Would you cope with quarantine?

Just that really, if we were all told to stay home and self quarantine for two weeks, how would you and your family cope?

DD would be fine as long as she had her tablet
I would be fine for a few days but would start to get stir crazy after that
Would probably have enough food to last 2 weeks - might just be plain pasta and rice by the end, but we would survive.

I've been thinking about this more overnight, as long as everything was working, electricity, Wifi etc, I think I'd really like it!

DH was a chef for a long time so could make some lovely food, we need to redecorate the hall stairs and landing, we could do a deep clean of the house, the children would be allowed loads of screen time which they would love, board games, reading, a walk around the garden, it would certainly be a novelty!

I can fully WFH if necessary so that would be a distraction too! Loads of 'What are you up to? Nothing. You? Nothing.' conversations with friends!

We're fortunate to not have any health conditions and a lovely home so I appreciate it wouldnt be that simple for some. But bring on the quarantine I say!

woodencoffeetable · 26/02/2020 10:44

when we were under quarantine when I was a child, we were allowed out in the garden. neighbours brought us food.

(parent was a teacher and came back from a class trip where a couple of pupils came down with meningitis)

TattiePants · 26/02/2020 10:57

We'd be ok. I work from home anyway and DH's site is currently flooded so he's working from home a lot too. As long as the kids have WiFi they'd love it. We have a garden, trampoline, basketball hoop, running machine so could get some exercise and fresh air. DH would probably spend most of his time in the garage on his bike!

Food might be a problem. I bulk buy tins, pasta etc and could make our own bread but we'd run out of other stuff pretty quickly.

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/02/2020 11:01

I'd LOVE it. I hate going out!

boatyardblues · 26/02/2020 11:14

I think I'd go insane and someone may end up under the patio

Looking on the bright side, digging in the garden would count as fresh air and exercise. 🤷‍♀️

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 26/02/2020 11:36

it would be sod law that after months of floods it finally stops raining when we go into quarantine and the water runs out Angry

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/02/2020 14:39

I'm self employed so I wouldn't get paid, and can't afford to do that right now. I'm a sole trader so no staff to cover and while I can do some admin from home I can't actually make any money without leaving the house.

The dog wouldn't be walked, and would have gone stir crazy in the first 36 hours.

If the government wants me to self isolate they'd have to cover my costs - I'm not losing my home (which would also mean the loss of my business, livelihood, dog... And hence mental and likely physical health) for the sake of a nasty cold.

franklyshankly2 · 26/02/2020 16:17

@ludothedog

Get over yourself. I was clearly talking about the quarantine as described on the news last night and is it stands now with the coronavirus situation.

InMySpareTime · 26/02/2020 16:24

I have my giant fabric stash, and my TBR shelves pile is reaching daunting levels.
Two weeks in quarantine would be lovely!

AuntieStella · 26/02/2020 16:27

I think I'd be OK.

Online supermarket (pls keeping a decent stock of stuff at home anyhow) means I should be OK. I'd happily be a bookworm or spend the whole time tutting round in the internet.

I'd miss running. So might consider being naughty and getting up for a run at 5ish, when no one else is around (or so few people you can leave a wide berth). Presumably people with dogs would have to do similar for canine exercise?

franklyshankly2 · 26/02/2020 16:40

Sorry tagged the wrong person. So sorry.

Dollywilde · 26/02/2020 16:45

It’d be an absolute dream. I’m currently sitting in the work loos for five minutes of peace as everyone has decided it’s Badger Dolly Day. We’re pretty stocked up food wise and I’m pregnant so the idea of being able to just sleep is delicious. While it’s not the same, I’m half hoping HR massively errs on the side of caution and suggests I work from home given the fact I’m pregnant and we’re based in the Square Mile....

pigsDOfly · 26/02/2020 17:13

I'd be okay, might get a bit stir crazy as I hate not being able to go out, but I'd find things to do.

As long as I had enough books, laptop, phone and food, I'd cope.

Don't know what I'd do about the dog though, she'd be bouncing off the walls after a couple of days and would probably drive me mad wanting to be entertained.

Pp up thread mentioned about ordering food online. How is that going to work if we're all told to stay in our homes for two weeks? Do people who deliver food not count.

Likewise the staff needed to keep the utilities running. What happens when the water doesn't run into our taps and we can't flush our lavatories? We could end up with even worse health problems. And what happens if the gas and electricity cuts off. We could end up with people freezing to death in their own homes.

Doesn't sound very practical tbh.

Poorolddaddypig · 26/02/2020 17:16

I live in China so have been stuck inside for a month now! It’s been fine. We just order our food shopping online, and all of our jobs are working from home (I’m a teacher so lots of online classes!). If anyone feels unwell, a team of doctors come round and check you out just to be on the safe side, so you don’t need to worry about going out to a hospital. Where I live has got the virus under control now, so emergency status has been lifted and it’s now fine to go out as long as you’re wearing a mask, and some workplaces are already open.

Poorolddaddypig · 26/02/2020 17:17

Outside of Hubei province there have been no shortages of anything - food, drink etc all normal. If im honest I’ve spent most of my time drinking wine and watching movies and cooking and eating far too much. I’m fatter than I was a month ago, for sure!

Poorolddaddypig · 26/02/2020 17:20

Oh and should add, vets etc are still open - my friends dog was sick and a vet came to collect his dog, took dog off for a check up, dropped round medicine for the dog when he needed more. Many restaurants are still open and doing take out. Hospitals open as usual if you do want to go (seperate hospitals for virus treatment and for everything else, so can just go to non-virus hospitals). It’s actually been really easy, and completely fine, weirdly! Nothing like I’d have imagined it would be!

pullingmyhairout2 · 26/02/2020 17:23

I would hate it. I get cabin fever if I'm stuck in the house just for one day. I would be insane after 2 weeks 😂. The dog would be a nightmare too. The kids would love it as long as the internet doesn't go down!

SwearyMcSwearySwear · 26/02/2020 17:27

Been thinking about this! Got some staples in for the store cupboard, we have a small garden to air kids, a ton of board games, loads of DVDs, fitness games on the Wii to jump around to, and I'd sign up to one of those home tutoring sites to get the kids to do schoolwork...
Might be doing some of that stuff anyway as I thing there's high chance of our school being closed soon. But hopefully we won't be stuck at home as well.

belay · 26/02/2020 17:29

Alone - no problem . With DH and DS - omg 😳

WeeNippy · 26/02/2020 17:31

I can't think of anything better than being ordered to stay at home for 2 weeks. I would hibernate all winter if it was possible. I'd like to think I'd be productive, have big clear outs, sort out years of photos etc but realistically I'd binge watch everything on netflix and take lots of naps Grin.

SisterAgatha · 26/02/2020 17:34

I’d be getting shit done in quarantine. House decorated (I’ve bought all the stuff, I just need a clear few weeks to do it) eBay all my crap, clear the garage, maybe garden a bit, plant some seeds ready for summer.

I would love quarantine.

SisterAgatha · 26/02/2020 17:35

I also live very close to a forest which is huge and deserted so I could go out there for a walk if I absolutely had to.

BentNeckLady · 26/02/2020 17:41

We’d be grand. I’m rather hoping it happens tbh!

zukiecat · 26/02/2020 17:43

Just adult DD and me here, and we don't go anywhere anyway, apart from shopping and we do that fortnightly so probably have enough food, but would most likely have to eke it out.

As long as we had enough gas and electric on the meters, we'd be fine with our books.

Only other person I see is my support worker, so apart from not seeing her, life wouldn't be so very different.

Butterfingers64 · 26/02/2020 19:07

I would love it. I mainly WFH anyway. DDogs would hate it as our garden is approximately six feet square.
