Wait until after Easter, deregister if necessary after that if schools are still open. Why would you deregister?

waspfig · 12/03/2020 15:56

This is the time to take
It seriously. You still have time to shut it down.

Margaret Harrison from WHO

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:57

@halcyondays at our school, even last year in reception they are told to go and wash their hands before lunch.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 12/03/2020 15:57

Ofwaren, just seen the pics of the Chinese experts. And there's a video doing the rounds with lots of kids telling Italy they're standing with us. Smile

As it looks like we'll be standing with the UK in 3 weeks' time. I am astonished that they can't see what's on the way (or rather what's already there)

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:57

Margaret Harrison from WHO is that the blond lady with specs on BBC?

buttermilkwaffles · 12/03/2020 15:57

Nicked from Twitter.

Yes bookme I just don't understand the lack of action.
They should be helping with social distancing at the very least.

So reinfection is a real possibility.

waspfig · 12/03/2020 15:59

Margaret Harrison from WHO is that the blond lady with specs on BBC?

@cjt110 yes it is.

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2020 15:59

Agreed. I am on a parents whatsapp group and it just exploded.

Gosh none of that here. Can you say whereabouts you are in the country Butternut? Or if not, do you have many cases?

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 15:59

BREAKING: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will self-isolate and work from home as his wife is being tested for coronavirus

OP posts:
Quartz2208 · 12/03/2020 16:00

@lynamic not necessarily they could very well be family cases of those who have been tested and in hospital - some more than likely family transfer rather than they are in hospital

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/03/2020 16:01

Genuine question if the WHO thought everyone should lockdown and close schools why wouldn't they just say so? Why say it's an individual decision for governments?

They could easily say, it's for individual governments to decide but we recommend you close schools and lockdown. They haven't.

MetalDog · 12/03/2020 16:01

About 1% of those who get this will die in the UK.

According to Chris Whitty.

According to the WHO it’s 3.4% and if you work it out for yourself using the Worldometer formula (also used by Chris Whitty’s scientists to get 33% before using modelling to reduce it to 1%, I might add) it’s currently 4% ... and rising.

Butternutbrownie · 12/03/2020 16:01

@cjt110 if we are still in a peak/shit creek in four weeks then I will not want to be sending dc to school.

If the government is still insisting on keeping schools open then I will have to dereg as we can't afford the fines.

At least this has bought us four weeks to see how things go. We are self isolating completely from today.

What has Leo Varadkar been told that Boris hasn't?

Scbchl · 12/03/2020 16:03

How is the delay stage actually delaying anything when they arent going to test people with mild symptoms or carry out contact tracing? Surely the number will rise even more rapidly now then?

Butternutbrownie · 12/03/2020 16:03

@MarshaBradyo we have had some cases in a local feeder school, it seems to have made quite a few of us jumpy.

Dh has a heart condition and ds has asthma so this is also factoring in to our decision.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/03/2020 16:03

Is anyone skipping "whole class" birthday parties?

Why? So you can stop them having fun with the same people they spend 6 hours with in an enclosed classroom every day anyway?

I didn't say I was. I asked if anyone else was.

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 16:04

Someone said something about how they are sure workplaces are stepping up cleaning. Honestly our place gets hoovered and a flick over with the same cloth used in multiple offices. Door handles are never wiped. I suspect the cleaners would spread it more than stop it spreading.

SixesandEights · 12/03/2020 16:04

Once again Nicola Sturgeon shows that enigmatic quality so missing from the PM - leadership.

I decided yesterday to start social distancing until the end of the month. My mum is elderly and I'm not too well at the moment, so it seems to me to be a sensible move.

Glad those that know best have more or less caught up with me... Hmm

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 16:04

Secondary schools aren’t standing over kids to see they wash hands before lunch.

Carlislemumof4 · 12/03/2020 16:04

@buttermilkwaffles My cat appreciates that sketchGrin

@Scbchl It is just words to make people feel like they are doing something. The words were probably suggested by the Nudge Unit.
