The reality is that there won't be any draconian measures in the uk at least not for some time. Whether it's something you agree with or not it's what is happening.

If you want to self isolate anyway then I think that has to be an individual decision. The reality is that neither business nor the government could sustain salary payments for 6 months of lockdown so I suspect even if that was ordered by the government there would be significant financial consequences for individuals. Therefore choosing to isolate yourself might not make you much worse off than if the government had ordered it.

@mrshoho after 7 days with no improvement, the advice is to ring 111. The advice is also to ring 111 as soon as you normally would go to the doctors.

For question 2, they are definitely dodging that question.

If I have symptoms, then get tested and it’s found I’m positive, I can tell all of the people at work and they can decide what to do. My kids, partner and parents who I have been in contact with, can self-isolate.

But the reality of the situation is that medical experts are working on the assumption that 80% of us could get this

They don’t have time to individually confirm that for everyone

You have to make your own decisions based on whether or not you think it’s likely you have it

HairyFloppins · 12/03/2020 19:07

Is anywhere still selling face masks? I feel now is the time to start wearing them.

MurrayTheMonk · 12/03/2020 19:07

Well if it's my employer I can tell you they will scoff, refuse to give you any pay until day 3, and you will probably have to use annual or unpaid leave allowance for anything over 5 working days... is what was said today. Shock

Oh plus all head office staff to wfh from Monday (probably) but front line care services 'business as usual' and if we are short of staff as they are all off sick, we are to redeploy staff between services but coordinate that ourselves. (Presumably service managers are immune from getting it).
Oh and 'we probably won't need another meeting about this as that's the plan'.

I'm seriously considering resigning. I only have to give a weeks notice as still in my probation period. The stress of trying to run two care services with no staff for however long this goes on for is going to be awful. I can't cover Saturday afternoon as it is and it's not even really begun yet. My care staff don't get paid enough to come in and leave their sick kids or whatever. I can't blame them.

....especially as upper management don't seem to give a monkeys.

thesunwillout · 12/03/2020 19:07

Didn't they announce yesterday or the day before thst they would be upping the amount of testing they could do?
Today they're not going to test anyone near as much as before?

So basically we won't get a true picture of new cases. I understand that we can't know the full extent, but surely the lack of testing is just dumbing down so we can look better than other countries?

Last week I was very ill with a cough and fever, DD has had the worse hard dry cough and fever for ten days.
Not considered Corona, but now I do think for DD it was.

What a shit show.

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 19:08

What modelling are they basing this on re people not able to stay at home?

Where is the model that people won't?

If that’s true, our number of new cases each day is going to plummet compared to every other country which no doubt BJ will use as evidence that his policy of ‘dicking about doing fuck all’ is really effective...

Ireland’s taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, announced the closure of all schools, colleges and childcare facilities from tomorrow. “I know that some of this is coming as a real shock... but we’re doing it for each other,” he said. (Guardian)

DH and I are moving to Ireland next year. I can't wait. How much more grown up their approach to public life is.

France is closing schools as well?!

Everywhere else is closing schools and we are reducing testing people. WTF

It feels like a few years ago when it was treacherous snow and every other school nearby was closing one by one except mine.

I went in, crashed my car in the process and then the school pointlessly closed early at 12pm and we had a total nightmare afternoon trying to get all of the children safely home again.

It was dangerous and utterly pointless. It was also way way more difficult than it would have been had a sensible decision been made at 7am as all other local schools managed to do.
