Worried I have Coronavirus

I know this might sound silly or far fetched but hear me out..

I'm very rarely ill. Probably once a year if that. But now I have the most horrendous cough, I can't catch my breath sometimes when the coughing starts. It's come out of nowhere and I'm absolutely floored.

Im seriously worried that it's something sinister. Like I said I'm rarely ill so this is out of sorts for me. I feel like I can't function because of the sore throat, coughing and general feeling of being unwell.

AIBU here? It's just so scary with everything that is going on at the moment, I'm thinking all sorts in my head.

Also sneezing ridiculous amounts

Theres a really nasty chesty cough going around, its much more likely you have that.

BendyLikeBeckham · 04/02/2020 19:04

have you just returned from Wuhan?

If not, then I'd suggest you follow the NHS guidance for cold/flu.

sirmione16 · 04/02/2020 19:04

Fs calm down, and book a doctors appointment as breathlessness is a concern. It could asthma, could be a chest infection. Highly unlikely it's coronavirus.

There is a bad cold going around. Unless you've been in China don't be worried about Coronavirus. If your coughing persists, call your doctor.

ohshit2020 · 04/02/2020 19:05

I know I'm being stupid but I have health anxiety and the situation with the coronavirus is making it much worse. How can you even tell if it's just a common cold or something more?

OP posts:
Eckhart · 04/02/2020 19:06

Anything else that makes you think it's anything more than a cold? (which is what it sounds like)

TheMustressMhor · 04/02/2020 19:06

I was just about to ask you if you had health anxiety, OP.

ohshit2020 · 04/02/2020 19:06

@Eckhart I've been aching like crazy. Joints have been hurting and I feel like it's taking a lot of my energy to even move

OP posts:
WellHolyGodMiley · 04/02/2020 19:07

You're not being stupid. I think it's a logical anxiety. I'm prepping, I'm thinking about buying tamiflu... so i take the pandemic seriously. BUT, I think that if you're in the UK it's really unlikely.

TheMustressMhor · 04/02/2020 19:08

You should get a GP appointment in the morning if you still feel bad.

ohshit2020 · 04/02/2020 19:08

So is there no chance of anyone over in the UK having the virus unless they've been in China recently?

OP posts:
Looneytune253 · 04/02/2020 19:09

Unless you've been to China or someone you know has been recently diagnosed then you'll be fine!!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 04/02/2020 19:09

BBC had an article and said specifically that sneezing/runny nose is NOT a symptom of coronovirus.

WhyNotMe40 · 04/02/2020 19:09

Well if you are snotty and sneezing it's probably not the coronavirus.
For what it's worth I'm just over the worst bit of the worst cold I think I have ever had... Had the aches and shakes, fever, sore throat, felt absolutely awful, and just had to sleep in bed for an entire day (and could have done 3 if I'd had the childcare!)
Now have the most annoying cough to the point of vomiting, but I don't feel like I'm dying anymore, and could do a few bits today. Back to work tomorrow.
You've probably just got the same bloody awful cough and cold. Flowers

cleaning247 · 04/02/2020 19:10

I'm just getting over the grim chesty cough. I felt dreadful. I spent a lot of time googling to work out what awful disease I'd caught. But it seems to have just been this horrible cough. It lasted 3 weeks. Get well soon.

TheMustressMhor For what is most likely a cold?

Op, have you been to an affected area recently?

reginafelangee · 04/02/2020 19:11

There has been no person to person transmission in the UK.

Sounds like you have a cold.

Meshy12 · 04/02/2020 19:11

It is scary but unless you have any links to China it’s highly unlikely.., call 111.

Ps tamiflu is for the flu not Coronavirus and hasn’t been proven to treat any Coronavirus so best not to convince people to panic buy that

Eckhart · 04/02/2020 19:12

Aching isn't one of the primary symptoms, so maybe it's something else. Have you taken your temperature?

CakeandCustard28 · 04/02/2020 19:13

Sounds like flu. Unless you’ve been to Wuhan or China recently though there’s no need to cause a mass panic.

Tombliwho · 04/02/2020 19:13

I can't imagine how overrun GP's are going to be with people claiming to have this virus.

backinthebox · 04/02/2020 19:15

I'm fairly sure you just have a nasty cold. My family have all had a nasty cold over the winter. I work with people from China and work in a company that sends about 150 per week to China and back, and none of us have Coronavirus yet. It's not impossible that you have it, but it is extremely unlikely indeed. You would have to have been in close proximity (within 2 metres for 15 minutes) of a person with coronavirus. At the moment, aside from the 2 cases in York, there are no known cases of the virus in the UK. Even among those british citizens evacuated from Wuhan there are no identified cases yet, and they are testing and observing them rigorously.
