Boris is trying to kill off the old and infirm

CoronLona · 13/03/2020 21:53

"you will loose loved ones". Get over it. We are not taking any action to stop it. The old and vulnerable will die. 80% of us will catch coronavirus.

I do not like these messages. It's like he doesn't care about the elderly or vulnerable at all.

Is he trying to kill them off to make some savings in the NHS? It certainly feels like it.

AIBU to make this assumption?

I am a labour voter. You are utterly clueless and posts like this make me so angry.

This is a new virus that none of us are immune to. Whether labour, Tories or unicorns are in power the infection rate will be the same. It has to be slowed at the right time to ensure that those who need inpatient care are in the best position to receive it. We also need to start building herd immunity which can only be achieved by people getting the virus.

When it really starts to escalate, that's the time people need to stay home. Not now. If you force people to stay home now they'll start getting bored after a week and start socialising just as things start getting bad.

This isn't about preventing people getting it (because remember that's impossible as none of us are immune). It's about spreading the infection rate over a longer period to lessen the burden on the health service.

Please do some research.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 13/03/2020 22:14

Behave yourself.

Nobody wants this to happen, which is why EVERYBODY has to take some personal responsibility for trying to manage this crisis.

And yes, they include many of his core voters.

MaomiMak · 13/03/2020 22:15

Italy has taken the precaution that the UK won't.

Still 1000 have died since 22 Feb mostly old and infirm

Your point being?

Joyfulljenny · 13/03/2020 22:16

OP I’m worried to death about my grandmother who’s already fought of pneumonia twice in the last six months and my friend who has severe asthma.

Boris speech left me pissed off.

We’re 14 days behind Italy. We should be locking every thing down now instead of business as usual

CoronLona · 13/03/2020 22:19

Joyfulljenny - exactly. I am pretty terrified for someone very close to me. If she catches coronavirus she WILL die. She's been through so much recently and survived against all odds. I would hate for this bloody virus to be the thing to kill her. I just feel like we are expected to accept it. I can't.

SciFiRules · 13/03/2020 22:19

I detest Boris but what do you want gov to do?

LastTrainEast · 13/03/2020 22:19

CoronLona You might want to check out the flat earther types on Youtube as they are saying 5G cell towers are broadcasting the virus at the orders of Boris and the evil secret world government :)

Waitingforadulthood · 13/03/2020 22:20

I agree op. All misters asking what he's meant to do? Maybe follow who guidelines? Like the rest of Europe? He's putting money before humanity. And sadly, no shock there. I'm not paranoid or stupid or cutie signalling. I'm "telling the truth" much like his followers claim he is.

jasjas1973 · 13/03/2020 22:20

YANBU
Since when has any tory given a flying fuck for the sick or poor?

At their inception, they've opposed every single aspect of the welfare state over the last 75 years and when in power, have tried to run it down from education to health to social care... FFS Mogg said food banks were an inspiring thing!!! look what Duncan Smith has done? or the cuts to women's refuges.

Johnson said he'd sort adult social care.........

CoronLona · 13/03/2020 22:23

Yeah yeah lastrain! I get your point. Its just there is a part of me that thinks he really doesn't seem to care about the elderly or vulnerable, and perhaps he's not too bothered about their fate as long as we all keep working, the country keeps going, business keeps ticking over etc.. I do no want to loose my loved one. I really really don't. She is just a number to Boris though.

OP posts:
Stuckforthefourthtime · 13/03/2020 22:23

Well he'd be killing off a huge amount of his voters so I'd say not. And I loathe Boris and all things Tory

Similarly, dislike Boris and think more should be done, but also think that all the people on MN screaming for a total lockdown are often in a privileged enough position to forget that recessions kill people and destroy lives too, and it's not a simple decision to balance the economy and sustaining jobs and livelihoods in the long term vs the needs of the vulnerable right now. I think there's more we can and should do, but he's an arse, not a murderer.

jasjas1973 · 13/03/2020 22:27

We also need to start building herd immunity which can only be achieved by people getting the virus

Load of bollox, if herd immunity for viral infections worked, other viral illnesses that have swept the world unhindered now wouldn't exist..... only way to get herd immunity is through vaccination, thats how we countered measles etc before that, like flu, these illnesses carried on over the centuries, killing and maiming with impunity.

Stop swallowing this tory bullshit.

LuckyAmy1986 · 13/03/2020 22:28

@CoronLona

A lot of people will be in the same situation with regards to a loved one who will or might die. It’s very sad but it doesn’t change facts.

What would you like to happen ideally?

Sittinonthefloor · 13/03/2020 22:29

OP - it’s very frightening and seems very unreal but this is a horrible virus that not one of the billions of people on the planet has immunity to. What Boris says or does won’t really change much. It’s natural to want to be angry and blame someone but I don’t really think you can accuse Johnson of trying to kill people. It’s very clear they are being lead by the scientists and, cripes, who’d want to be in charge of this: I though he looked awful yesterday and about 20 years older, can you imagine having to spell out to the country how grim this all is? It’s not a moment for populism imo or for partisan them and us attitudes. This is all of us.

StandUpStraight · 13/03/2020 22:33

God I am so sick of posts like these. Your OP is frankly ridiculous and childish. Nobody likes to be told people will die, but they will and it would be dishonest for the government to try to pretend otherwise. And everybody in the world fears for themselves and their elderly or unwell relatives and friends. As for subsequent bleatings about wanting them to “do” something, what exactly would you like them to “do”? Trump and others are making big populist gestures not backed up by science. Boris is listening to the experts and deploying the resources we have according to the likely trajectory of the infection rate. It’s a hugely difficult thing to judge and a difficult decision to make, and they’re doing their best. Labour are meanwhile sitting around engaging in a pointless culture war. But everybody is a bloody virologist these days..

Joyfulljenny · 13/03/2020 22:34

detest Boris but what do you want gov to do?

Errrr - I dunno... maybe follow what other countries have had to do after so many deaths??

Over half a million deaths expected before august and your asking what the government can do Confused

Binterested · 13/03/2020 22:36

I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t have a vulnerable person in their family. We are all in the same boat. Your post is ridiculous and unhelpful.

No the prime minister doesn’t want people to die. What a stupid fucking thing to say. People will die. But this is what we are all facing. He’s being led by the experts. Who also don’t want people to die but recognise that many will. Please don’t poison the well by attributing base and even murderous motives to people working incredibly hard in an awful situation.

Yes they might be wrong. But you sure as hell don’t have access to better expertise than the government does - although you might think you do because of what you’ve read on social media - and your post suggests your judgement is significantly worse.

Joyfulljenny · 13/03/2020 22:37

Corona people in this thread dont care. I wonder if they will care if they have to send by their elderly relative whilst they pass away on a hospital bed in a hospital corridor because they are no beds.

But y’know - every ones got to die some time Confused

FarTooSkinny · 13/03/2020 22:39

I want more done

So what exactly do you want to be done then? Lockdown may have contained things in China for the moment - but what happens when people start mixing again? We are in totally uncharted territory. However the likes of the OP seem to think they know more than the experts advising the government

Snowflakes1122 · 13/03/2020 22:39

Also, what about those with underlying health issues of working age, and the kids at school with health issues? It’s just like all
Three of these groups are just expected to get really ill or die?! No plans in place to allow parents to take them out of school or to help those of working age financially with the risks to them.

tryingtoprep · 13/03/2020 22:40

What would we like him to do? The same as other European countries, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi, Gulf States, and all the other countries worldwide. Taking protective action. Mandatory wfh for all jobs that can, schools closed, large gatherings banned. You don't wait until it gets worse. You act to prevent it getting that bad in the first place. As @jasjas1973 says herd immunity won't necessarily work. We don't yet know if it can reinfect people, it might mutate. Far better to try to avoid in the first place, or at least slow down the spread so that the NHS can cope. Boris isn't actively trying to kill people but he's doing sod all to stop it.

bluehighlighter · 13/03/2020 22:41

It would be very interesting to be inside Cummings' mind right now. I'm sure that the "advantages" of the situation haven't passed him by.

BiologyIsReal · 13/03/2020 22:41

FFS he's telling the truth for once. At 76, I am in the elderly group and I am not at all horrified by the truth.

I may get it and if I do I may die. That's just how it is.

Mind you BJ wanted to be PM so desperately, he must now be thinking, be careful what you wish for.....I don't envy him, whatever he does half the population will be screaming at him.

Ylvamoon · 13/03/2020 22:42

Boris is right though isn't he? Spelling out the inevitable is not popular but the last thing he is doing is misleading the public.
In fact, he is giving some responsibility to the individual. Limit travel, self isolate, be vigilant - time to go into self preservation mode.

Busymum45 · 13/03/2020 22:42

The most ridiculous thing I have ever read.
