Conflict in the Middle East

I need to say this out loud

As a British citizen I am disgusted in the utter cowardice of my own government at the moment. If you are an American citizen please believe that there are people in the UK who have no respect for the way we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in the Middle East.
Your government has backbone and courage and wants to do the right thing for all our children’s futures.
I applaud Trump for standing up for his country, military, citizens of Iran…the world, and he doesn't care who he might offend in doing so.
It’s such a pity the same can’t be said for our ‘leader’. I am actually ashamed of my country at this moment in time. I truly hope this changes over the coming days/weeks.

For once I agree with Starmer in not getting us dragged into a war that is not of our making. All the Gulf countries have refused to allow US planes to attack from their terroriry. However I imagine they are now getting pretty pissed off at Iran for launching unprovoced attacks at them.

Forgotmyshades · 03/03/2026 15:32

@Perfect28- The school that was inside an active IRGC compound. Being used as an administrative office. This is being told to us by Iranian State TV (who of course have no reason to lie). Meanwhile anti state media footage is showing this was a failed IRGC rocket launch from inside the compound.

EcoChica1980 · 03/03/2026 15:54

America (the Government, not the people) has a f*&king brass neck asking for help given how shittyly it has treated its allies. This president and his vice president are on record insulting us, calling us weak, and saying we have never stood up depsite hundreds of our servicemen and women dying in wars they started.

There was no threat to the US from Iran. There is no emergency. Trump has chosen to start a war the consequences of which are comepltely unknowable. He is an obvious idiot and our Prime MInister was entirely right not to support this war.

Forgotmyshades · 03/03/2026 16:03

@EcoChica1980- you cannot be serious when you say there was no threat to the US from Iran. Do you know how many terror attacks have been foiled in the last year?. Not just US. 20 in the UK alone. That all stems from Iran. They are a threat to every civilized nation in the world.

What do you mean they have not needed them? They got attacked by Hamas on 7/10/23 with no warning, if you remember - a bad enough attack that it triggered a war.

If they were actually genocidal/the most dangerous country in the Middle East/ a terrorist state and other charming descriptions, they could have used those weapons to kill all of Hamas in Gaza, and all the civilians with them.

Let’s not pretend all was peace and harmony before the Hamas attack.

@Ihangthemoon we're less than 72hrs into a military operation. It doesn't happen overnight. What's the alternative?. Sit them down over dinner and ask if they can please stop funding terrorism and also if they could stop killing and torturing their own people that would be great.

I advise you to fill up on petrol now if you need it.

Oh fgs thank God the US got involved in WW2 a war 'not of their making' otherwise we'd all be speaking Gernan. Allies should back their allies. Starmer is a wet, pathetic embarrassment. He'd soon go running to Trump if we needed help.

The regime in Iran is the behind Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis and needed stopping before they could wipe countries out. We should be thanking Trump and BN.

And they will be less of a threat now? The US and Israel are not behaving like civilised nations.

You think Trump's motivation is altruistic?
This serves a purpose for him....well for Russian oil sales really.

You "forgot" the Soviet Union's involvement which was instrumental to ending WW2. Wonder why that would be?

Lovelyview · 03/03/2026 16:17

After the Iraq war, which I protested against, I thought I would never support involvement in regime change in the Middle East. But my heart goes out to the citizens of Iran who have been under the cosh of an extremist dictatorship for 40+ years. The way the regime massacred many thousands of its own unarmed citizens in recent weeks was truly horrific. The way the regime has sought to destabilise the region through support for Hezbollah and Hamas, it's constant pursuit of nuclear weapons and it's support for terrorism in the West makes me think if America and Israel can achieve a regime change to a democracy in Iran the world will be a safer place. However, there is no guarantee that this action will achieve this result so I don't actually have an opinion on what the UK should do. The UK has been active in defence - presumably of UK bases and Israel and I think that is a valuable contribution. I hope the Iranians will soon be free.

You what? Which of these attacks in the uk stem from Iran? Produce evidence form what you say.

Forgotmyshades · 03/03/2026 16:22

@Ihangthemoon- again we are only 72hrs in. You don't think that using millirary action to remove Iran's current evil regime won't have any effect on the threat to the rest of the world and more importantly the people of Iran?. I hope and pray it will. When I hear my Persian friends speak of what once was there is hope for this beautiful country.

No I don’t think the regime will be removed and I think it will all create a bigger threat to the world.

Forgotmyshades · 03/03/2026 16:38

@Ihangthemoon-!Well I guess time will tell. I'm in the camp of it's worth our best effort as apposed to sit back and do nothing. If I have to pay more for gas in the mean time so be it.

NonViolentProtest · 02/03/2026 18:26

Starmer is absolutely right. If Trump thinks it's OK to attack dictators who murder their own citizens and unlawfully attack other countries, why didn't he take down Putin? If we don't have rule of law, including international law, we are up shit creek.

I totally agree. Nothing good can come of British involvement. As a British citizen, the special relationship is over as far as I’m concerned.

It also distracts from his involvement with Epstein and his visits to the island, the way some of his own citizens have been killed by ICE, the utter state of the US economy and so on.

I completely agree. If they wanted to kill a war criminal Putin is right there with an international warrant out for his arrest. Trump rolled out the red carpet for him. Trump is a Russian asset.

The red cross/crescent are pretty independent don't you think?

So it's tough shit, those girls lives are just more collateral damage?

Ihatetomatoes · 03/03/2026 17:41

In October 2025, the Director General of MI5, Sir Ken McCallum, reported that security agencies have tracked “more than 20 potentially lethal Iran-backed plots” in the previous year. He has issued similar reports in earlier years.

For those that feel Iran doesn't pose a threat and/or aren't involved in international terrorism.
