There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

Yes, I read it the other way, but I didn’t really understand it.

Place marking

Keynote1 · 04/03/2020 20:34

Sorry just wondered if anybody had thoughts on the following;
I have been so obsessed and scared about this I haven't even hugged my husband for the last week or even sat on the sofa next to him, he is getting very stressed with me and what he thinks is totally uncontrolled anxiety.

Secondly I am finding it hard to make plans, have turned down invitations for things in the next couple of months, even cancelled a clothes order thinking what is the point of buying clothes , just feels as if not really worth it at the moment. How are you all just getting on with life I am just getting bogged down

tud41 · 04/03/2020 20:43

It's hard to change your view on it especially with anxiety issues as you can't think rationally... Please don't let it affect your husband... I promise as soon as something else comes along it will barely get a mention... Remember just a couple of weeks ago with the death of Caroline flack? Coronavirus wasn't mentioned at all in the papers etc until people had got bored of that story...

tud41 · 04/03/2020 20:45

There is a reason the WHO won't declare a pandemic and the fact that the active cases have been decreasing World wide for 2 weeks now is a huge indicator of why... The current amount of infect people in the whole world would not even half fill Wembley stadium for a bit of perspective.

tud41 · 04/03/2020 20:46

@Keynote1 if you read this thread and the information provided by the WHO (the one body in the world who's job it is to be experts on this sort of thing) you will feel much better...

Canshopwillshop · 04/03/2020 20:56

@keynote1 - it’s horrible to feel the way you do and I can relate. My health anxiety was starting to rise but I’m trying to stay away from any of the other threads on here and I don’t look at newspapers - it’s easy to get drawn in to the hysteria. I check up once a day or so on the BBC website.

No one I know irl is reacting the way people are on these other threads and that includes at least 4 health professionals.

Iflyaway · 04/03/2020 20:56

You have more chance of winning the Euromillions lottery jackpot than of contracting Coronavirus.

Neither of these are true... Fucks sake. talk about False news....

Keynote1 · 04/03/2020 20:57

Thank you @tud41, really struggling to be positive but I know I have to get out of this.

Is it ok to hug hubby, kids, grandkids?

tud41 · 04/03/2020 21:00

Of course it is.. Hugging in general will make you feel happier anyway.. You will get out of it I promise.. X

Roussette · 04/03/2020 21:02

Keynote yes yes yes. Please huge your dog, DH, GC. Don't let this scare mongering affect the way you are with those you love. My adult DCs live away, and I'm due to see 2 of them in London, we will hug and hug like normal because I miss 'em! And we're off to theatre, meals, all on public transport.

peoplepleaser1 · 04/03/2020 21:09

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
For this thread.

I've always been a stoic type but have been very anxious about all of this.

I think reading other mumsnet threads has really affected me. Several seem pretty factual but this one somehow has helped me so much!

DS is booked on a school ski trip via coach to Austria at the beginning of April, and that's causing me enormous worry. I know in reality I have to just wait and see how things are nearer the time, but I'm struggling to stop thinking about it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/03/2020 21:13

Honestly I was sick with worry. I stopped reading the endless threads on here and stuck to this one. The others are doom mungers.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 04/03/2020 21:34

I think the confusion lies in the fact that it has mutated to an aggressive strain (but that is dying out according to those articles)

The original strain (milder) is the one which is continuing to spread

That's the way I read it anyway (and even other people on The Other Thread) and I'm sticking to my interpretation because it calms me Wink

KaptenKrusty · 04/03/2020 21:46

Glad this page still exists - I’ve been attacked for writing anything g positive on any of the other pages !!

7Days · 04/03/2020 21:51

Just placemarking to get on this thread.

I've always been a worrier and I remember scoffing at my mother years ago when she said Paper Never Refused Ink.
She was right though. Drama and strong emotion sells papers/ drives clicks.

The situation is worrying, but not apocalyptic.
I am glad of this thread. Calm, informative and truthful but proportionate.

Twinklelittlestar1 · 04/03/2020 21:53

This is a genius thread. Thanks for all of the contributions! I'm getting super anxious about all this. I have generalised anxiety and just changed my meds a fortnight ago so not sure how much is me vs side effects of the new meds but I am really struggling with this. I'm obsessively reading the news and Mumsnet and trying to figure out statistics and I just need to stop as it's affecting my life! Anyway, the fact that this thread exists shows that I'm in good company.

Bubble5123 · 04/03/2020 21:57

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread! I have been getting more and more anxious reading the various reports in the press, so this has really helped to give me some perspective!

Rassy · 04/03/2020 22:09

This thread is a god send - I feel it is like a big group hand hold. No one I know IRL is as worried as me!

Alsohuman · 04/03/2020 22:13

I’ve been attacked for writing anything g positive on any of the other pages !!

Me too. The panic is getting as cultish as Brexit, they don’t want to listen to common sense.

RapidRainbow · 04/03/2020 22:16

I just had a thought:
China population Approx 1.386 billion
80,000 cases

If we generously say that over the next few months this would triple (accounting for long gradual decline) that's 240,000 cases.

I can't get my head around the exact maths but one million is 1% of 1 billion. So this is a very low amount of infection to population ratio.

The population of the UK is 66 million.

In other news - the pollution coming from China has gone right down! Good thing for the environment all this shutting everything down! Obviously crap people are ill /dying - but might help improve their air quality slightly which can only be a good thing

Also, let's pledge that any future anxiety inducing events, we start a thread with the same name I. E

The 'Positive Mental Health' thread

Then we can always find and support each other on any topic with the same spirit we found here. I may have made the thread but its the community we have built that makes this thread Smile

Is it just me who has little epiphanys about this and then gets excited at "uncovering" a new perspective on something? Blush
