I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

HonestlyItsFine · 14/03/2020 17:06

I glanced at a thread earlier where someone said "1 in 6 people who catch it will die" and I just wanted to scream NOOOOOO, NOO THEY WON'T YOU FOOL!

Where on earth did they get that figure? I saw someone on facebook claiming that France had a 78% death rate or something. People shouldn't comment unless they know what they are talking about!

PineappleDanish · 14/03/2020 17:20

Hasn't this whole thing jut shown up how poor many people are at reading comprehension and interpreting figures? It's quite frightening.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 17:22

I've heard some really odd things to be honest. Comparing it to the black death / plague or ebola.

In fact there's a positive. It's not plague /ebola Confused

Millie2013 · 14/03/2020 17:24

(Some) people are gobshites

HonestlyItsFine · 14/03/2020 17:26

Ebola has something like a 90% CFR.
Now that's a reason to panic buy.
I've accepted there is fuck all I can do about this, going to go and have a nap now.

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 17:30

Oh Monty! What a little sweetheart. 🥰

M0reGinPlease · 14/03/2020 17:40

I've just been to Tesco- it was like the apocalypse. They really need to get a grip of people's stupidity now. I genuinely need toilet roll!!

On a funnier note, a member of staff was cleaning up in the aisle I was browsing in and she found a packet of antibac wipes under a shelf. 'Oooh' she said 'I'm scared to be seen holding these in case someone mugs me for them'

HonestlyItsFine · 14/03/2020 17:44

The shops really need to start rationing now. It's got out of hand.

Layladylay234 · 14/03/2020 17:44

Hi all, had a bit of a near melt down earlier when I had to do my weekly shop with my 10 year old and was utterly dismayed at the amount of empty shelves. I became very afraid of humanity and it's selfishness, how will we ever get through this if this is so many people's go to reaction? Where's the spirit of puling together to get through it?

Then, after deciding against giving into the panic, I decided to take a leaf out of Ghandi's book and be the change I want to see in the world. I've taken a deep breath, reminded myself that maybe we've been too lucky for too long..having everything at our fingertips whenever we want it, and maybe this is natures way of telling us we need to change the way we live. I'm going to start growing more fruit and veg tomorrow, think more about when to go shopping and maybe start doing a few small shops later at night until this passes. If you need anything, let me know. Lets look after the good in humanity.

Someone on FB group posted this poem, I hope people like it..

Yes there is fear.
Yes there is isolation.
Yes there is panic buying.
Yes there is sickness.
Yes there is even death.
But,
They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise
You can hear the birds again.
They say that after just a few weeks of quiet
The sky is no longer thick with fumes
But blue and grey and clear.
They say that in the streets of Assisi
People are singing to each other
across the empty squares,
keeping their windows open
so that those who are alone
may hear the sounds of family around them.
They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland
Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.
Today a young woman I know
is busy spreading fliers with her number
through the neighbourhood
So that the elders may have someone to call on.
Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples
are preparing to welcome
and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary
All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting
All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way
All over the world people are waking up to a new reality
To how big we really are.
To how little control we really have.
To what really matters.
To Love.
So we pray and we remember that
Yes there is fear.
But there does not have to be hate.
Yes there is isolation.
But there does not have to be loneliness.
Yes there is panic buying.
But there does not have to be meanness.
Yes there is sickness.
But there does not have to be disease of the soul
Yes there is even death.
But there can always be a rebirth of love.
Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now.
Today, breathe.
Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic
The birds are singing again
The sky is clearing,
Spring is coming,
And we are always encompassed by Love.
Open the windows of your soul
And though you may not be able
to touch across the empty square,
Sing.

HonestlyItsFine · 14/03/2020 17:46

Layladylay234 love that poem!

PineappleDanish · 14/03/2020 17:47

Surely there has to come a point where people can't physically squeeze more into their house? People cannot keep up this level of stockpiling for three months or more.

Not being able to get stuff is what triggers my anxiety the most and I'm not sure why. DH is lovely about it and is doing the shopping. Lots of fresh food and as there's no indication that shops will close, we're just shopping as usual.

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 17:49

That poem is so beautiful. Thank you @Layladylay234.

larry55 · 14/03/2020 17:50

On the subject of toilet rolls my dd had her Tesco delivery today and had two substitutions - a different type of pasta sauce from the one she ordered and 24 toilet rolls instead of the 9 she had ordered as they had no 9 packs in stock. I know where to go when I need some!

TheChampagneGalop · 14/03/2020 18:01

Thank you everyone for this thread. The BBC news video with the children interrupting was so funny!
I have friends who are extremely anxious and isolating themselves, it makes me anxious and sad too. In these times, we really need to focus on positive things as well.

SummerHouse · 14/03/2020 18:07

Today, I made jam.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 18:13

Making jam sounds good. mmm

Orangeblossom78 · 14/03/2020 18:14

If friends isolating maybe could ring them up perhaps

Callybrid · 14/03/2020 18:16
