan a few days ago:

files.catbox.moe/3ns6c1.mp4fbclid=IwAR0I9xJ0vbLmDDhlH5L4jhyQb2je-fHTZCY6pknnUH3J90q5kh8qspUwMqQ

It IS going to happen here. There is no doubt about it. What will you do then?

dementedma · 14/03/2020 17:43

Luckily no real panic buying here. No hand gel but everything else ok. Went into a cafe at the beach today and we were the only people in there. I fear for small local businesses

MissPepper8 · 14/03/2020 17:43

You mean recorded cases. There will be cases near you

Then oh well, I hope that we don't catch it and baby is home in time soon, but there's literally nothing I can do, any of us can do but wash hands and stay home if unwell.

Worrying is going to cause more stress in the long run.

Jaxhog · 14/03/2020 17:43

It's because too many people are not taking it seriously that it will get deadly quickly for those of us at most risk.

I can't believe this 'I'm alright Jack' attitude. I agree that we should panic, but this is SERIOUS!!

Jaxhog · 14/03/2020 17:44

ARG_ should NOT Panic!!

dingit · 14/03/2020 17:44

At the moment I know more people that have had to cancel holidays ( us included) than have the virus. Let's hope that doesn't change.

Mordred · 14/03/2020 17:47

@FusionChefGeoff "in a population of 14 billion (number is so big I'm not even sure if that's right?? blush)"

The population of the entire planet is around 7 billion :-)

Mulhollandmagoo · 14/03/2020 17:49

You're not being unreasonable no!!! I had to go to Asda, Tesco and Morrisons today all just to scrape together a weekly shop because of all the panic buying, I have an 8mo and the baby wipe/nappy/formula aisle was ransacked at all of them (my FIL was able to source me some from the supermarket in the next town) I don't want to be a panic buyer, but if this continues I feel like my hand will be forced, as having nappies is something I need every single day regardless of whether we go into lockdown/quarantine or not

Ozziewozzie · 14/03/2020 17:49

The point is OP, it may seem boring to you, and it may well be getting in the way of a holiday for you and your child but it’s sctualky killing people or rendering people critically ill. It’s also putting a massive, genuine strain on the health services.
Think of this, your child becomes seriously ill or has an accident in your holiday and the health service there can’t accommodate her properly because they are over run with people in critical conditions with Corina virus. Will you think , ‘oh well never mind, such a fuss about nothing ( for your dc) or will you be desperate to have your child cared for properly as you feel fit.
People have been slagging off waiting for basic appointments or minor surgeries under the NHS before all this, and the NHS is already abused by so many people.
I’m really sorry all this is rather boring and frustrating to you. Sadly as with most things, until you personally become effected ie as in lose a loved one, the penny won’t drop. It’s irrelevant whether you become effected or not. The point is millions in our world will be. Even now, food banks are empty practically and so at the very least, many in desperate need to feed themselves can’t. We are all humans, and this is effecting all of us, but I promise you, even if you never contract this illness or a member of your family, someone in someone else’s family will. For the sake of missing one holiday.....is it really that much of a hardship?

idontlike789 · 14/03/2020 17:52

You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.
I think those that have cleared the shelves of essentials should be more ashamed of themselves.
Why ashamed ? Because she refuses to work herself into a frenzy unlike so many people on here . As it was pointed out on here don't bother with a thread if it annoys you so much .

Jenasaurus · 14/03/2020 17:52

in light of the supermarkets and panic buying maybe the government need to issue rationing coupons based on the number of people in the household to ensure everyone can get the basics

MimiLaRue · 14/03/2020 17:55

I completely agree with you OP.

The stupid thing is- those people panic buying didnt need to bloody do that- there was plenty enough for everyone if they had just stuck to their normal amount of loo roll as per usual.
The selfish behaviour of others in a crisis is really rather concerning and at the moment, that worries me more than CV.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 14/03/2020 17:56

@floppybit iceland have some :)

Helmetbymidnight · 14/03/2020 17:59

panic buying is ridiculous but op you're coming across awfully.

this isnt just inconvenient- its huge- you might as well imagine there is going to be no health service for the next few months. it will be utterly on its knees. now do you get it?
