When do we think schools will shut and likely turn of closure.

I don’t like either Nicola Sturgeon or Boris Johnson but I thought NS got it right with her press conference outlying the finding is the meeting and the plan for the foreseeable future. I didn’t agree with the outcome but I was a lot more reassured by her speech than I was by the wally BJ who waffled on with no real clarification or plan.

Are the schools likely to close, how soon do we think this will happen and for how long...

Surely if school closure is imminent the more time you can give people to put childcare, change of work plans, etc in place the better...

Schools can close if they choose to. I’ve had an email from my union stating this 2 minutes ago

Aria20 · 16/03/2020 16:44

Our school had over 100 pupils off today with cough and/or temperature so they will all be off for the week as per current guidance, some teachers off too. So our school is closed tomo and wed for a precautionary deep clean and the children are all to use google classroom to access their lessons

Benjispruce · 16/03/2020 16:47

Only 4 off at our primary of 90.

Aria20 · 16/03/2020 17:32

Ours is a 2/3 form entry primary and following the latest boris announcement it looks like those and their families will now be off for 14 days so if more staff start coming down ill we'll have to shut anyway!

fedup21 · 16/03/2020 17:41

if more staff start coming down ill we'll have to shut anyway!

Presumably that’s his plan!

Shutting schools by stealth??

Leithwalk · 16/03/2020 20:53

69% - 80% attendance in the schools I have worked with today. Between one and 4 adults also absent per school

crazycatgal · 16/03/2020 20:55

8 off in my class today, similar around the school.

Littlebookwormiam · 16/03/2020 20:57

Only 2 missing from my DS1 (yr4) and no missing children from Ds2 (yr2) but DS1 said his teacher told his class today schools might close and that they'll have to do work at home 🤷‍♀️

itsgettingweird · 16/03/2020 21:06

Think they'll close special schools as from weekend looking at lastest re 12 weeks for vulnerable.

Have a feeling they will look spread the GCSEs out over a longer period with the contingency dates and perhaps will close schools to all pupils during that time except exam students?

No actual information behind the scenes that hasn't been published but this is my personal conclusion from information coming from government and dfe.

So given BJ's herd immunity tactic, this is my theory:

BJ will not close the schools yet because he wants our children who are carriers of the CV to get it in enough numbers to infect their families so we can all stay at home in our family isolation pods (our homes) under his strick instructions not to go near our elderly relatives.

Anyone who has underlying illnesses well... they will be the ones BJ spoke of when he said families will lose loved ones. He will close schools from 23rd March (2 weeks early as schools break for Easter on 03/04) allowing a full 28 days to build up this herd immunity and losing loved ones whilst protecting the elderly (whom are to remain out of the way for 3 to 4 months while herd immunity solidifies) resulting in the minimum loss of life in all countries the western hemisphere or maybe the whole world.

BJ be remembered as a maverick for all of history to come (after all, the planned loss of loved ones is nothing more than collateral damage).

IgnoranceIsStrength · 16/03/2020 21:13

We have confirmed case so students were told they could work from home if they wanted to. Only about 10% students turned up today and about 25% of staff called in sick/isolating. We may as well shut but have been told we can't. FE college

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 17/03/2020 00:32

Adipose thats scary and I think you're right.

I have a lot of health conditions. And a cough. We're now isolating for 12 weeks but Im so scared.

Leithwalk · 17/03/2020 19:45

Attendance still dropping. Schools only open for some year groups.

Some schools are struggling because of lack of cleaning staff - vital at this time - and are having to close because children are just not safe.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 17/03/2020 21:03

So you think the schools will close this week?? I work in a nursery and feeling quite anxious right now for myself and children 😑

CookieDoughKid · 17/03/2020 21:06

My school in Midlands has shut indefinitely for yes 7,8,9. Notification received this evening. Years 10+ can still go in. Large numbers of staff elected to wfh following yesterday's announcement.

fedup21 · 17/03/2020 21:08

I do think they will close. Probably from Monday.

Greenpop21 · 17/03/2020 21:16

Child sent to school today after being given Calpol(child told us later when it wore off and fever of 38+) Cheers parents! Good job!

Dickorydockwhatthe · 17/03/2020 21:32

Green that's awful but I am not surprised!! Everything seems to be closing down today and now I just feel even more anxious a out work especiallt with kids coughing and sneezing. I am even developing a nervous cough tight chest need to stop watching the news 😢

Lougle · 17/03/2020 22:05

DD1's school is only allowing KS3 in on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with KS4 in on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I've also had a call from DD1's transport (SS) to say that she won't have transport until after Easter as her escort has had to self-isolate.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/03/2020 22:08

One twin in my class off with a temp and a cough. Other twin in!

Greenpop21 · 17/03/2020 22:10

Hope the other twin was sent home!

Windy0urneckin · 17/03/2020 22:11

Harrow, Rugby, City of London Girls’, and Westminster all closed today.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/03/2020 22:16

No they were not!!!! THe HT deemed the new advice re all family home to kick in after Monday. No idea why.

Greenpop21 · 17/03/2020 22:17

I despair!

SpokeTooSoon · 18/03/2020 07:39

Westminster and CLSG will be closed because most pupils rely on the tube to get to school.

Harrow has a confirmed case I believe.
