Worried I have Coronavirus

I know this might sound silly or far fetched but hear me out..

I'm very rarely ill. Probably once a year if that. But now I have the most horrendous cough, I can't catch my breath sometimes when the coughing starts. It's come out of nowhere and I'm absolutely floored.

Im seriously worried that it's something sinister. Like I said I'm rarely ill so this is out of sorts for me. I feel like I can't function because of the sore throat, coughing and general feeling of being unwell.

AIBU here? It's just so scary with everything that is going on at the moment, I'm thinking all sorts in my head.

gamerwidow Anecdotally I would say the opposite. No one I know at work or family has had anything much by way of cough, colds and sneezes. I think the mild winters really help. There are usually loads of at work at this time of year but we haven’t seen it so much.
On the other hand I would say the stomach bug type things seem to be more prevelant.

For God’s sake. If you have severe respiratory symptoms then you need to be tested.

blue25 · 07/03/2020 13:32

You’re not helping anyone by posting this on here OP. How do we know what you’ve got?

Follow government guidelines and phone 111. Stop spreading panic.

gamerwidow · 07/03/2020 13:35

Leflic I think we've proved why anecdotal data is garbage between us Grin

gamerwidow · 07/03/2020 13:37

to be fair to the OP shes not been back for over a month, probably well over whatever she had by now.

apricotnuts · 07/03/2020 13:47

Coronavirus is spread by droplets, not by aerosol spraying of viral particles (eg sneezing).

@Dolorabelle, sneezing produces droplets.

apricotnuts · 07/03/2020 13:52

Apologies didn’t see this thread is a month old!

Someone I worked with veered away from a Chinese person today. I explained that we are probably in much more danger at this point from Americans, - massive population, rich country and travel widely, health system that costs over £100 for a test and half the country does not have medical insurance.

Think about it - if you are poor and ill, no way will you be able to afford that test. The virus will likely be spreading unchecked in the US and we will find out about it when it's too late to contain.

EnidBlyton · 07/03/2020 14:13

i would be wary everywhere you go, no reason for any racism.

Ferretyone · 07/03/2020 14:16

@ohshit2020

You are not being silly it is a worry!

But - think of the statistics. Lets say there are 200 cases currently in the UK for you to catch it from. There are possibly 50 million people in the UK and the point that I am making is that there is a very very small probability that you would meet one of those with it.

Unless you have been somewhere like China the advice will be to drink lots of fluids and take paracetamol if you have a temperature

Hope you feel better soon
