Worried I have Coronavirus

ohshit2020 · 04/02/2020 19:02

I know this might sound silly or far fetched but hear me out..

I'm very rarely ill. Probably once a year if that. But now I have the most horrendous cough, I can't catch my breath sometimes when the coughing starts. It's come out of nowhere and I'm absolutely floored.

Im seriously worried that it's something sinister. Like I said I'm rarely ill so this is out of sorts for me. I feel like I can't function because of the sore throat, coughing and general feeling of being unwell.

AIBU here? It's just so scary with everything that is going on at the moment, I'm thinking all sorts in my head.

@SlippersAndThePaper, yes, I hardly think the coronavirus is going to HIT my locale within the next 72 hours, so what harm could it do to order 1 box to have in case I get it?! Not sure I understand your point. Do you think I wouldn't KNOW if I got the flu?? I think I could tell if I got it/got sick/felt sick. Hmm

WellHolyGodMiley · 04/02/2020 20:17

@SlippersAndThePaper I think you're confusing two posters with each other and misunderstanding that they are the same poster.

ddl1 · 04/02/2020 20:19

Very unlikely. Probably a bad cold or the flu. I've noticed a lot of people with nasty coughs lately, so obviously there's things going around. I would say that, assuming that you haven't spent time in Wuhan recently, the chances of it being Coronavirus are minuscule.

Wishforsnow · 04/02/2020 20:21

You may have a cold or flu but the odds of having coronavirus just don't exist. On here you will get so many people saying it's not flu and you wouldn't be able to text but that's simply rubbish

kissmelittleass · 04/02/2020 20:21

Myself and dd have been in bed since Saturday with a nasty virus. I can't remember being as bad as this for a long time, hacking dry cough, temperatures, awful headache and extreme tiredness and dizziness when we get up.
Dd has vomited once too and had tummy pains but I haven't had that.
Just one of those nasty winter viruses going round that's what you have so many people sick with this nasty one the coughing is the worst my ribs are so sore!

PineappleDanish · 04/02/2020 20:24

Get a grip.

Unless you're sitting in Arrowe Park hospital, having recently being evacuated from Wuhan, you don't have coronavirus.

20CMB20 · 04/02/2020 20:25

No it's not, @Wishforsnow I have had flu twice. Both times, I wanted to die. I couldn't move, never mind pick up a phone. After the first few days, maybe. But not at first. I couldn't do anything. The DC were very small then, and asked me (with great interest): "are you dying, Mummy?"

SlippersAndThePaper · 04/02/2020 20:27

WellHolyGodMiley Eh? You posted about buying tamiflu. It was OP who said her temperature was 37.2, which isn’t a high temperature as someone pointed out. 🙄

BaolFan · 04/02/2020 20:28

I had a horrendous bug just before Christmas - completely floored me and I have only just got rid of the cough. Took 6 weeks and at its worst I was being sick from hacking and coughing so much.

As PP have already said, follow the NHS guidance for coughs and colds, get the right meds from your local pharmacy, take plenty of fluids and rest when you can.

It is far more likely to be a bad cold than Coronavirus.

ChasingRainbows19 · 04/02/2020 20:29

@WhyNotMe40 exactly like me, bit of a sore throat Friday/sat but Felt ok. Sunday felt like it was going then it hit me properly! Felt like I was over dramatising a cold but to be honest the cold symptoms are mild and already going it's everything else! Hope the cough doesn't kick I'm off work next week for leave...

NameChangeNugget · 04/02/2020 20:31

You're not being stupid. I think it's a logical anxiety. I'm prepping, I'm thinking about buying tamiflu... so i take the pandemic seriously

Are you actually serious?? Biscuit

WellHolyGodMiley · 04/02/2020 20:32

@SlippersAndThePaper read your post back. You're asking me if I ''realise'' it would be pointless to buy Tamiflu. Of course it would not be pointless. I do not already have the flu. It is the OP who is not well.

But carry on as you say.

Hmm
Jellykat · 04/02/2020 20:32

My Ds and i are in week 3 of the hacking cough (to the point of retching) dizzy achey bug. Its everywhere here, and the worst is it goes, then comes back again according to my Tesco delivery man , and me.. i managed to finally go to work on Friday, then wham it was back with avengance on Saturday.
I'm starting with ABs tomorrow as i just cant breath.. Don't panic OP, this is a real nasty bug!

CeibaTree · 04/02/2020 20:32

Sounds like you either have a cold or the regular flu. Is your husband's colleague from Wuhan, or been off work with the flu? Or are all Chinese people automatically carriers now?!

Sammy867 · 04/02/2020 20:33

I have recently had something similar and strange that my DD also had
day 1-3 very blocked runny nose, cough
day 3-5 aching, tired, hurting everywhere, blocked nose still
day 5-7 nose unblocks but now sore throat
day 7-10 cough but throat not as sore
day 10-14 sore throat returns with cough but otherwise well

its been a strange one and a few people I know have had the same and felt the same. Im 2 weeks in now and just have a sore throat and a dry cough but otherwise fine. I think without a cold snap this winter theres a few more bugs doing the rounds.

VanGoghsDog · 04/02/2020 20:33

I've had a cough since Boxing day. Not coronavirus. Annoying though.

Netflix isn't available on prescription - but it should be ;)

Netflix is bloody cheaper than a prescription!

BaolFan · 04/02/2020 20:33

And it was a nasty bug - it went round my office like wildfire and several people were off sick for over a week with it. Lots and lots of coughing for weeks afterwards even when the other symptoms had subsided.

Aridane · 04/02/2020 20:35

You're not being stupid. I think it's a logical anxiety

No it's not - unless OP has just come back from Wuhan or been in heavy international travel

Nofunkingworriesmate · 04/02/2020 20:36

Get help for your anxiety, it must be hell to feel the way you do in the face of logic and all available information

Lollygaggles · 04/02/2020 20:36

I'm just getting over exactly what you describe. My friend's had it too. Think it's just a nasty fluey type virus. I couldn't get up on Saturday, was just shattered. Hope you're feeling better soon.Flowers

20CMB20 · 04/02/2020 20:38

Hope the cough doesn't kick I'm off work next week for leave

Try being self employed, @ChasingRainbows19 You'd have to be actually dead not to go to work.

SlippersAndThePaper · 04/02/2020 20:40

WellHolyGodMiley You carry on building your underground bunker. The rest of us will carry on with our normal lives. And you mention the pandemic. That would be Coronavirus? Which tamiflu doesn’t treat, like I said.

Aridane · 04/02/2020 20:40

You don’t even have the symptoms of Coronavirus, let alone the thing itself

This!

2020cominatcha · 04/02/2020 20:42

I know I'm being stupid but I have health anxiety and the situation with the coronavirus is making it much worse.

I heard a podcast the other day in which a medical expert said that he believed that the biggest risk posed by Coronavirus at this time was to people’s mental health. So I can well imagine that this must be having a massive impact on you.

Have you had/are you having treatment for your health anxiety? It seems that this might be the most positive step you could take at this stage Flowers

Aridane · 04/02/2020 20:45

Hi OP and @MNHQ , could you consider changing the thread title to 'worried I have Coronavirus' or something so it doesn't make us all freak out? Or maybe it's just me. smile

I think it's just you. I suspect the rest of us read the title with a slight eye roll and mild curiosity as to whether OP had just return from Wuhan / mainland China or worked in wet markets
