I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

Have just been trying to explain to stroppy teen DD that if the schools are closed to limit spread and we're all being asked to work from home, that she won't be taking it as a two week (or more) holiday to hang out with her friends, have sleepovers, go shopping and grab lunch at McDonald's. She's not impressed.

Add coronavirus to the long list of things which are all mum's fault!

Health UK are releasing guidance to help with mental health issues resulting from coronovirus

Millie “ I’ve just run a support group for vulnerable people, in the sense of immunity.”

Interesting. I’m high risk and looking at MN makes me think I’m the only one being casual.

Love the dog cone cartoon.

You're not alone, I promise you.

I just don't see the point of getting myself into a tearing scrow about it all before I absolutely have to. It hasn't reached "I have to" yet. It may never do so -- and if it doesn't I would feel a proper twerp for having made a huge unnecessary fuss, wouldn't I?

Alsohuman · 12/03/2020 17:59

We’re being casual too, despite the bloke having asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure. We reckon if he gets it at least the GP will prescribe some paracetamol because we can’t buy any!

Asking ooh, thanks, a new phrase for me.

Well this is something to see

I saw something really positive on the BBC news website from the Italian health minister:

"Two weeks after the first 10 towns in northern Italy were declared a "red zone" and put under lockdown, he said they had no new infections. This then served as a model to tighten measures across the country."

NO NEW INFECTIONS. That's great news.

Millie2013 · 12/03/2020 19:17

That’s fab news, Pineapple. Thank you for sharing

Laniakea · 12/03/2020 19:23

hello everyone! I'm a refugee from the lunatic thread ...

Iheartbaby · 12/03/2020 19:24

If that’s true that is really positive news,

Laniakea · 12/03/2020 19:25

...weird that irl I'm considered the one who is worrying too much!

madeyemoodysmum · 12/03/2020 19:31

I wish Boris followed that advise from Italy pineapple. Feeling very down this evening.

My lunch with friends tomorrow is off and I was really looking forward to it. Sad

Jrobhatch29 · 12/03/2020 19:38

Thats amazing about no new infections. I wish our country was doing more but the two scientists do seem to make sense. Mind i was fully expecting my kids to be off school x

Canshopwillshop · 12/03/2020 20:02

@laniakea - hi, here’s a blanket and a hot chocolate, welcome to the thread.

PineappleDanish · 12/03/2020 20:08

I don't trust BoJo as far as I could throw him, but I do trust the scientists. They're the ones with the PhDs and the medical degrees and the years of study. I'm not arrogant enough to think that with my O grade in Chemistry from 1987 that I can match their knowledge.

So all we can do is follow their advice.

Teen DD is now even stroppier as she has tickets to see Harry Styles in Glasgow at the end of April and it may not go ahead. However I am delighted as I was due to take her. Every cloud has a silver lining.

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/03/2020 20:12

I'm a scientist working in the field of healthcare (no involvement whatsoever with this I should add) but it does make me proud of the work my fellow scientists are doing all over the world to tackle this disease. Go scientists!

Iheartbaby · 12/03/2020 20:12

Thanks pineapple and thanks for the link Scarlett that has made me feel a lot more positive this evening

Alsohuman · 12/03/2020 20:16

Thank you for the link, that very good news.

itsallaboutschmoo · 12/03/2020 20:20

Oh god I needed this thread. Feel like I'm losing my mind and the crazy thread just makes me feel worse and worse! I actually think Mumsnet is worse than the newspapers sometimes.

After a horrible work day where I did nothing but wind myself up I have come home to cuddle my cat and I'm having 'breakfast for dinner' including my favourite hash browns. Small things.

Gemm83 · 12/03/2020 20:23

I would like to know whether the Govt are willing to pay for my new ensuite? Its states in their guidance that an infected person should have their own bathroom facilities where possible. I've been looking for an excuse to convince DH to extend!! 😂
