85 10- 19 y o and 43 under 10 in Italy, this must be hospital cases ? Unless GPs are testing

BiBiBirdie · 12/03/2020 15:29

@CoronaCon why are you in here? You have a thread of your own, stop derailing ours.
If you think it's all a con trick/not as bad as other illness then that's your prerogative, and you're entitled to think how you like. Likewise, we are concerned and wish to discuss it.

Sturgeon just confirmed now moved into delay stage on BBC News

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:33

BREAKING ON BBC Sturgeon just confirmed now moved into delay stage on BBC News. Change in advise now given to public. Will now advise from tomorrow, if you have symptoms that are indicative of CV19 you should stay at home and self isolate for a period of 7 days. Symptoms are a fever or persistent cough. Unless don't clear up within a few days or detrioirate - do not call GP, just stay at home.

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 15:33

Except it is just words. The delay stage will mean very little until they are forced to do anything.

@freezingold

I appreciate it's frustrating that we might not have access to the raw data but hopefully it helps to see that these things are being thought through and there is a rationale behind not introducing some of the things we've seen elsewhere.

I'm not saying I know the approach is definitely correct but it does appear to be considered.

@cjt110
Nobody will though. Not if isnt enforced

"Delay Stage" - yet no actual action to delay?

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:35

Will not routinely test those with symptoms - surveillance and sample testing to develop knoweldge around spread.

CMO will answer later.

Advice also given re schools - overseas trips should not be going ahead. FCO will be issuing travel advice that aligns with that position.

Mummug · 12/03/2020 15:36

Nicola Sturgeon saying no school trips overseas

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 15:36

Absolute rubbish, the reasons being given not to close schools.

PointlessUsername · 12/03/2020 15:36

No schools closed then.

xJune88 · 12/03/2020 15:36

So looks like nothings changing from what Sturgeon is saying?

School closures - not the advice right now to close (colleges and unis too). Although this is an issue which will be kept under regular review. Closure has an affect on key works being at work - closing will elad to children gathering in more informal setting which may be of more risk - unlike hand hygiene at school.

If it gets to the stage to close, it will not be for a week or two, it will be advised to last throughout the peak - potentially until the summer period. This underlines the importance of this decision and why we don't do this earlier than the science advises them to do

Totteringtime · 12/03/2020 15:37

I’ve got a teen with chronic progressive lung condition and am considering withdrawing them and their healthy sibling from school. Anyone else in this situation?

Youngatheart00 · 12/03/2020 15:37

3 Leicester City players in self isolation.....needless to say no travel history so full community spread.

I really hope the reason for the Govt delay is that they are escalating further.

Apricotfool · 12/03/2020 15:37

Jesus, that Independent article Sad

purpleboy · 12/03/2020 15:37

School not closing yet, possible closures could be until summer so won't do it to early

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 15:39

Hope the above helped - i was touch typing the broadcast for all.

Will advise from next week to cancel over 500 people gathering in Scotland. Not because of the science but for wider reasons which are important - consistency of public messaging at a time like this. If advising to self isolate, and in other ways that life has to change, it is inconsistent to have a business as usual messaging regarding large gatherings.

At certain events, whether they need ambulance cover, it has an impact on emergency services - at a time when pressure is considerable, it is incumbent upon government to remove unnecessary burdens.

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 15:39

@totteringtime
Yes, I did this 13 days ago.
Some schools are holding the place for you but some are making you withdraw altogether.
