I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

I’m a longish-time lurker on Mumsnet. I don’t post much - I don’t have kids, so often feel I don’t have anything constructive to add, but I do like the wide range of topics on here that have provided valuable info over time.

I just wanted to pop my head round the door to say “hi” and “thanks” for these threads. Various other threads haven’t got me worried, apart from the fact that I might have a coronary by how cross I’m getting with the level of armchair pontificating!

So thank you all with your rational and funny posts, cute pets, scenic photos and wonderfully descriptive posts of the few springs days we’ve had recently. I am fairly isolated in life anyway for a few medical reasons, but feel blessed that these have not had an impact on my mental health, but am pleased that these threads are hopefully helping others.

Keep up the great work (and definitely the cute pet photos please!)

estherfrewen · 12/03/2020 20:30

We are sat round as a family watching favourite songs on YouTube. No one is allowed to criticise anyone else’s choices. Currently playing Demi’s Roussos. Beats watching the news! And I’ve made my coffee Irish. Am feeling much happier!

HonestlyItsFine · 12/03/2020 20:30

I'm not a lover of Boris, or the Tories in general, but I do believe that they will listen to the scientists and follow their advice, if only because they want to be reelected- and how they handle this will be quite influential.
So I am feeling hopeful tonight.
The person on BBC news who said they believe 5-10 thousand people may have had or have this was also strangely reassuring! It means that for the vast majority it's just a short illness.

estherfrewen · 12/03/2020 20:31

I will say at work I feel everyone is being much nicer and more considerate to each other. All in this together kind of spirit

Orangeblossom78 · 12/03/2020 20:33

I am glad of this thread and people being, in general, kind and understanding. The rest of the topic area is a difficult place at the moment, very high drama and emotions. It is good to have a more
calm area as well. Flowers

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/03/2020 20:34

I’m glad I have found this thread - I had got myself a bit freaked out by the news this evening. I’m not worried about the virus, but about however many more weeks we’ve got of doom-laden coronavirus news stories, and I’m also a bit worried that life may be difficult and more chaotic until this all settles.

Rationally, I know I am being stupid - please slap me upside the head and tell me how silly I am being.

I have eaten a lot of sweet and sour pork to cheer myself up.

AutumnRose1 · 12/03/2020 20:35

NoRoomInBed consider yourself slapped

Not something I expected to say on here....

Now where’s my wine and biccies? Grin

KnottyAndPistey · 12/03/2020 20:38

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius you are in the right place my love x

KnottyAndPistey · 12/03/2020 20:42

When our kittens arrived 13 years ago, the kids were allowed to name one each after something they loved, so my son named him Biscuits, because he did and still does love biscuits Grin

Our girl cat is named Rose after the character Billie Piper played in Dr Who at the time. I find a pic...

Sadly we only had two, because if I'd had a kitten to name I'd have called it Bombay Gordons, or just Juniper!

@AutumnRose1 thank you 🍷🍪

Alsohuman · 12/03/2020 20:47

I’m finding all the doom and gloom far more depressing than the virus. Can you imagine what MN would have been like if the Internet had been invented when Spanish flu was doing the rounds?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/03/2020 20:48

@KnottyAndPistey - our cat is nicknamed CatBastard - because he picks on the dog, and bites us if the mood takes him. He does have a proper name, and he is becoming less bastardly as he ages, but he will always be CatBastard to us.

AutumnRose1 · 12/03/2020 20:54

These cat names are all fab!

Someaddedsugar · 12/03/2020 20:54

Thank you for starting these threads.

I have no idea what's happened to me as I'm generally a rational and level-headed person and I wouldn't say I was easily freaked however tonight I'm in hysterical tears and feel incredibly anxious about my DS and my grandmother with no real explanation or justification and I'm quite concerned my ability to be rational has disappeared.

Sometimes I really wish I didn't watch the news/read the press!

Your threads have really helped me to try and put this into perspective and hopefully a good sleep will help me calm down!

Kittypillar · 12/03/2020 21:01

Another one joining the thread - thank you all so much for making me feel a lot calmer. I'm nearly 30 weeks pregnant at the moment and I've found all of the news on this so mentally exhausting and frightening.

I'm trying to enjoy playtime at home with the toddler and focusing on nesting a bit, if I somehow find the energy from somewhere! I also have a box of 48 Creme eggs that I'm working my way through. Actually, it's probably closer to 20 now...

dappledsunshine · 12/03/2020 21:02

I really do think a positive will come out of this. It feels like people are becoming more community minded and just generally nice to each other.

Here is my contribution to the cute pet gallery 🐱

Hi all. Have struggled a bit today, mostly after hearing their declaration that the peak will come in 10-14 weeks...I'm due my C section in 10 weeks. And whilst I'm not worried about getting it,I am worried about the impact the NHS may have on my birth...long story short, last birth was 10 years ago, incredibly traumatic, I'd found a type of delivery that I was actually looking forward to and excited about...and now I'm worried about staff shortages, worried about the handgel being stolen and not enough masks being available for the procedure, worried about staff being seconded to other areas of the hospital.
Anyway,I KNOW this is the positive thread so I'm putting on my rational head and then my cousin's posted this...what a lovely story and installed my faith in humanity after seeing all this idiots stockpiling toilet roll and hand gel

I stupidly ventured out into the rabbit hole of coronavirus threads. I will wrap myself back up in the safety blanket of this thread.

kitk · 12/03/2020 21:21

A medical friend shared this on Facebook today. I've screenshotted it to my phone for mad moments

I’m feeling very scared tonight. Have tried to be logical and measured about it but everything just seems like a lot right now. Worried for my parents, and my sisters who are both front line nhs workers. Worried for my friend who is exhibiting some symptoms. Hopefully tomorrow will be better (am quite possibly having some serious PMT!). Sorry to bring the thread down, it is very helpful

Bloodybackpain · 12/03/2020 21:27

I saw something on insta that said when you can only see a crescent moon, that’s not to say it’s not all there, you can’t see it all and it’s just a phase - gives me hope

Also I’ve seen our local pubs will deliver food to elderly for free in some cases - v heartening

Furries · 12/03/2020 21:29

Loving the cat photos and alternative names! I have two who’s alternative names are Little Legs and Handsome (though my mum calls him a very rude name as he hates everyone apart from me).

I saw something the other day where a lady, who’s now in her seventies, was reunited with her cat who went missing 11 years ago. She hadn’t been able to bring herself to get another one. Here’s to them enjoying being reunited!

Furries · 12/03/2020 21:31

@kitk - brilliant, I am going to screen shot that too (corrected from screen shit!)
