magimedi · 10/03/2020 09:44

I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

My anxiety and depression has really racked up a notch or two the last few days, I was feeling so low today, so from now on I am only going to watch this thread.

Checking in

Briefly with regards to the 'other thread' - its worth noting that a lot of the posters on there were heavily involved in the Brexit-will-kill-us-all threads. They will be involved heavily in whatever comes when this Corona nonsense has faded away. It is closely just their thing. Some people thrive on drama, and doom mongering and they are whipping one another up into utter hysteria! I don't look at the thread anymore, but if I did I would just be rolling my eyes.

This thread is much nicer Smile I have just treated myself to a new Kindle book (Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King) and I'm off to read in bed with a brew, a biscuit ok 4 biscuits and the dog. Brew

If anyone is looking for a late night distraction I really recommend BBC4 Extra - they broadcast comedy shows between 10pm and midnight. Plus this weekend they had a whole series of shows for the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy anniversary.

Thymelord · 10/03/2020 21:19

clearly, not closely. FGS MNHQ we need* an edit button!

NemophilistRebel · 10/03/2020 21:19

Positives I’m taking from today is based on number of confirmed cases in uk has increased at a much smaller trajectory than Italy’s numbers did at the same point

PineappleDanish · 10/03/2020 21:21

There's an excellent podcast called Ologies where each week the presenter interviews an expert. This week is a special on Corona virus. I haven't listened yet but I've just seen the presenter reassuring someone on Twitter that it's not scare mongery.

Other episodes are always very sensible, level and really interesting too. Albeit from a US point of view. Will listen tomorrow and report back.

dappledsunshine · 10/03/2020 21:34

Yes let's keep this positive folks- this is the place for rational and reasonable discussion with lots of focus on good things and how to keep spirits lifted.

For anyone who hasn't done so I can highly recommend limiting your exposure to the news, it's helped me massively just checking in 1 or 2 times per day and turning off all notifications.

Asgoodasarest · 10/03/2020 21:39

@dappledsunshine me too.

Spacecadetagain · 10/03/2020 21:42

The other thread is terrifying now .. it really does feel like a Doomsday thread .. I can’t look at it anymore but did start out on there .. I’ve felt a bit better since I stopped looking at it

HanaHeya · 10/03/2020 21:45

Shocking day here too, I’m glad I’m not alone and really appreciate the collective support here. My good news, I am less cross and much nicer with kids as this has put so many things into perspective.

Nikki360 · 10/03/2020 21:45

Happy to have found this thread. I have health anxiety and I am a worrier. I have been fairly calm about this but the last two days I'm getting very very anxious. Thanks for this ☺️

magimedi · 10/03/2020 21:59

"Briefly with regards to the 'other thread' - its worth noting that a lot of the posters on there were heavily involved in the Brexit-will-kill-us-all threads."

I pointed that out on the' other thread' (some 4/5 threads ago) & was shot down in flames.

(And I am a staunch remainer)

I have the calm app with sleep stories on it have a peaceful night

KenDodd · 10/03/2020 22:07

I was reading on Reddit earlier (I know this isn't really a reliable source)- apparently they are going to start swabbing anybody who presents to hospital with respiratory symptoms now. Expect a jump in numbers as they find more "milder" cases

That would actually be really good news. If there are loads of people with it who aren't really sick that reduces the death rate dramatically.

StillNotANewUser · 10/03/2020 22:16

This is definitely true in our Trust, and assume it's consistent nationwide. The protocol for who to test is changing daily at the moment. SO relieved we're not in the US, the shortage of tests there must be a real hindrance to tracking what's going on.

KenDodd · 10/03/2020 22:18

Here's some good news! Dog rescued with a sausage!

Placemarking. Just had a look on another thread and ended up feeling cold with panic. Thanks to all on here posting sensible stuff.

TheFormidableMrsC · 10/03/2020 22:48

I've had to stop looking at "the other thread". It's becoming a Walking Dead scenario and unhelpful to anybody with any sort of anxiety I think.

HonestlyItsFine · 10/03/2020 22:54

I've felt much better since I stopped reading other threads and only check BBC news nightly.

NameWithChange · 11/03/2020 00:17

I am glad I found this thread. Need some grounding.

MsGillis · 11/03/2020 00:29

So glad to find this thread- I’ve been avoiding all media for months and not engaging with it due to health anxiety but tonight it’s catching up with me and I’m finding myself just wanting to keep my kids away from school. Flowers to everyone with anxiety out there.
