Boris is trying to kill off the old and infirm

"you will loose loved ones". Get over it. We are not taking any action to stop it. The old and vulnerable will die. 80% of us will catch coronavirus.

I do not like these messages. It's like he doesn't care about the elderly or vulnerable at all.

Is he trying to kill them off to make some savings in the NHS? It certainly feels like it.

AIBU to make this assumption?

We need to shut down the schools right now. And we need to self isolate.

Expect the NHS staff, and their childcare.... oh and their childcare... oh and the Police, oh and the fire service, oh and the carers, oh and the front line utility company staff, oh and the farmers, oh and the Tesco delivery staff, oh and the warehouse workers. Yes everyone but stay at home parents and admin staff... the rest of you need to facilitate our life...

People can’t be trusted not to buy a years worth of toilet roll. Or lose their mind on 2 back to back snow days...

If you spunk your load of self isolation too early it will just back fire...

But it worked in China...

Yes where they have state run news, internet and you can disappear at a click of a finger....

Limpshade · 14/03/2020 00:31

This again Hmm

Believing people will die is not the same as wanting them to die. HTH.

calpolatdawn · 14/03/2020 00:37

i literally just said this on another thread, a virus wiping out the poor and vulnerable is the best social cleansing tool going, its every tories wet dream sadly. theyve spent 10 yrs actively dismantling the nhs, welfare state, they aren't going to help anyone now.

noraclavicle · 14/03/2020 00:43

For God’s sake, stop this! These insane threads pop up late at night when MN moderation is less active. What exactly is this supposed to achieve?

noraclavicle · 14/03/2020 00:44

We're moving this to the dedicated Coronavirus topic now.

Why in God’s name are you even keeping it up?

ViciousJackdaw · 14/03/2020 00:45

I'm usually happy to blame Bozza for anything but for crying out loud, not this! For starters, he was only really acting as a conduit for the advice given by the chief officers. And yes, people WILL die, just as they have done in most other countries - this is hardly news. We knew this already.

Rather than catastrophising, how about people simply act with care and consideration for others. Scaremongering does nobody any favours. Panic buying just means that other people have to keep going back out. Demanding total closures now could cause economic collapse. We can get through this but only if people stay reasonable.

Furries · 14/03/2020 00:46

REPORTED! The majority on here - seriously, I have no words. To the few that have tried to talk some sense - thank you. I am literally starting to despair at the mindset of people today.

noraclavicle · 14/03/2020 00:50

Furries ditto

Summer2003 · 14/03/2020 00:59

Anyone read the comments by a guardian journalist? Saying "CV 19 has silver linings as it culls the elderly & relieves pressure on social care!" Mix that with Dominic Cummings views on eugenics, I'm scared!......

ViciousJackdaw · 14/03/2020 01:03

Anyone read the comments by a guardian journalist?

I haven't, no. Do you have a link please?

Furries · 14/03/2020 01:07

@noraclavicle - tbh, this is probably one time I’m grateful for insomnia - finding stuff like this and reporting at least makes a good use of my time. Yes, I’m worried. Yes, this is a totally new situation that none of us have been through before. But some (a lot) of the stuff I’ve seen posted on this topic is, quite frankly, almost more worrying. I am NOT downplaying the severity of the situation, but this kind of stuff is just vile.

Summer2003 · 14/03/2020 01:18

@ViciousJackdaw

Here it is!.......
metro.co.uk/2020/03/11/telegraph-journalist-says-coronavirus-cull-elderly-benefit-economy-12383907/

Summer2003 · 14/03/2020 01:22

@ViciousJackdaw opps! Telegraph not Guardian!....
But you won't hear it reported oon the BBC!

'COVID-19 might even prove mildly beneficial in the long term by disproportionately culling elderly dependents.’

UnholyStramash · 14/03/2020 01:41

OP, it’s even more upsetting to hear when you know he’s talking about you. I also felt upset seeing your heading. I’m not old but I’m asthmatic and immunocompromised. I could be in real trouble if I catch the virus. I have 2 disabled children - who aren’t at risk - but who’ll help them if we both die? Their father is also at risk.

We’re more or less shut down already - I’m at home most of the time, out for walks and medical things. DH is going to the supermarket when necessary, trying to go at quiet times. Wiping his hands and unpacking the shopping carefully when home. I have a hospital appointment next week- if it’s not cancelled, I’ll have to go by bus. 2 there, one back. I’ll hang about in town - library probably (it’s quiet on evenings) - so the bus is quieter coming back we are doing our utmost to avoid this virus. I didn’t find the PM’s words helpful. Very little that he says is helpful. I’m lucky I’m on the employment scrap heap so I don’t have to worry about work. Lots of people my age with chronic illness are in paid employment and using buses and trains. Some of them must be terribly worried. Very many people are working into their late 60s and beyond. It must be worrying for them too.

It would’ve been better if the PM and his government had arranged for people at risk to stop work, to minimise risk from travel and office environment, and still be paid.

UnholyStramash · 14/03/2020 01:42

Bad editing- I see I’ve a few words. Sorry. Time for bed!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/03/2020 01:49

There is thread after thread started either by the same few posters or by namechangers/new posters. They are whipping up panic and spreading half truths or emotions blackmail or praising the Chinese government.

The obvious question would be who does this serve.

ButterflyRuns · 14/03/2020 01:56

Just following the example of the other shitshow governments of the last 10 years in ignoring the most vulnerable in society, is anyone actually surprised?

sam221 · 14/03/2020 02:01

I do actually genuinely believe that this government would be extremely happy killing off the poor and weak.
Not so long ago they hired a guy who firmly believed in eugenics, because social media users picked it and it created negative publicity did the person resign.
All other governments across the world are taking measures to help their population, by placing restrictions and closing schools.
Even this evening i was watching the Trump press conference and even he is doing a better job. I went to rallies against the guy!
So I do think Tory voters should be ashamed of their special guy in 'charge'!

Furries · 14/03/2020 02:02

@butterlyruns - ffs, everyone is vulnerable. This is not some flipping government master plan. We are ALL worried, we are ALL vulnerable, but we need to keep a sense of perspective.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 14/03/2020 02:15

Right now I’m not worried about the Coronavirus, I’m more worried that we have people in the UK who think like this. I’m not a big fan of the conservative government or Boris but in this case he’s following scientific advice. People on here are posting hysterical threads and Mumsnet needs to contain them. This is getting silly! No one is out to kill off your family members, no one wants this virus, it isn’t benefitting anyone, especially the government.

Not only lives but jobs are being lost due to this, all this talk of the government benefiting from killing off old people is ridiculous. BA are looking at needing help to stop them going under and many other businesses will need government aid. If they do fail benefits will be higher than pension payments.

Each post like this just adds to the mass hysteria level

1forAll74 · 14/03/2020 02:19

I don't wish to be killed off yet, I am 77,and haven't properly sorted my funeral plan out yet. Worrying about this now, and had to worry about my young years,in case our house got bombed out in the war, and killed all the family.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 14/03/2020 02:22

What war are you referring to @1forall74?

Defenbaker · 14/03/2020 02:31

Error in my first reply - it should say YABU. Anyway, I'm glad that the majority of people posting on this thread seem to agree with me that although Bojo is not perfect, accusing him of mass murder is taking conspiracy theories way too far. David Icke is probably having a field day right now, but for everyone else, I think threads like this just add to people's anxiety.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 14/03/2020 02:37

I ask @1forAll74 because the last was in 1945 and you would have been 2?

Whowantstogotothepark · 14/03/2020 02:42

The facts are:
The UK is going against the actions of nearly all developed countries and the advice of the WHO
The UK is reducing testing to only hospital cases (ie the very sick).
The UK has very limited statutory pay for low-paid workers and despite a "coronavirus" budget no prevision was made for zero-hours or part-time workers.
Many carehome staff are zero-hours, part-time and/or low paid.
The UK is aiming for herd immunity (with zero evidence that can be achieved).
The UK is aiming for approximately 65 percent infection.
The mortality rate is at least 1 percent.

This will kill hundreds of thousands. Mostly older. My view is that the government is prepared for the hit on the older population rather than the economic hit as a result of a double tank on the economy from coronavirus and brexit. It has a stark choice. It seems to have made its choice looking at its actions.

And the numbers of posters claiming they will be understanding when elderly relatives die because Boris Johnson has done his best is staggering. MN gets pissed if someone parks in the wrong spot. But ignoring WHO pandemic advice is okay.

Look at the facts and draw your conclusions from that. Not because an OP is overly dramatic in your view.
