Piers Morgan right for once

Taking to Twitter, 54-year-old Piers said:
“Tonight (Wednesday evening), 1000s of Atletico Madrid fans are in Liverpool - despite their own city being in virtual lockdown, INCLUDING their own matches, because Madrid's been ravaged by Coronavirus.
This is total madness. What the hell is the British Government doing????"

I would only add this was at a time when the British government was already in possession of the facts as to the projected scale/impact of the virus on the UK. Absolutely treasonous and I do not use that word lightly.

The UK population is more than 66 million

For now👀

AnotherNightWatering · 13/03/2020 10:52

10,000 isn't very few people, but it is a very low percentage. More than 5,000 people have won a million or more on the lottery since 1994, but I don't know any of them.

Cam77 · 13/03/2020 10:53

@DoubleAction
We have no idea if they have coped. It's been enforceable because people who don't comply in China "disappear".
I have a couple of thousand contacts in China. All have been happy to comply. None have disappeared. 99% have coped just fine. The government in China, Singapore, the authorities in HK, and in South Korea acted strongly and in good time to contain. What I hear from the British government is nothing more than a load of - to use Johnson's favourite term piffle paffle and gibberish to excuse their inaction and dithering which will now have horrific consequences.

the less than 1% who were not fine contracted the virus - but only one one person I heard has died from it.

OK, there are no human rights issues and the people aren't controlled by the state using force in China at all. If you say so.

sauvignonblancplz · 13/03/2020 10:57

Haven’t rtt but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
My child could see the obvious flaw in allowing the players to come over...
Hardly rocket science.

sauvignonblancplz · 13/03/2020 10:58

& fans

AnotherNightWatering · 13/03/2020 10:58

Each government has its own strategy, and we will see at the end of the outbreak which worked best. I think our government's strategy is very clear, and science-led. It may turn out to be the wrong strategy - that remains to be seen. But I don't think it's inaction or dithering.

GarlicSoup · 13/03/2020 10:58

I think Piers Morgan often talks sense.

But the government is not trying to stop the virus, because it can't. So far, the numbers are small. Soon, schools may close and big meetings may stop. But at the moment, the government's decision is to allow the spread. That's the logical strategy, which may be different from our illogical feelings.

Jerseygaly · 13/03/2020 11:07

Hopefully it will bite both of them on the arse!!
They've been in contact with ND.
How do you get rid of a PM?

koshkatt · 13/03/2020 11:08

Piesr Morgan may be a bit of a boorish bully type but he is currently knocking it out of the park. Look at his recent interview with the woefully dense Lisa Nandy and his defence of women in sport.

Bloody brilliant.

koshkatt · 13/03/2020 11:08

Piers I mean...

AParallelUniverse · 13/03/2020 11:10

I am not sure about the stopped clock thing, American gun laws, Iraq, womans right to single sex sport. All piers morgan views I agree on

Me too.

DowntownAbby · 13/03/2020 11:14

Piers Morgan is an utterly vile arsehole.

As someone else said...stopped clock, twice a day, etc. Doesn't stop him being a complete tool.

And what, in the name of all that is holy, is this supposed to mean?

...he is currently knocking it out of the park

Sounds like euphemism for wanking in the bushes!

Confused
NeckPainChairSearch · 13/03/2020 11:15

I'm finding it very uncomfortable to be in a place where I can agree with both Piers Morgan and Jeremy Hunt on the same day

Yes. Strange times indeed.

AnotherNightWatering · 13/03/2020 11:18

Hmm, Jeremy Hunt PPE Oxford, or scientists who have studied this very topic...

dworky · 13/03/2020 11:18

Yes, he's right. Still an awful misogynist though.

There we go

oldwhyno · 13/03/2020 11:22

One good thing to come out of this is sheer number of new expert virologists and epidemiologists to have self ID'd on the internet.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 13/03/2020 11:23

Thanks Another. I thought herd immunity was more from immunisations, like say MMR.

Ta for clarify though.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 13/03/2020 11:25

old just don't mis-oligist them. Virtual violence, that.

Roselilly36 · 13/03/2020 11:25

I totally agree with Piers on this, government have been woefully inadequate on this.

koshkatt · 13/03/2020 11:26

Crikey. You must have led a rather sheltered existence not to have come across this very commmon phrase. I think it comes from baseball and means 'doing very well' if that helps you to understand?

koshkatt · 13/03/2020 11:27

Yes, he's right. Still an awful misogynist though

And yet he is one of the few men publicly standing up for women's sport not be invaded by men. Hmmm...
