magimedi · 10/03/2020 09:44

I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

@PineappleDanish not being able to get stuff is one of my biggest fears too. I wondered whether it has anything to the with being Irish and the famine somehow looms in the psyche.

Anyway, we've been talking about moving house and I'm really keen to get a bigger garden so we can grow some of our own food and maybe get some chickens. I'm not massively into gardening but would like to try to get into it a bit more.

Layladylay234 · 14/03/2020 18:32

@PineappleDanish. Same. I came home today saying to my DP,you're gonna have to do the next few shops otherwise I'm gonna lose it with someone in a shop! He's so laid back,he finds it all comical. Called me just now to ask did I want 10 packs of veggie sausages as they're in stock in the Tesco he went to lol. He's my touchstone throughout all this,I honestly don't know what I'd so without him.

purpleme12 · 14/03/2020 18:36

Ah I need someone like that. I find these things that crop up (not that anything like this has cropped up!!) Hard just being me and my little girl

HonestlyItsFine · 14/03/2020 18:41

I'm going to do a Tesco shop for Wednesday (my store has loads of slots) so fingers crossed for some good substitutions!

DaffodilThatch · 14/03/2020 18:44

@purpleme12 that must be tough. How old is your daughter? I feel lucky that mine are too young to realise anything is up.

purpleme12 · 14/03/2020 18:58

She's 6. She's lovely we're very close and while of course she knows there's an illness going round and it's really important we wash our hands properly and carefully she doesn't get the full implication as I don't want to scare her. So she's not scared herself but I've got to keep it that way. I do think though that she could subconsciously pick on my worry even if I don't say about it

PineappleDanish · 14/03/2020 19:10

It's hard not passing on the worry to the kids. Mine are all older - the youngest is 11. But for them it's very much carry on as normal, albeit with a bit more hand washing. They know that it's not about them getting sick, it's about protecting others in the community.

This thread’s very good for helping keep the anxiety at bay Purple. I’m hoping this little group will keep going for a long time.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 14/03/2020 19:34

Anyone got any optimistic thoughts about when this might calm down/be over? Would love to hear some positive stuff.

andratuttobene · 14/03/2020 19:37

I’m having a glass of wine for you gotham but don’t seem to have received my cake delivery. Hopefully any minute now!

DaffodilThatch · 14/03/2020 19:40

@purpleme12 sounds like you are doing a great job for your daughter. Unmumsmetty virtual hug!

I'm looking at it another way, @MilkTrayLimeBarrel. I hope that the whole flattening the curve thing works and that we see steady rises over weeks rather than the hospitals overwhelmed in a fortnight and everywhere on lockdown. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for it all to be over by the middle of April. But I don't think that's realistic. I'd say hopefully middle to end May we'll be seeing a huge decrease in cases. (and if that means I can still go to Florida at the end of June, even better).

Absentwomen · 14/03/2020 19:47

May I join? What a wonderful thread.

peachsquish · 14/03/2020 19:52

Joining for a handhold. Have health anxiety anyway, I have high blood pressure, am in early 40s and the reporting on underlying conditions is sending me over the edge,
Not helped with the slightly tight burny feeling chest I started with yesterday. No other symptoms as yet but my head is going a million miles an hour.

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 19:58

If anyone wants a laugh there’s some lunatic making her own hand sanitiser with methylated spirit. I reckon she’d be better off drinking it - unless she already has ...

Mummabear2212 · 14/03/2020 20:03

Just found this thread. A bit of a skim read but some lovely, positive messages. I'm usually fairly resilient and pretty unflappable, but the constant news, running commentary and lack of action by the government has got me overwhelmingly anxious over this. I'm truly not a panicker by nature but this has got me. Hoping this lovely thread can help, alongside Wine

user1488464056 · 14/03/2020 20:28

@MortyFide fab name. My stepdaughter named her cat Trevor......then found out he was actually a she. For a while she was known as Mrs Trevor. Then we realised she really wouldn't know it's a boys name and she is back to just Trevor again Smile

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 20:31

I think the schools seem to be teaching about it well. My Ds (11) came home the other day and told me very seriously

"It is important to be calm mum to help the immune system"

Good advice I thought!

Millie2013 · 14/03/2020 20:35

Orange, a perfect time to share the video I was harping on about yesterday

Sorry if link doesn’t work and copying and pasting required. I’m such a dinosaur 😂

thereplycamefromanchorage · 14/03/2020 20:35

Something positive: in my local area, there's a coronavirus volunteer group set up through FB. They have already had 360 people register (in about 2 days) to offer to deliver food and look out for anyone vulnerable.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 14/03/2020 20:41

Millie, thanks for the link - great advice, and seems to reinforce the need to stay away from the hype of social media, and find healthy ways of dealing with anxiety.

purpleme12 · 14/03/2020 20:47

@DaffodilThatch thank you so much xx

HonestlyItsFine · 14/03/2020 20:57

I've been quite anxious and tearful today. I don't know how I am going to cope for the next few months. Thankfully, am home now for the next 3 days, so plan to just chill and relax and try to accept.

madeyemoodysmum · 14/03/2020 21:05

I'm just taking one day at a time.
