It doesn't seem like there's going to be anything from Boris? Surely it would have been mentioned on bbc news by now?

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 11:56

Bibi
That's excellent!
I wish I had a bolt hole in a country that is putting people first.

A Leader who not only 'follows the science' but also common sense 👏

user1471449595 · 12/03/2020 11:56

Jenny Harries on BBC is very reassuring. Sure some of you won’t like hearing that though

Oakmaiden · 12/03/2020 11:56

@fannyanney I think a statement is expected at around 12 noon?

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 11:57

@fannyanney
I don't think the cobra is till half one.

Not seen it mentioned all morning - he's probably washing his hands still. Five choruses of Happy Birthday, a few dozen National Anthems and he's now up to the entire catalogue of Elvis Presley

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 12/03/2020 11:58

@JemimaPuddleCat much the same 'banter' I'm hearing from parents at the school which I find worrying. Mis-informed or ignorant I can't decided but I'm taking it very seriously and keeping on top of numbers / cases and preparing to have the kids home for the foreseeable future! Right now I'm glad we live in a very remote part of the UK surrounded by fields with a beach 15 minutes away I think that's going to handy!

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 11:58

@fannyanney apparently he is making a speech at 12noon

userxx · 12/03/2020 11:58

If the schools are closing who will looking after the kids? Will the parent who has to stay at home be paid and by whom?

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 11:58

According to the sun:

Boris Johnson will hold the emergency Cobra meeting to discuss coronavirus around 1:15pm today (Thursday 12 March).

Ooooh I'd love an Irish farm trip. Can we come with you Bibi? I have Irish roots and yet have never been to Ireland (unless you count a trip to Dublin airport or the way to New York Grin). One day I will go.

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 11:59

I can't imagine there is going to be a speech at 12 if the cobra is not till 1:15?

? How long after symptoms are you sick?

A exposed 5 days to develop - next 3 days poss. aches and pains with a and cough - 5/6 days improve - 7 days should be better, if not or worsens seek help.

First day ill is Day1. Mostly done within 7 days

? Why are we not wearing masks?
A: if advised by HCW wear one.
Not a good idea generally as masks get used again, touched with hands, took on and off, so and could trap the virus.

Oakmaiden · 12/03/2020 12:00

Huh. The Public Health Wales webpage doesn't even have the right number of cases on rolls eyes.

phw.nhs.wales/topics/latest-information-on-novel-coronavirus-covid-19/

You can find the number by following the link to the "latest statement" but you would think they would keep the main page up to date.

Fourducksate · 12/03/2020 12:01

? Does smoking make it worse?
A; possibly as many smokers have underlying conditions and poorer lung function, so give up.

NewYearNewTwatName · 12/03/2020 12:01

Spagbol88 I understand it was 3000 fans, but I'm not sure, it was certainly over a 1000.

nationalpost.com/pmn/health-pmn/madrid-records-new-jump-in-coronavirus-cases-faces-hospital-bed-crunch

this link says there are over 1000 cases in Madrid alone. according to the article Madrid had a very relaxed approach to CV but that changed on Monday due to the amount of infections.

Today Madrid has gone into lock down.

don't worry though, although its airborne and our government says it can travel 2m from a persons cough and if you are within the 2m for 15mins or more could be infected. Its apparently doesn't apply to mass gatherings. That is what Mat Hancock said yesterday.

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/03/2020 12:01

Both Chris Whitty and Jenny Harries are very reassuring if you actually listen to the full interviews etc with them and the reasoning behind the decisions they are making.

ellangollen · 12/03/2020 12:01

In regard to school closures, I don't think my children's primary are even considering it-letters came out today to tell parents they can come into school for some events next week and I've just seen a photo of the head and assistant head on the Y6 residential trip that left yesterday

Oakmaiden · 12/03/2020 12:02

And another thing.

I don't get Parliament.

Why do they keep the same sort of hours my teenager does when out of school?

Anyone?

JulietteLeGall · 12/03/2020 12:02

If I were in the US I wouldn't want flights from UK. £££ before health.

Also, films being postponed because again, that's all about the £££.

JulietteLeGall · 12/03/2020 12:04

Oakmaiden - it's so they can discuss it over afternoon tea. With champagne, natch

Fourducksate · 12/03/2020 12:06

@Sunshinegirl82.

I felt that too. Dr Harries cane across as calm and the message was most people will be okay.

I also got the impression, with her saying “UK decisions are highly planned” that they have got a strategy and maybe know what they’re doing.

HedgehogDramas · 12/03/2020 12:06

@ScatteredMama82 I read that somewhere too. Got the news on but I think the COBRA meeting is at 12pm not the announcement yet.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/03/2020 12:06

The USA is likely to face a worse pandemic than the UK,
due to the idiocy, obsessive narcissism and total irresponsibility of Trump

Say what you will about Boris, but he's nothing like as bad as Trump
