Yes @theflushedzebra, my DH London office is closed due to connection with a confirmed case. Just announced this morning. V relieved as he commutes up there from Cornwall once a fortnight or so.

I WFH / self-employed consultant.

And my DS is home as his school is closed (special school / vulnerable kids / connection with a case). just my DD still out there in the wide world.

@Kuponut If I was you I would tell a lecturer. Because of the placements if nothing else.

Frothybothie · 09/03/2020 12:30

magicrainbowbeans · 09/03/2020 12:30

*PHE NOT Peak

Number12 · 09/03/2020 12:30

I'm not sure who the guy is from the department of culture is who has been doing the rounds is but he's really getting on my nerves! Definitely from the 'do nothing and wash your hands brigade' 🙄

Agreed. He look dead in the eyes. Slight glint when spoke of being at the rugby with the pm at Twickenham.....Pop along darling.

AvocadoOwl · 09/03/2020 12:30

Wish my husbands employer would do that @theflushedzebra! He's still commuting on the tube every day. International trips for meetings etc were cancelled a few weeks back at least.

magicrainbowbeans · 09/03/2020 12:31

Sorry that sounds ridiculously garbled

theflushedzebra · 09/03/2020 12:31

Private company - financial sector - investments/trading - he does the IT. I'll have to ask him what all the traders are going to do?!

Cheeseismylife · 09/03/2020 12:31

Just had a text from family in France.
Apparently it is recommended on the news there to peel all fruit and vegetables because people with coronavirus might have touched them before you bought them.
I am sceptical that peeling will help, since you'll probably just end up contaminating your hands, knives, peeler etc anyway.

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/03/2020 12:34

I went a bit ott with dettol wipes last night on the Sainsbury's delivery Blush

Mumbled to driver that they were for work, which to be fair, dh will be taking some in to his office and I will be too as I'm a teacher.

We've not manage to get anything till now. Of course, then dettol will announce they don't work...

thesunwillout · 09/03/2020 12:34

@Number12

As I said turnip!!

Skyejuly · 09/03/2020 12:34

You can wash veg in milton.

My mum works at Southampton hospital. Shes 5hrs from me so I worry.

magicrainbowbeans · 09/03/2020 12:34

That should have been :

My Union (Unison) has advised we should ask our employer (large public organisation) about any steps to take with regard to colleagues travelling to and from northern Italy

Nothing the union can or will do, and they advise against taking any action without management agreement.

The union support the employer position, and say all the employer can do is to follow PHE advice, which is to self isolate if you've been to one of 10 Italian towns.

If employees choose to leave work, including work from home, because the person sat next to them just returned from Northern Italy, they will be seen as at fault Not the colleague who returned from Italy.

SirVixofVixHall · 09/03/2020 12:34

Re incubation, there is a schoolboy who has just tested positive after isolating for two weeks, going back into school at the end of last week, and then falling ill. So I am not sure that I believe two weeks is enough.

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 12:36

Helpful @magicrainbowbeans
Thank you for this perspective on colleague position within employment with Unison.

My husband's a postman, no working from home for him.
He has some sanitizer and is using that every 30 mins but apart from that there is nothing he can do.

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 12:38

Can you have your pp deleted?

It does read very differently, having just read the latest one which is really clear.

Very Hmm that it's in favour of the traveller to italy!

Sorry that was to @magicrainbowbeans

Kuponut · 09/03/2020 12:39

We have to be in lectures with someone who just got back from northern Italy - no support from uni at all... just suck it up.

Saucery · 09/03/2020 12:39

Unison are generally a bit useless. No way will they ever back up an employee on this.

WouldShouldCould · 09/03/2020 12:40

If the recommendation is to close schools I imagine the information will be shared when children are at home (so next weekend?) to prevent panicked parents going into school.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/03/2020 12:40

I suppose Italy will leap frog South Korea with case numbers today? When did South Korea close their schools?

seasmize · 09/03/2020 12:40

There is a new medical paper out that estimates that 35-78% of cases in two separate places, Singapore and Tianjin (China), were the result of pre-symptomatic transmission.

www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.05.20031815v1

So the U.K. authorities refusing to test contacts of confirmed cases who were exposed before the case was symptomatic is garbage.

I really don’t understand where they got that info from. China reported very early on that they were seeing symptomatic transmission.

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 12:40

Alone is he wearing gloves? And cleaning his 'sign for' screen with alcohol wipes after each customer use?

That would break the infection touch transmission cycle.
