@Bearbehind surely there is no logic to the spread because they refused to test people who hadn’t been to the affected geographical locations and we don’t have the data to see the pattern?

middleager · 13/03/2020 08:51

Just catching up with last night's Question Time. Prof John Ashton is really going for it.
Thank you John for asking the questions that need addressing.

Lelivre · 13/03/2020 08:52

I have just found these threads. Is there data on the % death by age group?

I feel we are at risk with young children at school and also DH working in primary care and would like to give thought to contact with those in our life who are elderly or at risk.

Fannia · 13/03/2020 08:53

I do understand Sunshinegirls point which I think was that if you can actually catch the virus and still not be immune, how will a vaccine work?

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/03/2020 08:54

There is no such evidence yet is there?

Then why are you so behind the unchecked spread? I thought you knew that government is doing the right thing. if there is no evidence then why is our government so right.

I can go into self isolation I would also lose my job and income, but it can be done. My DH cannot. I am buggared whichever way.

But on the bright side I am insured up to the eyeballs so DH and DC will be ok.
I do need my income though whilst I'm alive as the insurance fees are so high.

squid4 · 13/03/2020 08:54

WHO makes strong statement. Bear rejects it.

Conclusion: I am arrogant.

GalOopNorth · 13/03/2020 08:55

People will soon understand what is going on when hundreds of thousands are dead I the U.K. when other countries have under a thousand dead.

Then it will be too late.

We’re not a fucking experiment.

We should be doing what the WHO say works.

SubjectMatterExpert · 13/03/2020 08:55

@Sunshinegirl82 part of development will be establishing IF people can catch it multiple times and WHY; is it because it mutates or because anitibodies aren’t retained for example.
Development will involve isolating the antigen, isolating antibodies

And lots of other processes

The clue is in the name.... DEVELOPING a vaccine. Not MANUFACTURING a vaccine

IrisAtwood · 13/03/2020 08:55

@Purplewhitelie @Wehttam

The suggestion is that the cases were tests become negative and then become positive again are due to fluctuations in viral load, not to reinfection or the illness disappearing and then returning.

Scbchl · 13/03/2020 08:55

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress the article I read said she was tested as positive after her death.

GalOopNorth · 13/03/2020 08:55

Squid

Not much could make me grin today, but that did.

You nailed it Grin

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 08:56

surely there is no logic to the spread because they refused to test people who hadn’t been to the affected geographical locations and we don’t have the data to see the pattern?

But there are positive cases in every corner of the country so what does finding more and tracing their movements actually achieve other than using up resource

If you think you have it, just stay away from others

Loppy10 · 13/03/2020 08:56

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 08:58

squid what was arrogant was you insisting I’m wrong because I can see the flaws in something that even other medical experts don’t have a consensus on

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 13/03/2020 08:59

Thanks, @Loppy10 I see it both times. Is there any similar analysis on people with underlying health conditions, does anyone know, also by age?

@CharlieTangoBanana sorry I have nothing constructive to offer but I really feel for you and others in your situation Flowers The feeling of abandonment and as though people are collateral damage is just horrific

SubjectMatterExpert · 13/03/2020 09:00

I think in general the medical/epidemiological/public health experts around the world DO agree that there IS a best course of action I.e some level of lockdown. Only BJ and people that work for him are saying otherwise

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 13/03/2020 09:01

I've just found the official statement from the authorities in Naples.
The ambulance was called to the house because she was having an epileptic fit and not because of any concerns about Coronavirus. The crew were unable to save her. After her death the family said she'd had flu for about a week and wondered about Coronavirus. Other HCPs were sent to test her, and she resulted positive.
Looks like there was some confusion afterwards because it was another family living in the north who then rang the authorities to say there was a body in the house. The authorities contacted the family. Etc.
The Italian articles say the extended family who were in the house didn't live there but had come down from the north.

CrunchyCarrot · 13/03/2020 09:01

People keep stating that you don't become immune and you can catch it time and time again.

I think this is misinformation and doesn't help, it creates fear and panic. I'd like to see proper evidence that this is the case. If it were true then there'd be no point developing a vaccine, yet many worldwide are working towards just that.

Sure Coronavirus can mutate and thus our bodies may have a lesser immune response due to the changes in its sequence. Depends on how much the virus changes at any one time. But right now it's not helpful to take a virtual crystal ball and say we can't become immune.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 13/03/2020 09:02

Good morning all , I need to catch up before thread 25 begins.

Please tell me that I'm not the only one needing to step away from the holiday threads? So many people seem to be looking for a bargain or unwilling to stay put this Easter and only make necessary travel. Most of us have lost money, why can't we all just be sensible and use the spending money we had put by to go on a small break when things are safer.

I'm an inch away from sarcastically telling them all to book a month long cruise...

Horehound · 13/03/2020 09:04

There's loads of misinformation on here.

Most of this is just people's fears are anxieties and not much is actual truth or fact.
I think everyone on here needs to remember that.

Horehound · 13/03/2020 09:05

@ForeverRedSkinhead just concentrate on yourself and now what other people are doing

SistemaAddict · 13/03/2020 09:06

Both DCs' schools are preparing for if they need to close. The high school is on the ball and has identified that the issue is likely to be a lack of teachers. I feel reassured by the high school but not the primary.
