kate - key questions. Boris may address them shortly.

IrmaFayLear · 12/03/2020 16:48

Schools won't fine you. They've got too many other fish to fry at the moment.

Regarding treating the elderly, wouldn't you go insane if you found that your dh or older dcs were behind a 90-year-old dementia patient in the queue for a ventilator? I know I would. And as for those saying the NHS is under-resourced, well, no amount of resources could have prepared us - or any country's health system - for a pandemic on this scale.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 12/03/2020 16:48

Boris about to make an announcement.

Ejmorgan · 12/03/2020 16:49

Do we think the delay on this press conference is because they are still discussing what to do ? Or are they having a cuppa ?

ShanghaiDiva · 12/03/2020 16:49

Yes, pointless to keep pubs and restaurants open.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 16:49

laneakia noted - yes.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 12/03/2020 16:49

Aha the beeb may scale back... we could be in for endless re-runs

kateandme · 12/03/2020 16:50

but how do you then say who is worthy.would someone with mental health and attempted suicide not be given treatment becasue they might kill themselves?what about addicts or homeless.who will be considered worthy when you are pitting people up against eachother.

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 16:50

The huge difference with keeping pubs open is people's choice.

If they want to go and drink, fine, that's the it choice. It's not fair however that we face financial upheaval of covid, and extra penalties for pulling dc out.

And we don't have the choice. Teachers, staff, admin, cleaners,, bus drivers... No one has that choice.

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 16:50

Realistically, if you call in and say your children are ill with flu like symptoms from now until the Easter holidays, it's actually pretty unlikely you will be fined.

If your school is undersubscribed, then you could also withdraw and homeschool with the potential to take your place back up later on.

If you have specific concerns about your child or an immediate family member, do talk to your school- I know the school I work at has put specialist plans in place for vulnerable students.

1happyhippie · 12/03/2020 16:50

Having a cuppa first ejmorgan
Then washing their hands again of course!

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 16:50

If you have underlying health issues and the school are aware you cannot be exposed, then you will be able to fight any penalisation your get. No court is ever going to make you pay for that.
If you don’t have underlying health issues then it’s ridiculous to pull them out at this present time.

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 16:50

People break isolation because they have been told again and again it is just like a cold. Why would they take it seriously?
Boris hasn't self isolated. Why should they?

Thunderpunt · 12/03/2020 16:50

Boris is still washing his hands....

sofato5miles · 12/03/2020 16:51

@kateandme it will be subjective and urgent decision making

confusedandtired99 · 12/03/2020 16:51

I think they are panicking and they don’t know what to do because no one is buying the keep calm and don’t react till it’s the right time - let’s follow the science that only we know bullshit

IrmaFayLear · 12/03/2020 16:51

Well, I suppose you can easily identify the elderly and possibly demented. Any other condition, state of mind or state of domicile, not so much.

HairyFloppins · 12/03/2020 16:51

Come on Boris I need to go and start dinner.

Alwaysreadyforbed · 12/03/2020 16:51

By protecting us , I mean the economy. Despite what you think, it’s very important. Do you really want to go through severe austerity? He’s going to take measures but it has to be at the right time. Get your leftie goggles off ffs

Cohle · 12/03/2020 16:51

There will be civil unrest.

Why on earth would people gather in large numbers to protest that gathering in large numbers hasn't been banned?

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 16:51

Kate we shouldn't even go there.

It's always the very last resort.

Every single single thing should be done to stop it.

Every stop pulled out.

magicrainbowbeans · 12/03/2020 16:52

Ffs my work just put out a bloody slide set highlighting the risk of anyone coming in from China and Italy. Weeks out of date. I despair.

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 16:52

Did anyone see that video of Boris washing his hands? He made a hash of it and did not wash his hands properly. This is our leader who can't get that one thing right.

Sunshinesky1981 · 12/03/2020 16:52

There is more Chance of Boris announcing that Cobra have decided to give him a personal Penis polisher just like Macron has rather than anything fucking useful to help the fears of the british public Angry

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 16:53

This article talks about the sorts of decisions they are currently making in ICUs.

www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/who-gets-hospital-bed/607807/

Very few private hospitals in the UK have ICU facilities- so these decisions will apply, even if people have private insurance. There will not be enough beds to treat everyone.
