Nadine Dorres has Coronavirus. Just confirmed,

What does this mean for Government

How did she manage to get tested when she hasn't been in Italy/China in the last fortnight?

Us plebs would have been told there's fuck all wrong but a viral infection and to take some paracetamol.

Bouledeneige · 11/03/2020 00:30

I agree we cant blame anyone who catches it. I might be having a friend come to stay during the week when they are working in London and we have agreed that if they or anyone in my household get it no one is to blame anyone else. We all commute all the time on the rube and buses. Well for now!

Dorries will have been in touch with a huge number of people in the past week so the potential for it spreading wider through the government, parliament and her constituents is immense. I guess Boris won't be that inconvenienced by having to work at home - its just upstairs. Just no need to get out of his jimjams. Though awkward if he spread it to the royal family with dire consequences.

I'm sure there are plenty of business continuity plans in place for just these situations. Who is the deputy prime minister anyway? and wouldn't the Budget gig be interesting with everyone on skype.

I'm not surprised by Phillip and Liz's marital arrangements - he needed space to see his lady friends didn't he? And I bet he's always been up for more of a laugh than her - with her tupperware, tea and antiques roadshow.

I was truly frightened for a moment until I reread the news article. Nadine Dorries is a health minister. She’s not Minister for Health.

Hadjab · 11/03/2020 00:54

Great. Thanks a bunch Nadine

A shining example of people not being able to take on board facts. Anybody with the ability to read and retain information knows that it can take up to 14 days for symptoms to appear, so are we expecting people to put their lives on hold on the off-chance that they may have it? 🙄

CoffeeHere · 11/03/2020 01:03

Wrong forum. You need the CORONAVIRUS one.

Oh come on, this is getting ridiculous.

theflushedzebra · 11/03/2020 01:06

I think the scary thing is she's been mingling in the House of Commons, doing constituency surgeries etc. Super-spreader?

MashedSpud · 11/03/2020 01:06

I feel bad for her elderly mother. I wouldn’t want my mum to get covid 19 let alone be the one to give it to her.

theflushedzebra · 11/03/2020 01:12

I'm very afraid for my mum and stepdad (both in their 70s) and the latter works in London still 2 days a week.

I want him to stay at home, but he won't because he teaches exam students in an FE College.

Newjez · 11/03/2020 01:17

I'm a celebrity, get me out of here!!!!!!

Tiredmumno1 · 11/03/2020 01:25

And Boris was at that thing with half the royal family the other day. Blimey imagine if they all get it and die and Harry and Meghan end up as king and queen! 😬😬😆

@VivaLeBeaver sorry I know I shouldn't, but that made me chuckle 😁

JudyCoolibar · 11/03/2020 01:26

And how come her Mum is getting a test so quickly?

Because she's 84, has CV symptoms, and has been in direct contact with someone with CV? At the moment at least they are heavily prioritising people in that situation.

Fr0g · 11/03/2020 01:31

Probably part of Boris' conspiracy to prorogue parliament again.

Do we need a topic dedicated to what topic should this thread be on?

NeckPainChairSearch · 11/03/2020 01:56

What is more likely? Nadine Dorries being so unlucky to contact the virus from one of the 380 current cases out of 70 million people or that the country is infected with tens of thousands of cases?

I just saw this from a poster on another thread. I must admit, it gave me pause.

Furries · 11/03/2020 02:03

TBF, and not trying to be police, but I do think having all CV-related threads in one place is more helpful - same as everyone knows where AIBU is, they know where to go for latest stuff re CV. Just my POV.

However, seems very odd that she only started feeling ill at the end of last week and already feeling much better? Definitely not a tin foil hat person, but that seems blooming quick. Am not reading anything into it other than now having a daft earworm:

“Did a Govt signing thing Friday
Started feeling rubbish on Saturday
Chilled on Sunday and Monday
Tested and felt much better by Tuesday
And on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday ....”

Yeah, lyrics and rhyming don’t quite work 😂

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 06:06

Has anyone else said they’ve got over it so quickly?

Fannia · 11/03/2020 06:29

I was watching a video of someone who had it in Wuhan and he said he had several times where he got better, then got worse, so she may not be over the worst yet.

thefemalelemur · 11/03/2020 06:59

@Worriedmom2020 yes boris has been in my local bloody town! We were doing quite well avoiding coronavirus until now 🙄

Hoik · 11/03/2020 07:03

Has anyone else said they’ve got over it so quickly

One of the first UK cases, the superspreader guy, said he felt ill for around four days then was getting better from that point on.

SabineSchmetterling · 11/03/2020 07:17

Only 18 cases have recovered so far, the rest are all active so I presume it’s unusual to recover so quickly.

TW2013 · 11/03/2020 07:18

I guess Boris won't be that inconvenienced by having to work at home - its just upstairs. Just no need to get out of his jimjams.

That is an image that I did not need to start my day on.

x2boys · 11/03/2020 07:19

I assume because she's an MP / Health Minister @Mitzik chances are she mixes with far more people than us ordinary folk ?

chomalungma · 11/03/2020 07:29

It will be interesting to see developments today with this situation.

OP posts:
ihaveaquestionplease · 11/03/2020 07:39

I think there must be far more cases of the virus in the uk than the government know about.

ihaveaquestionplease · 11/03/2020 07:40

Also I agree with pp that it's actually useful to have all of these threads in the same place so people can find them.

Hoik · 11/03/2020 07:44

What's classed as recovered though? If I was unwell I'd class myself as recovered once I felt reasonably well again enough to function again, a the "two paracetamol and power through" level of functioning. Whereas the medical profession would have a different idea of recovered.
