Airplane terror attack

If stabbing a fellow pilot and trying to down a plane with 180 Israelis isn't terrorism what is?

It seems like a mass terrorism event has been fouled but heroes on an air plane this morning

Many if our news outlets are describing this as a stabbing on an airplane. No...if you stab the pilot and the plane plummet towards the ground that is an attempt at mass murder... terrorism.

Are the media so afraid now of using the word terrorism that they completely downplay the event. Third rated news article in the Guardian after political stories

It's a reminder of how many enemies Israel has and what they are prepared to do.

@lepara the crew would know they had deadheading crew in the aircraft.

Knowing this makes it more likely imo that either:

  • it was a genuine brawl/suicidal pilot/mental health issue
  • or that it was terrorism but that it was completely spur of the moment
  • It was terrorism and there was some other reason, not known yet, why it had to be today's flight, so he risked it despite a lower chance of success.

It doesn't seem likely that this was an attack planned over years or months (the pilot being relatively new to the airline is of interest here), given it would have been stupid to attempt with 2 additional pilots on board.

That's very odd. The pilot and copilot must have been aware of this, given it's their flight that was potentially being rerouted.

If you were going to kill the copilot and crash the plane, it doesn't make sense that you'd chose to do that on a flight with other pilots around. You'd anyway the plan and just pick next time you were on that route surely, rather then risk failing your mission.

On 29 September 2026, during a campaign-season visit to the Tel Nof Airbase, Netanyahu issued a formal televised warning, stating that Israel has "indications that ahead of the elections, our enemies will try to attack us".

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dubai crew didn't know about the additional pilots and security provisions put in place if there was intel on a possible plane hijacking.

What on earth is going on on this thread!? This place is insane.

It's called anti semitism.

Basically there was an attempt to crash a plane on its way to Israel by stabbing the co pilot by the pilot. It was averted by the passengers and the plane safely landed. This has been corroborated by the passengers.

Because it involves Jews and Israel the usual haters are out trying to plant misinformation to cast doubt with the less informed on what happened and ideally in their minds blame Israel for it.

Oh, ok, so that makes the attacker sound like he didn't care about the potential for the passenger pilots to step in so to speak, so it may have been an interpersonal issue/breakdown. Who knows? It's just good news that all survived anyhow. That's an amazing outcome considering what went on in the cockpit.

They would definitely have known, they are from the same airline, colleagues and if it's true that the plane might need to be rerouted and those pilots would be over their hours, it's incredibly unlikely they wouldn't know.

notimagain · 30/09/2026 20:01

it would have been stupid to attempt with 2 additional pilots on board.

Why?

If the flight deck had remained secure the presence of deadheading/relief pilots would have been utterly irrelevant.

I think there's a danger people are starting to read way to much into the fact there was an excess of crew involved (and some other aspects of this TBH).

Deadheading (aka positioning) isn't that unusual...sticking relief crew on because a duty day might go out of hours isn't something.many airlines would do but maybe Flydubhai do things.differently.

friedaklein · 30/09/2026 20:03

I assume the attacker hoped he might be able to take control of the cockpit and crash the plane.before the other 2 pilots could intervene.

I very much doubt this was an interpersonal issue between the pilots.

Actually ignore me. It's been confirmed all 4 pilots were from flydubai. I hadn't seen that.

I thought it may have been related to Netanyahu saying there were indications of attacks planned in the run up to the elections.

Although it may well have been.

The attacker was supposedly destroying the controls when he was overpowered. Had he succeeded in doing that the deadheaders wouldn't have mattered either.

If these heros managed to do what they did with an uncontrolled aircraft underneath them then they've really pulled off one of thebest rescues in aviation history.

I am loving this story so much.

Apparently, the plane landed with significant, visible damage to the tail section, including a large portion of the rudder missing.

This would have made it pretty challenging to land.

Being viewed as an incredible display of airmanship.

Well done to the 3 pilots and the passengers who together saved so many lives.

On the other hand, the Omani pilot tried hard to TAKE many lives.

Absolute heroes saved the day. It was clearly a terror attack.

So the guy saved a plane cos he watched TV.....just wow!

Have to say I know bugger all about planes but I do watch a lot of AirCrash investigation programmes and if faced with it I would know to pull the flightstick back if it was hurtling towards the ground. After that I’d be struggling more, but I know there’s little pictures on the flight deck which tell you if you’re flying level or not. I’d certainly be hunting around for the autopilot button and hoping someone who knows more than me is about to come through the cockpit door! 😂

NeedToKnow101 · 30/09/2026 20:18

Oh and I forgot to say, shame on our pathetic media for framing it as a ‘feud,’ ‘spat’ or the political ‘far-right’ Israeli minister ‘claimed’ it was a terror attack.’.

Interesting. Is this likely to be physical damage from bits being ripped off the plane as it plummeted?

So not at all like those movies where a plane can plummet until the last moment, pull up and is still physically intact.

Whatever happened though, what bravery from those on board, and how terrifying for the passengers.

Yes but because israelis were involved, either people wont believe it, dont want to give them any credit, or worse, are actually disappointed that the planned attack wasn't successful. Its a disgusting state of affairs really

Seems possible/probable the aircraft got up to well above it's published maximum allowable airspeed and maximum allowable Mach number in the descent, so they'd be getting into territory where even aerodyamic forces can start breaking things.

Also if any rudder got applied high speed (e.g. rudder pedal input during any flightdeck struggle) it's quite possible at high speed that could have caused bits of the rudder to depart...

Yes exactly. Even the BBC are at it - "altercation between the pilots."

Our dearest BBC have been one of the biggest spreaders of antisemitism in the last few years.

Soundsok · 30/09/2026 20:59

The BBC are appalling. A law unto themselves and peddling their own agenda.

JellySaurus · 30/09/2026 21:01

I accept that we do not yet know exactly the knife-wielder’s motivation. But just how likely is it that this was an argument between two pilots that escalated into a knifing? Far more likely that the attacker took a long time to psych himself up to launching his attack - without his colleague noticing that he was getting ready and while choosing the moment when the cockpit door was locked without any cabin crew in the cockpit.

The presence of the relief pilots was irrelevant: they were on the other side of a locked door. The attacker rushed and messed up. He would probably have succeeded had he focused on immobilising the pilot.

DaisyDooley · 30/09/2026 21:27

We all know it’s a terrorist bloody ‘Alluh Akbar’ (sp) attack on Jews.
We can see the blatant open anti semetic views on here, on the BBC, on social media.

I never fail to be emotionally moved by the bravery of (mainly) men who put their own lives at risk to challenge the terrorists. I always think of that young father on United 93 “let’s roll”. I think his name was Todd.

It must be utterly terrifying when something like this happens. I like to think I would be brave but I just don’t know. I also have watched multiple series of Air Crash Investigations so would know to pull back on the yoke (“Low terrain! Pull up! Low terrain! Pull up!).
I can’t be the only one who now looks round to see if there are any men with backpacks of a certain ethnicity when I get on trains/tubes. I now drive down to London when we go there, I’ve stopped using my closest regional airport and I’m careful where I go. There are, without doubt, many extreme Islamist cells here just waiting to hurt us.
The anti semetism in the UK is horrific.
Jews have no fight with us and don’t harm us.
I’m utterly ashamed and do all I can to support the British Jewish community.
I’m so pleased that this flight was saved by the pilot who managed to open the cockpit door and the passengers.
Shame on those who try and pretend that it was anything but an Islamic terrorist attack on utterly innocent people.

Well that’s the BBC for you, always happy to distort the picture when it suits them. The sooner the licence fee goes, the better.

The heroic pilot was of a certain ethnicity too. How would you be able to tell the difference between 'good' ethnic men carrying backpacks and ' bad' ethnic men on the Tube?
