fedup21 · 09/03/2020 10:33

That Reddit article!?!?!

If that’s true, the speaker of the house is saying if one case is found in parliament, she wants to shut parliament down for 3 months, yet there’s no mention of schools at all?!

Or workplaces?

I think they’ll be be huge public discontent if parliament shut down but expect the rest of us to carry on as normal!

Peacocking · 09/03/2020 10:33

Donenow - I think huge numbers of pet and commercial animals died in china for that reason. Not sure if the uk would be more accommodating. Hopefully so.

Is it London the city with the most cases here so far? I think so...

ofwarren · 09/03/2020 10:35

There are no declared cases on the channel Islands just yet but they declare at 2pm every day on Jersey

Any advice on travel to Sweden?

Going with my partner and 4 y/o on weekend. The airports must be full of it

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 09/03/2020 10:36

Swiss border isn’t closed because the Swiss need the Italian workers who commute across.

Most of their hospital staff come from Italy.,

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 10:37

I dont think that's a stupid thought at all @Donenow1

Advice I've seen so far if having to self-isolate are for others to walk dogs etc.

Same for large animals, set up social support groups to tend to others animals in addition to your own if you get sick. Like you usually would.

Yes I have seen multiple people on here when talking about self isolation say things like - DH could not cope if he could not go out for a run, so he would still do it when it was quiet. Or we could all go out for a walk when it is quiet. If people reading coronavirus threads here won't properly self isolate, I do wonder how many people who need to self isolate really are doing so.

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 10:38

You take your own risks Hello

Look to GPs or 111 for travel advice, and geneal points to consider in the OP

Guernsey also declare at 2pm as they are processed in the UK.
They currently have 9 tests that they haven't got the results of.

SistemaAddict · 09/03/2020 10:39

Any advice for those travelling back from Spain in the last 2 weeks? I've not heard anything but just want to check as we've got family saying they'll visit mum and they've just come back from there.

alloutoffucks · 09/03/2020 10:41

Farmers tend to have livestock on their farms where they live. So they could put notices on gates telling walkers not to enter the land and still tend to their animals.

chillychicken · 09/03/2020 10:41

@burntpinky Thanks for confirming. I'll speak to the team later today, we may have to cancel the trip.

NEW: CNN says it will now refer to coronavirus as a pandemic: "[It] clearly meets the definition, so CNN will start using that term. It is a pandemic" t.co/DQo8C2WdpP

Is it London the city with the most cases here so far? I think so...

Not surprising if so as it has by far the largest number of inhabitants.

Wehttam Bats are mucky little reservoirs of all sorts. The huge Ebola outbreak of a few years ago had a strong possibility of being linked back to a bat. Bats are known carriers of corona viruses (of various sorts) and were the origin of the 2002 SARS outbreak, and linked to MERS. Honestly, this virus being linked to bats is the least strange part of it.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 10:42

If someone was self isolating and went for a run / walk, using hand gel or gloves before touching doors etc, how would that spread it though? If you had no social contact.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 09/03/2020 10:42

Problem is, they haven't sealed off the zone rosse. Materially they could never seal off an area that big. Domestic flights are still coming and so are trains.
People who have come down from there are being told they MUST notify. But where is the manpower to check that?
Bars and pubs are being told to close early, and (I've just come back from town centre) all small shops etc have a notice outside and are only letting a few people in at a time. Town is as busy as it ever is in the morning, and walking through I saw at least 10 people going up to friends/family and kissing, heard a woman on the phone saying "let's all go together in our car, we can fit 6 in" and too many grandmothers to count surrounded by kids and saying "come and hold granny's hand" "give granny a big kiss" etc. I got to the big supermarket and there were no restrictions on how many in at a time and we were all as squashed in the queue for the tills as we usually are.

Someone upthread also mentioned schools being closed since 23rd Feb- only in zona rossa. The rest of the schools only closed last Thursday.

It's just the way it is. You could take it up with the judge.

I think they are letting it run.
They haven't said they will close schools or stop events.
I was pretty convinced they would do.

I think that might be ok with less deadly or less catching virus and also all those req 3w in hospital.

Also I find this stage very confusing.
We are contain but it's not contained and we didn't restrict travel to contain it away from us.
We will move to delay but make no effort to delay either.

We are concerned enough to try to stop hcp getting it but we all need to get it to get herd immunity.

we are trying to delay but letting kids to back to school where there was a case.

I guess only a point to any of that if it changed outcome. if we will never have enough beds anyway it's less relevant how too few.
