The thought of getting on a cruise ship right now! Are people really doing this? Seriously if someone offered me £100000 it would be thanks but No!

middleager · 04/03/2020 22:21

I posted earlier about the MSC Opera cruise ship and how the 2k plys passengers have been ordered back on board after a former passenger tested positive.

Cruise ships are (excuse the pun) a perfect storm for CV.

usernameishistory · 04/03/2020 22:22

I just cant keep up!!

Ive just finished reading thread 10, and completely missed 11!!

GPs literally not allowed to test for cv19

I was shook!

itwaseverthus · 04/03/2020 22:24

As another poster here said, I just cannot understand how this virus is spread. Handwashing I understand but it almost seems as though people are getting ill by being within feet of affected people, without even a sneeze or cough. It feels wrong to me that this has been explained like a virus spreading by coughs and sneezes. I feel like I've woken up in a nightmare frankly. I don't believe we are being told nearly enough, or anything like the truth.

SuDaji · 04/03/2020 22:25

I work in an outpatients department and live with an immunocompromised person so I am bricking it. And to top it off one of the new NI cases is a student who has been "mingling" at university since their return from Italy! We're buggered I think.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/03/2020 22:27

Good grief, @AvocadoOwl I really hadn't heard about that one!! I checked Princess's own website before posting, too, and I see now it's been shoved into a secondary link and even then worded in very mealy-mouthed terms

I apologise to you too, @LEELULUMPKIN, for sending wrong information; I really didn't mean to do that, and I hope it all works out okay for your BFF

And on a side note, I'm beginning to understand why I keep getting emails from Princess with some pretty amazing offers Hmm

mammon · 04/03/2020 22:27

I don't know if this has already been posted but the latest two confirmed cases are patients of the King's College.

Sassenach85 · 04/03/2020 22:28

Well I think a lot of people feel that we are all going to get it so let’s just face it, but nobody is giving us any info! Nothing from the govt and nothing from the patients .... I have a really bad feeling about this I can’t explain

AbsentmindedWoman · 04/03/2020 22:28

The Manhattan lawyer who is seriously ill has connections to 10 other infected people.

They don't know where the lawyer got it so I wonder if he passed it to the others, or one of them gave it to him? As far as I know it was only discovered because he got so sick.

I hope the others all have a mild version. His wife and two kids are positive Sad

usernameishistory · 04/03/2020 22:28

We are buggered, as transmission is being kept secret, and testing is not allowed (other than the 100 sampling)

JollyHostess · 04/03/2020 22:28

Thanks @mammon, @KenAdams and others.
There's every chance that if not for this thread he would have had a frustrating trip to Heathrow tomorrow . I am very grateful to Mumsnet tonight!

itwaseverthus · 04/03/2020 22:28

Although on another, more positive note, I was showing my ds tonight Dr John Campbell's youtube video How to Wash Your Hands. After it was over, he hugged me and said mum, I felt very tender watching you there, you were copying what he did to show me what to do. I just so want all our children to be ok.

mymigraine · 04/03/2020 22:28

"itwaseverthus" think when you breathe bits of moisture from your lungs get into the air

middleager · 04/03/2020 22:28

It's not about where the cruise ship's going though. It's about
2k people - many of who will be aged 60 plus - confined in a floating hotel - sharing close living quarters, sharing buffets...

Cruise ships have been breeding grounds for the likes of Noro. CV would love this one.

mymigraine · 04/03/2020 22:29

that was meant to be bold

KenAdams · 04/03/2020 22:29

Yeah the Manchester to Exeter one was a bit odd, no one was expecting that to go but the announcement should be made officially after those planes have touched down. Going by airline groups for this info btw - I don't have any insider knowledge.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 22:30

Slovenia reports first case of coronavirus t.co/eUoE2b20hL

mymigraine · 04/03/2020 22:30

I think people cough, bite nails then touch things a lot though

Sassenach85 · 04/03/2020 22:30

Have I missed any info from patients online? YouTube? Survivors of Coronavirus ?

usernameishistory · 04/03/2020 22:30

Has it already been said that testing is not allowed, where was thread 11?

Did that get eaten up? Confused

(Perhaps it went into isolation)

Konicek007 · 04/03/2020 22:32

.

middleager · 04/03/2020 22:32

Here you go Sass An account from somebody who describes it as the worst disease of their life.
Only 25.

www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html

itwaseverthus · 04/03/2020 22:34

Thanks mymigraine so it's incredibly virulent! So handwashing just seems like a distraction to make us feel we are doing something frankly. I could walk into a room, touch nothing and no one and walk out, with the disease. My gut says this is more sinister than we are being told, as in biological weapon. I realise I have absolutely nothing to base that on other than a hunch but that's fear for you.

HeIenaDove · 04/03/2020 22:35

Local Boots completely sells out of hand sanitiser by 10am. So no joy there this afternoon. They were restricting them to one per customer , Superdrug had them by the till and were restricting them to two per customer. I bought one for me and one for DH , The couple behind me each tried to buy two each in two separate transactions but Superdrug wernt having any of it.

Sainsburys were all out of antibacterial hand wash but i usually buy this anyway so have a couple at home.

Sainsburys here have also put a couple of bottles of hand wash in their toilets.

AbsentmindedWoman · 04/03/2020 22:35

Handwashing I understand but it almost seems as though people are getting ill by being within feet of affected people, without even a sneeze or cough.

Is this happening though? Is it not more likely that mildly afflicted people ("I just have a cold") are shedding virus onto train poles, door handles, public loos, and it's spreading this way?

As we can see from the denial on this forum, loads of people are not taking this seriously in the main.

Someone spat on the floor inside of a subway car in front of my wife the other day. The girl beside him was eating Cheetos and licking her fingers before holding the pole. A man coughed directly in my face, no attempt whatsoever to even cover it with his hand.
