Would you cope with quarantine?

Just that really, if we were all told to stay home and self quarantine for two weeks, how would you and your family cope?

DD would be fine as long as she had her tablet
I would be fine for a few days but would start to get stir crazy after that
Would probably have enough food to last 2 weeks - might just be plain pasta and rice by the end, but we would survive.

Yes provided i could get a food delivery! If the 3 year old is not fed every waking second he turns feral. Being quarantined with him hungry would have me begging to get it.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 25/02/2020 23:44

I’m confused about the online food shopping and delivery's tbh. If everyone had to go into quarenteen for 2 weeks surely that would apply to shop workers too so wouldn’t all the shops be shut?

I’d be fine but all the animals at work might die though if theres no-one to go in and take care of them!! Confused

Purpleartichoke · 25/02/2020 23:48

I am perfectly fine being home for two weeks. I’m a homebody by nature. I also telecommute already so would not be impacted economically.

But I would run into real problems with my required medication and food would be interesting because I don’t keep a lot of non-perishables around.

If I could have things delivered, a quarantine would be no big deal.

CuteOrangeElephant · 25/02/2020 23:48

I work from home so for me it wouldn't be much different. I think we could just about survive for 2 weeks on the food we have in the house.

My toddler would go mental. She has to go outside whatever the weather or she becomes an even worse sleeper. My DH would relish not having to go to the park though Grin .

TheChosenTwo · 25/02/2020 23:49

If I was quarantined on my own but with all my home comforts I’d be in my absolute element! Fire, books, food. I don’t need much more in life!!
However if I were in quarantine with my family I think there’d be a murder between dh and I Grin he’s a ‘do’er and I’m not. Also, ds would drive us all nuts within one day. He’s like a dog, needing regular exercise to avoid him literally bouncing off the walls. We have a trampoline in the garden and if necessary we could have good fun setting up obstacle courses etc. His older sisters would also enjoy doing indoor projects and things with him. We would play a LOT of board games.
However, if it came to it, other than needing some extra food and drink supplies we’d cope just fine really.

Bonkerz · 25/02/2020 23:54

Friends son just got back from Italy and has had to self quarantine (was for work and work have told him he has to!)
After a mad dash to the shops for him he's now dreading two weeks alone in his house.

maddening · 25/02/2020 23:57

Dh works from home, I can work from home, as long as we had. Internet, utilities and home food delivery we would be fine. As long as ds has books and the xbox he is fine. My exercise would suffer. - I would have to do dvds in the garage and the lady that does the cleaning would not be able to come so would have to do own cleaning.

You could get an ocado delivery left outside. 25% off a case of vino atm

LaurieFairyCake · 25/02/2020 23:59

IT WOULD BE AMAZING !

I would be dancing round in my pants, tidying shit, reading books I never get a chance to go, I'd drink gallons of tea and gin

BEST HOLIDAY EVER (disclaimer: as long as I don't cark it)

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 25/02/2020 23:59

I'd have massive cabin fever for want of a far better expression. Hopefully my basic needs would be met like food deliveries etc (and i mean basics like not my usual supermarket shop). And there'd be wifi and tv. So I'd cope. I'd just hate it.

RAOK · 26/02/2020 00:03

I love being at home but I would miss going for walks in the fresh air by the river and my gym classes. I would read most of the time, watch Netflix, cook and bake lots of delicious things, sort and organise, nap, browse the internet and kill many of the hours on social media.

TypingError · 26/02/2020 00:04

I think I'd quite like it.

boatyardblues · 26/02/2020 00:04

We would play a LOT of board games.

It would give us the opportunity to have an epic Monopoly game that would settle some scores and unresolved family grudges from last October’s rainy half term week.

Provided there was wifi, TV and a ready supply of food, we’d be peachy. We are home bodies anyway and enjoy each other’s company.

We could do our annual sock cull, redecorate the living room and sort out the loft.

It would ruin everything if DH and I had to work from home, though. 😕

AlexaShutUp · 26/02/2020 00:05

With regard to deliveries/online shopping, I think it's just the difference between individuals being quarantined (because of suspected exposure to the virus) and whole towns being put into lockdown to prevent the spread. In the former scenario, I imagine that you could do your online shop as usual and just get them to leave it outside the door. In the latter scenario, the delivery people will be stuck at home too, so probably not so likely to be an option.

Notthebloodygym · 26/02/2020 00:07

I'd be fine . I would exercise by walking up and down stairs, and do a bit of gardening.

Sobeyondthehills · 26/02/2020 00:07

I think as long as everything was working it would be fine. It would give DP time to sort out his boxes from when we moved 15 months ago.

The main sufferer would be the dog, but we have an outside space and a shit ton of brain games, plus a long hall we can throw a ball down, however downstairs neighbours might want to kill us within a few days

TW2013 · 26/02/2020 00:10

As long as I had a steady supply of food I would be happy. DC would be fine too. Not sure how long dh would last. The rest of us are cats, quite happy to curl up at home in comfort. DH is a puppy who likes regular trips out.

Not sure how I would persuade ds to go out ever again though. Now he is old enough to be left we realised that he hadn't left the house in a week over Christmas. The rest of us had all popped out for one reason or another but no family outings. Would probably need a trail of electronic devices for him to follow to ease him out of the house and someone ready to shut the door behind him when he emerged into daylight.

exexpat · 26/02/2020 00:12

I would hate being cooped up for so long, and my dog would definitely be very unhappy and would make his feelings known loudly and possibly messily (I have a tiny back garden).

I probably have plenty of food and other essentials for well over a fortnight, though I would miss fresh fruit & veg if I couldn't get deliveries.

fallfallfall · 26/02/2020 00:13

it would take much much longer than two weeks for me to go stir crazy especially if food was delivered and i could putz in my own garden.

JasonBrun · 26/02/2020 00:16

Id go mental. I have to go with outside at least once a day or I start to feel strange and unsettled. DS is the same. DH wouldn't mind at all though, I'm sure he's done two weeks before just by accident.

Barbararara · 26/02/2020 00:21

This describes us exactly

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 26/02/2020 00:24

I've done it, in another country though. Got by with wine I think!

MsMD · 26/02/2020 00:26

It sounds like heaven.

DecemberSnow · 26/02/2020 00:27

As long as partner had coffee and milk he would be ok.

We live on the edge of a field with no houses, so could easily, still go outside, stretch our legs.

We would have to get a food order for milk and bread ... They can leave it outside :)

We would have enough in the fridges tho

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 26/02/2020 00:27

Surely there's a possibility of power cuts because supply maintenance teams might be quarantined or ill.

So no wifi or TV.

Or fridge/freezer, washing machine, hot water, phone charging.

Cooking!

Doesn't bear thinking about does it.

How many of us have the funds and space to mitigate that.
