Would you cope with quarantine?

ludothedog · 25/02/2020 23:15

Just that really, if we were all told to stay home and self quarantine for two weeks, how would you and your family cope?

DD would be fine as long as she had her tablet
I would be fine for a few days but would start to get stir crazy after that
Would probably have enough food to last 2 weeks - might just be plain pasta and rice by the end, but we would survive.

Darbs76 · 26/02/2020 19:08

I’d love it, the dog wouldn’t. Kids wouldn’t mind I don’t think. As long as the wifi works. Ordered some long life milk just incase! I need my tea

Horehound · 26/02/2020 19:08

I think I'd find it a bit too easy!

Ilovemycatssomuch · 26/02/2020 19:11

I’d be in my element

mumto2teenagers · 26/02/2020 19:14

I wouldn’t mind it but think DH would hate it

iklboo · 26/02/2020 19:16

I can WFH do I'd be fine. DH is self employed though so we'd lose £££.

DressingGownofDoom · 26/02/2020 19:16

I'd probably quite enjoy it but DS wouldn't. DH would put the dressing gown of doom on and wallow around for a couple of weeks.

bellinisurge · 26/02/2020 19:17

So food and things like loo roll all sorted then? @DressingGownofDoom

DressingGownofDoom · 26/02/2020 19:18

@bellinisurge might need to do a grocery shop. I wonder if the Chinese would still be open?

LizziesTwin · 26/02/2020 19:19

I would hate it. I don’t like spending the whole day in the house, I need to go out & I need to see different people. I think it would drive me crazy.

thecatsthecats · 26/02/2020 19:25

WFH, books, Internet, gym stuff...

I think I'd get bored, but I'd get an awful lot sorted in the house so it'd be worth it

Aragog · 26/02/2020 19:26

At home - yes.

I could organise home delivery for food. If they are unwilling to have me open the door, they can leave it on the doorstep and I can go out at a time where the street is deserted to take it in. I've missed the odd Ocado delivery before due to travel delays and they've been happy to leave it in the garden 'at my own risk' so that's fine.
My medication can be delivered by post.

My job means I can't work from home for very much though.
DH could work from home though may need a colleague to post the off file through the letterbox.
DD could get some decent A level revision done - I'm sure she'd love that with her parents around to keep an eye on what's she's doing ;)

I have had the odd times when I have been housebound for a week, fortnight or more due to having had an OP or being very poorly. Though on those occasions DH and dd were in and out and kept things moving with the outside world at those times.

I assume DC would still be allowed to play on their scooters etc in the garden/street?!

Self isolation means inside afaik. Maybe send them out into the garden for half an hour or so under cover of darkness when everyone nearby are safely inside.

ohnooutofdateham · 26/02/2020 19:27

I think a cough or sneeze can reach 6foot so if you're in your own garden and no one would be within 6 foot of you then that would be fine I'd think?

InglouriousBasterd · 26/02/2020 19:28

Yes! I work from home so that’s sorted. Food delivery left at door. Sit in garden for air. Netflix and books.

namechangetheworld · 26/02/2020 19:34

I would LOVE it if I was alone.

Unfortunately DH, DD4 and DD1 and I all cooped up in a small house together would drive me to distraction.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/02/2020 19:36

Technically I can wfh but I would rather be in the office.

I am quite outgoing/sociable so would miss seeing friends but would catch up on Netflix, books etc.
Dh is usually quite introverted. However he broke his leg a few weeks ago and so had a forced period of being stuck at home an he hated it. He usually runs and cycles a few times a week so got very frustrated.

I think I would cope ok aslong as I could get into our garden for fresh air and could go for bike rides - obviously I couldn't stop off anywhere.

I would have hated to be stuck on that cruise ship

DingleberryRose · 26/02/2020 19:41

I’d LOVE it! Grin

CorianderLord · 26/02/2020 19:41

Yes. I have a kindle and a laptop. It wouldn't be fun but If I was with my partner we'd be ok. Plus I could do with losing the weight

CorianderLord · 26/02/2020 19:44

Oh and we have a roof terrace so could go outside

greasyspooncafe · 26/02/2020 19:46

Would we be allowed to go for walks from the house?

SisterAgatha · 26/02/2020 21:23

I’d think so. I pass maybe 5 houses before I’m in the woods and they have large front gardens well set back from the road. I never pass anyone or see anyone over there. You have to cross a railway track, it’s london but pretty remote. Just to stretch the legs I’d imagine would be ok. Depends on the location, if you lived in a flat definitely not. Ones with lifts especially etc you must never press the buttons with your own hands because everyone would be touching those!

ByeMF · 26/02/2020 21:35

I'd absolutely love it. As long as there's WiFi the kids would be ok. And I'm separated so no DH to get on my nerves. My Brexit stocks are now the Corona virus stocks. As soon as the next payday comes around I'm getting more non perishables. Plus extra gin. As long as none of us are actually I'll it would be bloomin' lovely. I appreciate that for anyone without private outdoor space it would be awful though.

EnidBlyton · 26/02/2020 21:37

my dog would go crazy, i am sure i could still walk her, pretty remote areas

Bloodybridget · 26/02/2020 21:38

I'd absolutely hate to be stuck indoors for two weeks.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 26/02/2020 21:52

I would hate hate hate it even though we live out in the sticks with a big garden and neighbours fields to walk dogs in - my horse is in livery a few miles away & I'd miss her to bits - DS & DH would cope much better as long as WIFI available - we would have to do a SERIOUS food & supply shop tho - nothing much in atm 👀

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/02/2020 22:04

I'd hate it. I'm an extrovert and that long without being around other people would drive me insane.

Practically I'd struggle too, as I don't keep enough food in for more than a week and I wouldn't be able to make ends meet if I had to take all that time off work unpaid.
