@Totteringtime i am thinking about doing the same. Ds has just came off his 4th lot of steroids in the last year and seems like he is getting chesty again.

I do not trust his school to put his needs before their attendence tables.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 12/03/2020 15:49

Not caught up, but kudos to Nicola for getting out before our own 'dear' PM! She did well, she explained her thinking and her plans.

1happyhippie · 12/03/2020 15:49

Is Nicola stergen speaking for the whole of the uk? Wasn’t clear in her statement.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/03/2020 15:50

Is anyone skipping "whole class" birthday parties?

Youngatheart00 · 12/03/2020 15:50

There is a HUGE element of vote with your feet here. If you feel govt advice is lacking (as it appears to be vs every other impacted nation) take your own decisions. Take your kids out of school. Work from home (if you can) or call in sick.

Lynamic · 12/03/2020 15:50

Are you that surprised Tunbridge same society that wants children to starve

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 15:50

Just let schools take you to court for pulling them out for this. You will just need to do a sad face story about your poorly DC for the tabloids, if they try to.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 12/03/2020 15:51

So I just spoke to work here about the 7 day thing as my toddler has a stinking cold at the moment. I said do I have to take that as unpaid if she has to stay home. Their stance is I would need to get a gp letter that states she has to self isolate for 7 days and then they will pay me! Wtf??? That's going to clog up an already groaning system.

GrassyGreen · 12/03/2020 15:51

BBC News states BoJo will speak at 5pm

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:52

@GrassyGreen Perfectly timed for when the masses leave work

QueenofmyPrinces · 12/03/2020 15:52

Why the fuck are we hearing about this from Nicola Sturgeon? Where the fuck is that bloviating shit trumpet who calls himself the Prime Minister?!

GrinGrinGrin

That made me laugh out loud!!!!

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 15:52

@Youngatheart00 I am doing that. But some people do listen to the Government and trust what they say, including sadly a lot of elderly people.

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 15:52

China is sending a medical team and equipment to Italy to help in the fight against coronavirus; China reported only 15 new cases yesterday - Xinhua

@Lynamic
Where is this information from please?

Lumene · 12/03/2020 15:52

Whoever said Boris was good at grasping things quickly-Trump is really good at that too, esp pussies.

GrinSad

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:53

Is it still the Aussie lady with blond hair from WHO on BBC News?

Scbchl · 12/03/2020 15:53

It doesnt matter if school capacity is more than 500 because she said "the science" shows that wont increase the risk but its because certain events put extra strain on frontline services.

So large football matches need lots of police and ambulances etc and they want to eradicate that. So I dint really see what exactly is being done to delay from the new measures. Stay at home if you have symptoms for 7 days but you wont be tested and they wont try to find anyone you may of already passed it on to or close your school or workplace for deep cleaning?

Butternutbrownie · 12/03/2020 15:53

Agreed. I am on a parents whatsapp group and it just exploded.

Just about everyone on it is going to do what I said above. Say dc need to be isolated for 7 days, and then say they need to be isolated for 7 days after that so can't bring them in.

The general plan seems to be the same. Wait until after Easter, deregister if necessary after that if schools are still open.

Playground will be a ghost town tomorrow.

QueenofmyPrinces · 12/03/2020 15:53

Is anyone skipping "whole class" birthday parties?

Why? So you can stop them having fun with the same people they spend 6 hours with in an enclosed classroom every day anyway?

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 15:54

The people who have stated Boris is bright have obviously never listened to Prime Ministers Question Time.

Laniakea · 12/03/2020 15:54

"Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hold a press conference at 4.30pm today in Downing Street after the Cobra meeting on coronavirus."

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 15:54

How many children in a school are able to wash their hands before lunch? There’s only so many wash basins. Then they go and touch the fingerprint pad and eat lunch. Hand gels are like gold dust. At home you can wash your hands with soap and water before eating.

And if kids meet up with a couple of friends, now and then, it’s still got to be better than spending hours every day in larger groups in the classroom.

waspfig · 12/03/2020 15:54

WHO live on bbc news

Lockdown is a decision for your local authorities (governments) based on local context.

'We will have to accept that we will live differently'

It is not clear whether people are being reinfected. We think it's likely to be that viral levels fall below the threshold for tests picking it up then rise again at a later date.

Now we're saying get serious. Preventing (hygiene, social distancing) detecting (contact tracing) and protecting (health workers)

Lynamic · 12/03/2020 15:54

What the italy infections

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 15:56

If kids meet up with a couple of friends you can enforce hand washing and it is a few other kids, not the 28 in their class and then more at dinner and at break times. It is way worse in school.
