From the article about the 98 and 85 year old who recovered in China Their conditions gradually improved after receiving personalised treatment plans and being given round-the-clock care, Chinese media report Their care was in ICU

Also they were treated with antibodies from recovered patients.

Wonder how many NHS patients will get this treatment. My guess: 0. (no criticism of NHS doctors and nurses who are brilliant- I just don't think they have the capacity or the financial or logistical support from the government)

Maybe this is why the politicians aren't so worried as they believe they'll be able to pay for such treatments themselves?

whatdoesntkillus · 12/03/2020 16:41

People can just self isolate regardless of what the government says. Vote with your feet.

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 16:42

@Beebityboo you do have a choice. Take them out and get a fine or leave them in school.
You might not like the choices but it’s a choice none the less.

Perhaps we should all stop fucking panicking and think.

kateandme · 12/03/2020 16:42

tom hanks posted a pic up.hes got it.him and his wife.

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 16:43

Huge political perils facing Boris! Sky news, no shit!

IrmaFayLear · 12/03/2020 16:43

I think that's entirely fair. When decisions have to be made, it can't be first come first served. I posted earlier that during a quite long spell in hospital last year I observed that well over 90% of the patients were not only elderly, but had dementia. It would of course not be right to give an intensive care bed and long-term care to someone very old with advanced dementia over a younger person able to recover fully.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 16:43

I think I am fuming ‘likely to balance economic and social costs’. Ffs sake social costs are deaths of our elderly and vulnerable and those with health issues. I absolutely despair about this governments priorities.

anonacfr · 12/03/2020 16:43

Justin Trudeau is in isolation as his wife is being tested.
Came back from London and developed flu-like symptoms.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 12/03/2020 16:43

Inside the La Paz hospital in Madrid they’re treating more than 100 Covid-19 patients.

A nurse involved in their care told us the hospital was under intense pressure, a gymnasium had been turned into an emergency ward with 20 extra beds, staff were exhausted and some of them didn’t have enough protective equipment, leading them to be afraid they’d be infected themselves.

Looks like Spain is starting to struggle. How many more warnings are the politicians going to ignore.

Have we bought more ventilators?
Have we made preparations for emergency ITUs?
Have we got more staff?

How many people will be turned away? How many will die because of inadequate health care?

Quartz2208 · 12/03/2020 16:43

So Ireland have closed schools but not restaurants or pubs

Because that makes sense

And it sums up the problem unless you lockdown everything it is just not going to work.

Bumblesbumbles · 12/03/2020 16:43

The problem is we can’t self isolate- what about work and schooling?

Beebityboo · 12/03/2020 16:44

Starbuck, my personal circumstances make it a lot more of a complicated issue.

AvocadoOwl · 12/03/2020 16:44

Agreed @IrmaFayLear.

Laniakea · 12/03/2020 16:44

surely if you honestly, truly believed that your children's lives were being put at risk by remaining in school then you would take them out regardless? I know that there are parents on this thread who have already done so.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 16:44

Sorry for missing apostrophe. Even now we can’t let standards slip

buttermilkwaffles · 12/03/2020 16:45

By the way on a phone, you can use Firefox browser app, select the 3 dots in the right hand corner, tick show desktop site. Then when you minimise the app the YouTube feed still plays, so you can do other stuff on phone but still hear the audio. (If you use the YouTube app or another browser then it just stops when you minimise it).

Beebityboo · 12/03/2020 16:46

I don't feel that it's fair we be financially penalised for trying to do what's best for the health of our families, especially those of us with underlying health issues.

sofato5miles · 12/03/2020 16:46

Just say they have a dry cough and fever and you will be in isolation

Laniakea · 12/03/2020 16:46

economic costs mean people lose their homes, it means no NHS, it means no social care.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 16:46

Thanks buttermilk - really helpful.

kateandme · 12/03/2020 16:46

my gran asked will she still be able to watch tv.as whoever controls whats on tv will all be in lockdown?so how will they put the programmes on and how will she watch this morning if holly and phil cant go to work!

Quartz2208 · 12/03/2020 16:47

Exactly Bumbles - the problem I feel with half of these measures is that they are almost designed to make us feel better that there are things that they can do

Proper lockdown as China did works you either have to be all in or not at all otherwise its a half hearted measure that doesnt solve anything but causes other issues.

Ireland not closing pubs/restaurants but closing schools makes no sense to me and is as much a policitical decision.

Give the Chinese Gvt credit they dont seem to be working on the politics anymore

Lumene · 12/03/2020 16:47

Thanks @buttermilkwaffles

YoursTunbridgeWells · 12/03/2020 16:47

Who will enforce the isolation though? What's to stop people going out for supplies beacuse they live alone.
I read earlier that you're not supposed to call to report that you are ill. People will ignore this. Not everyone but some will.
