When do we think schools will shut and likely turn of closure.

I don’t like either Nicola Sturgeon or Boris Johnson but I thought NS got it right with her press conference outlying the finding is the meeting and the plan for the foreseeable future. I didn’t agree with the outcome but I was a lot more reassured by her speech than I was by the wally BJ who waffled on with no real clarification or plan.

Are the schools likely to close, how soon do we think this will happen and for how long...

Surely if school closure is imminent the more time you can give people to put childcare, change of work plans, etc in place the better...

I don’t think they will now. If they go ahead with the plan for the elderly to isolate for 4 months. If they did that & it started in April that would bring us to the end of July & the start of the 6 weeks holiday in England & Wales. Like others on this thread I had thought they would extend the Easter break initially though.

neveradullmoment99 · 15/03/2020 11:31

In scotland the headline are schools are to close for 4 months.

neveradullmoment99 · 15/03/2020 11:31

They will close the school.

neveradullmoment99 · 15/03/2020 11:32

Just when.

Danglingmod · 15/03/2020 11:34

We don't break up for three more weeks.

We also couldn't have bigger classes in our school, unless in the Hall/Sports Hall/Drama Studio. All the classrooms are tiny and can barely fit 30 children in them.

reefedsail · 15/03/2020 13:50

Do you have a link for that @neveradullmoment99 ?

neveradullmoment99 · 15/03/2020 14:09

Yes. Let me find it.

Sorry if already posted couldn't see a link.

There still seems to be rumblings about next Friday in some areas.

Whoops found it now. Sorry

fedup21 · 15/03/2020 14:16

I wonder what that would look like in practice? How it would be staffed? What expectations would be.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/03/2020 14:29

Really don't know. Every school will be different.

Many hcp parents at my son's school, hardly any at mine, many parents are out of work. It's also SEN so our Pupils in a way would be better carrying on in school but we would be very likely to catch the bug when it comes in.

Also, what about at risk staff?

Very complex.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/03/2020 14:30

And if my children had a temp? I'd have to look after them. Unless Dh does. If I have a cough, which every cold becomes for me, I'd have to self isolate for a week. Very hard to manage.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/03/2020 14:31

I mean, it's hard to plan for and make sure you have enough staff.

C3line · 15/03/2020 14:32

Who will be the skeleton staff? The TAs paid a pittance who will have their own families and health to worry about?🤔

C3line · 15/03/2020 14:33

I have teens studying for exams. If they’re off I will be too.

fedup21 · 15/03/2020 14:33

who will have their own families and health to worry about?

Everyone has their own family and health to think about-it’s going to be tough.

Devlesko · 15/03/2020 14:36

My dd school has just closed, got email today.
it's for cleaning but doubt it will open again, as not state school.
Not sure of any other closures.

C3line · 15/03/2020 14:36

Well aware of thatHmm however the skeleton staff bit for children of key worker staff is worrying. Who are those staff going to be? Are people going to be forced in?

Everyexitisanentrance · 15/03/2020 14:37

Pointless shutting schools I don’t think Brits will follow rules we are all too selfish to do that as shown with panic buying in shops, going off to second homes in rural areas and just being out and about in general. We treat self isolation like a holiday so there is no point closing schools.

ceeveebee · 15/03/2020 16:05

An email has gone out today at our school to the most vulnerable children letting their parents make the decision whether they want to keep them home. Also says that school closures are only a matter of time.

Rosehip10 · 15/03/2020 16:06

Schools will not be allowed to close at their choice. Emergency powers will let central gov dictate this.

Selfsettling3 · 15/03/2020 18:41

Local authorities and individual schools haven’t got a clue. They are just doing what they always have to do and are second guessing the government decisions in an effort to be prepared.

FAQs · 16/03/2020 15:28

Letter from school - GCSE students have to be available up to and including 24th June to meet contingency dates.

Some schools are already closed.
