The chief medical officer said 80% of the population are expected to be infected with 1% mortality so they are expecting around 480,000 to die. Although they stopped short of actually saying that number. Just in case anyone missed it. I’m a doctor and the doctors of Europe are screaming at us to shut the country down and BoJo just told us to stay home for a week and not go on a cruise.

Hi all, and apologies for the confusion. We've changed the thread title to 'Worst case scenario estimates'.
And it's worth mentioning that the OP of this thread has left the site.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2020 08:07

I'm not entirely surprised they've left the site after essentially being called a liar at worst or misleading at best by mnhq. Since when did you start editing titles because of a guessed opinion on your part? That was pretty outrageous tbh.

Agree with ohyoubadkitten

(And obviously the whole dr not dr bit)

AuntieStella · 13/03/2020 10:14

The original title was misleading, though. And fair comment to say scare-mongering

But that's about what the OP did (and haven't we all worded something badly from time to time?) Not what her whole character is like.

But 80,000 people have had it in China (if, of course we know the true figures). And they have a massive population, much much bigger than ours.

China locked itself down very early on. We are not doing that.

@OhYouBadBadKitten did you see the original title? (This one is the third, as the second one, referring to the US, was also misleading)

The original was written in a horribly scaremongering style, as well as being inaccurate. The OP claimed to be a doctor, but it seemed highly unlikely that she was. Her OP has also been edited to get rid of some of the scaremongering I think. I'm pretty sure it was a lot longer last night.
