Conflict in the Middle East

I need to say this out loud

As a British citizen I am disgusted in the utter cowardice of my own government at the moment. If you are an American citizen please believe that there are people in the UK who have no respect for the way we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in the Middle East.
Your government has backbone and courage and wants to do the right thing for all our children’s futures.
I applaud Trump for standing up for his country, military, citizens of Iran…the world, and he doesn't care who he might offend in doing so.
It’s such a pity the same can’t be said for our ‘leader’. I am actually ashamed of my country at this moment in time. I truly hope this changes over the coming days/weeks.

Regime change was not mentioned when outlining the US's goals at this White House appearance. However, when questioned by CNN he did confirm that US was doing more, beyond the military assault, to help the Iranian people regain control of their country.

I think it's fair to believe though, that regime change is not the US's primary goal. I think there are many reasons for this war and regime change just one of them and not necessarily the most important one to the US. Regime change probably more important to Israel who have been attacked recently by the proxies of the current regime.

Yes so my point that Iranians are probably more at risk now than ever from both the regime and external bombings stands. I would liken it to a DV situation when the abuser gets wind that his victim may be making plans to escape the situation, things generally escalate and the abuse increases in intensity.

There were many posters on these threads criticising posters who were expressing concern over what was happening and accusing them of being supportive of the Iranian murderous regime, unfortunately it looks like their concerns were justified.

Totally disagree. I think the UK should align with the Spanish, who have unequivocally told Trump to fuck off.

This is how I feel. I don’t want any part in bombing Iran or anyone else. I’m not in anyway impressed by countries that remove other countries leaders by force. As for bombing primary schools? There are no words to convey my disgust.

It's to distract from Epstein. Don't be naive.

Yet another batshit bollocks conspiracy theory posted in an attempt by the poster to a) think of themselves that somehow they are superior and "in the know" compared to ordinary folk and b) in the hope that if you throw out the same shit enough times then maybe some of it will stick and create doubt in some gullible minds.

Either way and unless you have any credible evidence to back it up, it needs to be exposed to what it really is narcissistic batshit bollocks conspiracy theories.

PistachioTiramisu · 03/03/2026 08:56

I can't stand Starmer or anything he stands for, but in this instance he is right. Why should we get involved in a war which has nothing whatsoever to do with us?

Supersimkin7 · 03/03/2026 09:01

I’m pigsick of fighting other people’s battles.

Why? Imperialism isn’t a great idea.

"Batshit bollocks" perfectly describes Trump.

They may be at more risk at this exact moment in time but as long as he war doesn’t drag on, they will hopefully be in a better position at the end than if the regime went unchallenged.

The DV victim in your scenario is right to try to escape. And the Iranian regime is inflicting their violence on thousands of people not just one person.

Well if you’re in the UK - you aren’t.

Starmer is getting us involved in a defensive capacity only.

Doteycat · 03/03/2026 09:27

Should have told trump go fuck himself

Regime change in the US would benefit us all a lot more.
Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head heart and soul examined.

Trump has laid out four objectives, later clarified further by the White House.
They are:

  • Destroying the regime's ballistic missile stocks and its capacity to produce new ones. "You see that happening on an hourly basis," Mr Trump said.
  • "Annihilating" the Iranian navy. Ten ships had already been "knocked out" and were "at the bottom of the sea", he said.
  • Preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
  • Stopping Iran from arming, funding and directing proxy militant groups.

And yet he's muddied the waters by calling on Iranians to rise up against the regime, while saying he's willing to make a deal with that same regime. The Iranian's trusted him a few weeks ago when he told them help was coming if they kept up the protests and the regime slaughtered them in their tens of thousands.

CreamolaFoam26 · 03/03/2026 09:29

Not in my name OP!

Why should we get dragged into Israel's plan to take over the middle east.

Oh dear. Ridiculous.

Goldfsh · 03/03/2026 09:43

Starmer is right. I suspect anyone who disagrees isn't old enough to remember Iraq. Or is a Trump bot.

Ihatetomatoes · 03/03/2026 09:48

Superfoodie123 · 02/03/2026 21:58

Why the hell would you want us to go to war with a country thats done absolutely nothing to us? Do you think us bombing Iran along with America and Israel is going to help the Iranian people?

Israel have already killed a school full of children (their favourite hobby) you want us to help them bombing more innocent people? So Iran can come over and do the same as us.

Baffles me how anyone could want to go to war unless they have no idea what's actually happening here

I doubt you will bother reading, but Iran has been behind numerous attempts of terrorist attacks in the UK.

https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/CBP-10413/CBP-10413.pdf

They support Hezbollah, The Houthis, Hamas etc al in attacks in the middle east.

They have slaughtered thousands of their own people.

The school you mention, there are credible accounts that it wasn't Israel or the US.

Many Iranian people who have managed to escape can testify to how awful the regime is.

However, I believe Starmer's position to currently not get involved is correct.

I’m not disagreeing he has muddied the water. Not here to defend everything Trump does, he’s quite often indefensible.

I replied to a poster who said it’s not clear what the war is for. The US have outlined their main objectives.

NotDarkGothicMama · 03/03/2026 10:22

I'm the poster you replied to. They've stated their objectives but Trump makes it impossible to believe them.

pouletvous · 03/03/2026 10:24

I support Starmer. Nobody wants to be part of a war

Clubbiscuit · 03/03/2026 10:26

Starmer has made exactly all the right moves. The US should be ashamed of themselves.

Ahhh - the tolerant radical left. "I'm right , you're wrong and if you dare disagree with me then you must be stupid."

And you think that Trump is the one that's intolerant??

Clubbiscuit · 03/03/2026 10:29

TaffetaPhrases · 03/03/2026 06:36

He should have just told him to fuck
off. My son says the Starner is like the kid in the playground who wants to stay friends with the bully. My son is 12.

It makes us a target cos he knows there ain’t no backbone running this country: that what makes me angry.

He has exactly the backbone that we need. He’s being calm and sensible in the middle of loads of nut cases. And we are definitely no more at risk from Hamas than we ever were - considering they are the ones who fund terrorist attacks in the UK and always have done. Your son is not as clever as you think he is.

Not all left wingers are tolerant. Not sure where you get that from? I’m not. Trump is a dangerous despot. He’s causing problems on so many levels it’s insane.

Edited

Most 12 year olds are still parroting their parents views, by the time he's 16 he'll know everything and should definitely be allowed to vote. 😶
