magimedi · 10/03/2020 09:44

I hope that RapidRainbow does not mind me starting Part II of the thread - if you do let me know & I'll ask for it to be deleted.

It would just be a shame to not carry on as this is such a positive place.

Part I is here:

I'm struggling with this mentally.

I work in a private hospital and even mentioning cv is starting to make me feel emotional

AnotherDayInTheTrenches · 12/03/2020 21:35

I've name changed for this (and will name change back after!) as I don't like to discuss work on the internet.
I work in the NHS, on an acute ward. (non nursing but still patient contact). I am trying very hard to keep calm. I am teetering on asking to be moved to an office based role- but doubt there are any to move to! There is so much misinformation and paranoia being thrown around it's hard to find any real facts. But the stats and links in this thread are super useful, thank you.
(and so reassuring to see so many of the public using the hand sanitiser and washing their hands!)

AnotherDayInTheTrenches · 12/03/2020 21:37

@Franklymydearidontgiveadam: yep. It's the sheer volume of news/talk etc. This is a positive thread, so I will leave it at that.
I have a few days off now, so will use that time to do some positive activities and try to reassure myself! Got some reading to catch up on, for a start!

Franklymydearidontgiveadam · 12/03/2020 21:44

Same with the patient contact too. I'm only in tomorrow then off for the weekend..

The one thing keeping me relaxed is work looks more like a hotel than a hosp so it feels calmer.

Desperate for a day off so I'll be knee deep in vino tomorrow night.

AutumnRose1 · 12/03/2020 21:54

Ive been surprised to find, from this thread, how many people gets news alerts etc. I definitely think the news must be making it more stressful.

Keep calm and carry on. Or did Churchill say “Keep Buggering On”? My boss claims he did and says “KBO” a lot. I bet that’s not listed on any management courses! 😂

kitk · 12/03/2020 22:00

@furries pls share if you want. Friend said I can. It really made me feel a bit better. My dad also posted a crappy joke on Facebook that made me smile but won't post here cos outing... message me if you'd like a private screenshot tho. 😊 ps- please don't shit on your screen- Coronavirus has been found in some fecal samples 😘

HeIenaDove · 12/03/2020 22:19

I had my cut and colour today too (roots done) and treated myself to a lovely caramel latte in Kaspas Desserts afterwards.

RapidRainbow · 12/03/2020 22:23

Two things I wanted to mention -

  1. UK think 5000 - 10,000 cases is our true figure right now. That means lots of MILD and Asymptomatic cases.
  1. As tempting as it is, I'd avoid alcohol right now - it will make you feel better until the next day when everything will feel 100 times worse with the wine-xiety!
Riv12345 · 12/03/2020 22:24

I work in a very busy hospital

I'm really anxious about it I always get more anxious in the evening and at night

Furries · 12/03/2020 22:27

@kitk - I will definitely try not to do that! Only happens if I’m talking out of my arse, which hopefully isn’t too often (disclaimer - others may disagree 🤣)

purpleme12 · 12/03/2020 22:27

I'm feeling terrified
I appreciate any animal videos, photos, cute distractions

HonestlyItsFine · 12/03/2020 22:28

Some positive thinking- even if we have 5000 cases (very likely)- then we have just 10% of that who are unwell enough to be tested, and a much, much lower % of that (I assume, no numbers available) who need hospital treatment.

Flowers to all healthcare staff. The government better remember you all next budget

ShootEmUpSarsaparilla · 12/03/2020 22:31

I need to swing in here.
I’m not scared of catching it. I’m terrified of all the shit that’s going to come with it.

Flyingpurplepeopleeater · 12/03/2020 22:43

Is there any way I can access only this thread?? If the peak isn't expected til june/July I cant deal with the level of panic for the next 3 months. I might have to leave MN (again)

RapidRainbow · 12/03/2020 22:50

I just type 'ii' on my address bar and it suggest this topic. I don't see anything else unless I leave here deliberately.

HonestlyItsFine · 12/03/2020 22:50

There are instructions for hiding certain topics here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/1248206-How-to-hide-certain-topics

I assume that since you posted on this thread, it will appear on active threads.

SummerHouse · 12/03/2020 22:52

A breath of fresh air amid the madness.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/03/2020 22:56

Have struggled ... after hearing their declaration that the peak will come in 10-14 weeks

Though trying to stay positive, this is what I just don't get - after all, most of China's outbreak came, happened and largely went in less time than that

So given England isn't even shutting things to protect us, why are they reckoning on such a long timescale before it all descends?

I love following this story of Dean, who picked up a stray cat (Nala) on the side of the road whilst cycling around the world. They've even got a book coming out soon!

Anyone got any good hand cream suggestions? Home made or otherwise? My super cleaned hand felt weird so I put a squirt of hand cream on and it stung and went a bit red. It's calmed down a bit now but I'd rather not have it happen.

tobee · 12/03/2020 23:19

I probably should have asked a bit earlier than bedtime Confused

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/03/2020 23:30

I am using Dermol Cream -- expensive, and from pharmacies only, but a minute amount does my hands all over. I mean less than the amount of toothpaste you are supposed to use, so a bit squeezed out about half the size of a pea. Dry your hands first, then rub it in and leave it: it's not oily so it doesn't feel strange.

It's meant for dry facial skin, or at least that was what I was given it for originally, but it works on hands as well.

Alternatively, ask a pharmacist what he recommends for dry skin!

tobee · 12/03/2020 23:45

Thanks @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime ! Smile

peoplepleaser1 · 13/03/2020 00:03

I have used Diprobase in the past. It's like a warm hug for my eczema prone skin.

I asked the chemist and he happily sold some to me.

peoplepleaser1 · 13/03/2020 00:08

Today has been tough. I'd like to suggest to everyone that tomorrow they: drink plenty of water, take in some fresh air, try to notice the emerging signs of spring, take deep breaths when they feel anxious and chat too someone IRL about how they feel.

This too will pass.
