Doesn’t look like there will be much land left for the Palestinians.

And in other news, from the Guardian:

“Israel’s defence minister has said he is committed to the ethnic cleansing of Gaza through large-scale migration of Palestinians as part of Israel’s long-term plans for the territory.
Israel Katz said the government would implement a plan for large numbers of Palestinians to leave Gaza “at the right time and in the right manner”, in a statement on Wednesday marking the targeted killing of Mohammed Odeh, Hamas’s most recent military commander.
Pushing for mass departures violates Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan for Gaza, which Israel signed last year. The second point of the plan states: “Gaza will be redeveloped for the benefit of the people of Gaza, who have suffered more than enough.”
Israel’s government has promoted the prospect of Gaza without Palestinians since Trump suggested early last year that hundreds of thousands of people should leave to “clean out” the strip for reconstruction.
Last year Israel set up a bureau for “voluntary emigration” and eased travel restrictions for Palestinians who wanted to make a one-way journey out of the strip.
The forced transfer of civilian populations is a war crime and a crime against humanity. Israeli officials, including Katz, use the term “voluntary migration” to describe their ”

Demographic

Okay so what kind of demographic do you think MN mods are that is such a problem?

JadeHare · 09/07/2026 09:07

This thread is being seriously derailed. The thread is about the fact that Israel have now taken over 70% of Gaza, forcing the Palestinians into even less of the land which is theirs by right.

This thread is not about whether it was genocide, ethnic cleansing or whatever.

This thread is definitely not about what or why MNHQ decide to delete comments. Let’s stick to the topic.

Actually it is also about Genocide. The attempt to make living so unbearable for Gazans is an attempt drive them out and so erase them. The rest I agree with.

Discussions often move into other areas, I've been told that lots of times. I've even been accused of being "thread police" when I ask that people stick to what the thread is supposed to be about.

That's the trouble with discussions open to everyone - there is no way of controlling what people choose to talk about on your thread.

I read yesterday that there was a serious outbreak of chicken pox in Gaza at the moment. Over 9,300 cases identified in the space of two weeks. Must be horrendous for them squeezed into those dirty, cramped conditions with very little medical infrastructure left to them.

So many other diseases are rife there now too, no suprise with the conditions they are forced to live in. And of course any kind of decent healthcare care is impossible when hospitals and clinics were destroyed, many healthcare staff killed (or imprisoned), and Israel still being obstructive about vital supplies. So many ways to die in Gaza… 😢

No vaccine program for three years. Very limited supply of medicine such as antibiotics. No sanitation. Weakened immune systems due to malnutrition. Millions crowded into an ever shrinking area. Lack of medical facilities. It is the perfect storm for a massive deadly outbreak.

Why don't Hamas disarm?

Point 1 of the 20 point peace plan is that Gaza will be a deradicalized terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbours.

Point 6 is that Once all hostages are returned, Hamas members who commit to peaceful co-existence and to decommission their weapons will be given amnesty. Members of Hamas who wish to leave Gaza will be provided safe passage to receiving countries.

Point 13 is that Hamas and other factions agree to not have any role in the governance of Gaza, directly, indirectly, or in any form. All military, terror, and offensive infrastructure, including tunnels and weapon production facilities, will be destroyed and not rebuilt. There will be a process of demilitarization of Gaza under the supervision of independent monitors, which will include placing weapons permanently beyond use through an agreed process of decommissioning, and supported by an internationally funded buy back and reintegration program all verified by the independent monitors.

Twiglets1 · 09/07/2026 09:53

Also notable is point 17:

In the event Hamas delays or rejects this proposal, the above, including the scaled-up aid operation, will proceed in the terror-free areas handed over from the IDF to the ISF.

I suppose Hamas could be said to be delaying the proposal, since they show no signs of disarming yet.

JadeHare · 09/07/2026 09:57

There is no ceasefire in Gaza at the moment. Children bombed by a drone just the other day - collecting water.

Unfortunately Iran has meant that the world isn’t paying enough attention to the horrific situation which continues in Gaza.

If you really believe that Hamas disarming will put an end to Israel's genocide I've got some magic beans you might want to buy.

There will be no proper ceasefire in Gaza until and unless Hamas disarm.

Also no proper investment in Gaza.

JadeHare · 09/07/2026 10:19

And no withdrawal by Israel either. They have’t stuck to the terms of the ceasefire by continuing to steal land. And yet nothing has been done about it.

That's right.

No proper ceasefire in Gaza until and unless Hamas disarm.
No proper investment in Gaza.

JadeHare · 09/07/2026 10:27

But Israel haven’t stuck to the original boarders mapped out in the ceasefire have they? They have increased their land grab. And have been allowed to do so without the rest of the world pointing out that they are breaching the terms.

OP posts:

@JadeHare

Nothing has been done about Israel by the international community, nothing has been done about Hamas refusing to disarm. Which leaves the people of Gaza stuck in limbo.

I think it's true what you said above that the world's attention is on Iran.

Netanyahu appears to have violated the ceasefire deal and so have Hamas.

See above - the world's attention is on Iran.

JadeHare · 09/07/2026 10:35

There is talk of three settlements being planned for Northern Gaza just waiting for the final signing off by Netanyahu. They will probably get away with that too.

There is no peace deal. Never was. All smoke and mirrors. Israel wants the world to see them as a liberal democracy and not an apartheid state but at the same time remain a Jewish majority state. There's only one way to do that.

PenelopePinkerton · 09/07/2026 10:42

I find the behaviour of both Hamas and the Israeli government abhorrent. My last post was deleted but I feel that it would be much better if that area of land were uninhabitable so that no one would claim it and the world could move on.

I don’t think nuking it is the answer - was that what you suggested?

They have suggested a 2 state solution in the past? Not recently and not likely to be repeated any time soon after 7/10/23.

But in the future who knows? After a few years and a different leadership (on both sides) it may yet be possible.

As we're being so honest I'll tell you my impression of you. I don't think you are evil at all. I understood what you were trying to say about Golda Meir's quote earlier, even though we disagree. Sometimes you express views which are in the nicest way possible, unsympathetic. A land where people could live together regardless of their religion. Wow. You mean like Deir Yassin and Givat Shaul in the very early part of the 20th century. I'm not using that as a dig or trying to start an argument. I'm talking about when they existed as neighbouring villages, they helped each other with the harvest, went to each others weddings, helped each other as neighbours in every way. A Jewish village and a Muslim village, living as brothers/sisters. Now wouldn't that be amazing.

Thankyou for this.

Yes, Arab Israelis and Jewish Israelis do live together in peace in Israel

And yes, also like some villages would have lived in harmony throughout the history of the region. Because most normal people of all religions just want to get on with their lives.

As you say, would be amazing.
