Conflict in the Middle East

I need to say this out loud

As a British citizen I am disgusted in the utter cowardice of my own government at the moment. If you are an American citizen please believe that there are people in the UK who have no respect for the way we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in the Middle East.
Your government has backbone and courage and wants to do the right thing for all our children’s futures.
I applaud Trump for standing up for his country, military, citizens of Iran…the world, and he doesn't care who he might offend in doing so.
It’s such a pity the same can’t be said for our ‘leader’. I am actually ashamed of my country at this moment in time. I truly hope this changes over the coming days/weeks.

This is all about money. Trump and USA profits when international trade is disrupted and gas/oil prices surge.

Trump is not our ally. He is a fox. He is not dumb - he’s ruthless and takes risk.

No UK government should drag us into a war after what happened in Iraq without a mandate from the public.

Bluecrystal2 · 03/03/2026 11:05

I don't see Starmer as a leader. He's always got his human rights hat on and likes to sit on the fence. If you try and please everyone, you end up pleasing no-one.

If this attack ensures Iran never gets a nuclear weapon and loses its ability to fund word-wide terrorism, then I'm in favour.

lllamaDrama · 03/03/2026 11:06

Why should we support Trump’s actions? He hasn’t acted properly over Ukraine. For Trump it’s only about his own glory and what money he and the US can make from a situation. He cares nothing for civilian or military lives outside USA. I believe he would burn the rest of the world to the ground if he thought he would profit from it.

tutugogo · 03/03/2026 11:07

Respectfully op I completely disagree. What Israel and trump did was against international law. They were the aggressors.

tutugogo · 03/03/2026 11:09

@Clubbiscuit completely agree. Starmer really came into his own yesterday, so calm and careful in a crisis

Yet another batshit bollocks conspiracy theory posted in an attempt by the poster to a) think of themselves that somehow they are superior and "in the know" compared to ordinary folk and b) in the hope that if you throw out the same shit enough times then maybe some of it will stick and create doubt in some gullible minds.

Either way and unless you have any credible evidence to back it up, it needs to be exposed to what it really is narcissistic batshit bollocks conspiracy theories.

Calm down. Have I made you consider you might be wrong? Might explain your frothing indignation.
Frankly, the naivety on this thread is both sad and depressing.

Dropping bombs and murdering innocent civilians isn’t the right way to go about anything. I don’t want the UK to have a part in this shitshow. If more people told Donald Trump to fuck off (and earlier in his pathetic life…) then the world would be a far better place.

Yes, agree! As Starmer said on BBC news last night "Regime change doesn't come from the sky".

So what information sources do you have access to that mere mortals like us don't that allows you to make such superior judgements.

The most dangerous country in the Middle East in my view is Israel. They just call what they do “defense”. It’s really a terrorist state as much as its neighbouring countries.

NotDarkGothicMama · 03/03/2026 10:22

I'm the poster you replied to. They've stated their objectives but Trump makes it impossible to believe them.

Whether you believe them is up to you. But the US have stated their objectives.

Edited

Israel does already possess nuclear weapons but hasn't used them to destroy another country, despite extreme provocation on occasion.

Would you trust Iran not to use them if they got the chance?

I wouldn't. Iran's current regime doesn't recognize Israel's legitimacy as a state and has called for its destruction.

Starmer is right and I support him. This isn’t our war.

Its everyone's war. Iran is responsible for funding, training and aiming Hezbollah,.Hamas & PIJ, The Houthis to name just a few.

They have not needed them to destroy another country and commit mass murder. Do I trust Iran? No I do not, but I also wouldn’t provoke them which is what is happening right now.

This is not how civilised nations go to war.

Forgotmyshades · 03/03/2026 14:56

The Iranian regime isn't civilized they are a threat. This is how you take out a threat.

Is it? They haven’t taken them out. I only see escalation of conflict and more deaths and terror.

What do you mean they have not needed them? They got attacked by Hamas on 7/10/23 with no warning, if you remember - a bad enough attack that it triggered a war.

If they were actually genocidal/the most dangerous country in the Middle East/ a terrorist state and other charming descriptions, they could have used those weapons to kill all of Hamas in Gaza, and all the civilians with them.

The current US President isn't civilised though? Maybe you need to read the Art of War.

Actually for once I think Starmer is right. Getting dragged into a war is the last thing we need.

This.

Forgotmyshades · 03/03/2026 15:15

@Ihangthemoon we're less than 72hrs into a military operation. It doesn't happen overnight. What's the alternative?. Sit them down over dinner and ask if they can please stop funding terrorism and also if they could stop killing and torturing their own people that would be great.

Perfect28 · 03/03/2026 15:16

Sorry but this has outraged me. You're supporting countries whose first action was to kill over a hundred young girls in a school with their so called super accurate missiles. Gross.

Cat1202 · 03/03/2026 15:16

I agree with Starmer, you do not speak for me as a British citizen

sittingonabeach · 03/03/2026 15:17

But where is Trump's plan?
