Very muddled presentation, she's not very good at giving clear information.

Random18 · 12/03/2020 15:40

She is making perfect sense! And it's been my thoughts all along (definitely not an expert).

I am glad she is not closing schools. I hope it will be the same for the rest of the UK.

I think there is every chance it will happen but do we really want the kids to be out of school for months?

zippyswife · 12/03/2020 15:40

@Totteringtime
I’m not in your position but would probably do that if I were.

Freezingold · 12/03/2020 15:40

@Sunshinegirl82 it’s not so much the raw data, is has this ‘model’ been peer reviewed, who has seen it, - if they are relying on this for our whole response to a potentially awful crisis then this needs to be out there, for others to judge and to criticise - that is a healthy robust strategy.

That I can’t even see it, deeply worries me. The ECDC and WHO have asked everyone to be transparent and work together.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 12/03/2020 15:40

So delay phase is stay home when I’ll and try not to die. Don’t ask for help?

Helenj1977 · 12/03/2020 15:41

Is that just in Scotland?? Am I being thick, do we wait for Boris??

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:41

@Random18 I think she is referring (with the exception of gatherings) to be presenting for the UK, not just Scotland.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 15:41

Twitter seems to be down ???

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:41

@YoursTunbridgeWells Yes, and if you're going to die, do it quietly.

GuessWhoBoo · 12/03/2020 15:42

@Totteringtime similar, daughter is asthmatic. She's been sent home today as a precautionary measure due to how severe she has it. Spoke to other dc teacher, nothing in place to close the school. It would be in her best interest for them to be home but don't want the fines either.

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 15:42

So where’s Boris and what’s happening in the rest of the UK?

PestyMachtubernahme · 12/03/2020 15:42

Our healthcare system runs at near capacity most of the time. The blue hump won't work.
The green line is very undesirable.
The red hump seems to be the desired path of the Government. Short and sharp also bloody painful.

Self preservation (which will help others also) practice social distancing as suitable for your circumstances.
If you live with immunocompromised people, speak to your DC's HT and ask / demand authorised leave.
If you are OK mate, help out someone who is able to cope.

Why the fuck are we hearing about this from Nicola Sturgeon? Where the fuck is that bloviating shit trumpet who calls himself the Prime Minister?!

Butternutbrownie · 12/03/2020 15:43

Right.... I'll tell school that dd is ill for the first 7 days. I'll be ill and unable to bring her in for the next 7. That takes us just about to easter.

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:44

Scotland bans mass gatherings of more than 500 people

Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has announced a ban on gatherings of over 500 people in Scotland.

She also said that at the Cobra meeting it was decided that the UK had moved from the “contain” phase into the delay phase.
Guardian Source

AvocadoOwl · 12/03/2020 15:44

Surely it would have made more sense to have UK-wide announcements first and then country specific ones Hmm

The fact that Sturgeon is talking about a Scottish decision to ban gatherings seems to suggest the rest of the UK is doing things differently Confused

Where is Boris?!

Lynamic · 12/03/2020 15:44

Yes Tottering with respiritory condition in process of school withdrawal. So angry at manipulation to believe the virus doesn't hurt children

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 15:45

Still hoping NI schools will close, Ireland is an island and we should all be doing the same thing at the same time.

OldQueen1969 · 12/03/2020 15:45

It's not about what people want though is it, it's about taking the best approach to slow and prevent spread. Nobody in their right minds WANTS schools shut, childcare issues, fun gatherings cancelled or business disrupted, but if that being done now achieves something it's a prudent decision.

And in light of the new info about the worst shedding phase being before symptoms appear, how can these measures be anything but sensible?

The testing and sampling done so far is somewhat random and within narrow criteria and may well not show the true grip of CV.

Youngatheart00 · 12/03/2020 15:45

“Gatherings” what does that exactly include? Workplaces? Some schools are well over 500 pupils

TokyoSushi · 12/03/2020 15:46

Boris will be speaking 'later this afternoon' according to Sky News

YoursTunbridgeWells · 12/03/2020 15:46

This is appalling. English lives are worth less than any of our neighbours

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 12/03/2020 15:46

What's going on? Where's Boris? It wasn't made clear if that announcement was for Scotland or the UK?

Helenj1977 · 12/03/2020 15:47

Theres more then 500 children in my daughters school...

Scbchl · 12/03/2020 15:48

She has only advised cancelling events of over 500. She hasnt actually banned them.

All a bit shit really. No trips abroad for schools and stay at home if you have symptoms for 7 days and dont call GP or 111.
