Conflict in the Middle East

I need to say this out loud

As a British citizen I am disgusted in the utter cowardice of my own government at the moment. If you are an American citizen please believe that there are people in the UK who have no respect for the way we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in the Middle East.
Your government has backbone and courage and wants to do the right thing for all our children’s futures.
I applaud Trump for standing up for his country, military, citizens of Iran…the world, and he doesn't care who he might offend in doing so.
It’s such a pity the same can’t be said for our ‘leader’. I am actually ashamed of my country at this moment in time. I truly hope this changes over the coming days/weeks.

Are you too young to remember the Iraq war?

Why should we get dragged into Israel's plan to take over the middle east.

Oh please, that’s such a classic antisemitic trope - Jews taking over everything.

Israel have expressed no interest in taking over the Middle East - they would however quite like to be allowed to exist in Israel without being attacked.

You think that is what this is about???

😂😂😂

MushMonster · 03/03/2026 05:47

NATO is dead, thanks to Trump. We have our own threat with Russia. Trump did not follow the correct pathways to ensure this is the will of the US people. And you want UK soldiers to risk their life on the offensive here? I cannot believe it!
They have enough with defending our assets.

He should have just told him to fuck
off. My son says the Starner is like the kid in the playground who wants to stay friends with the bully. My son is 12.

It makes us a target cos he knows there ain’t no backbone running this country: that what makes me angry.

Were you under the impression that we've been friendly (or even neutral) with Iran for the past 50 years? Hate to break it to you but we haven't. The good news is that we are no more a target now than we've ever been.

Squirrelsnut · 03/03/2026 06:58

It's to distract from Epstein. Don't be naive.

I don’t mean an Iranian target. Trump and tariffs.

Dontgetfooledagain · 03/03/2026 07:15

So you are seriously suggesting we bomb Iran with Trump in the hope that we dont get stung w more tariffs in the future? Cause I dont think that's a strategy with any likelihood success (as well as being morally reprehensible).

Aliceisagooddog · 03/03/2026 07:21

Fuck Israel and the USA. NOT IN MY NAME.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 03/03/2026 07:21

I would rather tariffs than getting involved with a second illegal war and having our men & women come home in bodybags again.

Of all the takes this is the silliest. Even Americans can hold two thoughts at once.

FWIW I totally disagree within OP position and I glad Starmer is keeping us out of this

Yes this one is a real reach.

The Epstein case hasn't gone away because the US is at war with Iran.

Of course not but it does shift the media focus somewhat. Distract, disassemble, bait and switch is pretty much the Trump playbook.

socks1107 · 03/03/2026 08:07

I’m glad we haven’t gone in with bombs. This isn’t our war and we are right to wait it out.

NotDarkGothicMama · 03/03/2026 08:07

I disagree OP. It's not at all clear what this war is for: regime change, destroying nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities, regional stability..? Trump says multiple different things a day.

We're allowing the US to use our bases in the region but I don't think we should get involved further than that unless and until there's a clear, stated and achievable aim that we agree with and is in the UK's interests.

Has the Epstein case gone away or been forgotten about? No.

People are entitled to disagree with the war of course but please try to think of a better reason than because Epstein.

Trump has laid out four objectives, later clarified further by the White House.
They are:

  • Destroying the regime's ballistic missile stocks and its capacity to produce new ones. "You see that happening on an hourly basis," Mr Trump said.
  • "Annihilating" the Iranian navy. Ten ships had already been "knocked out" and were "at the bottom of the sea", he said.
  • Preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
  • Stopping Iran from arming, funding and directing proxy militant groups.

Trump lists four goals in Iran as Middle East war widens

Speaking at his first White House appearance since the joint US-Israeli attack began, the US president says he seized "our last, best chance" to strike Iran's "sick and sinister regime".

I think domestic pressures are absolutely why Trump is choosing to attack Iran now. Epstein is definitely a pressure point, as are his economic issues and falling popularity. Plus a good brief war is good for commodity prices so his rich supporters will get richer.

So nothing to do with regime change, which was the reason for all the celebrations.... no idea why people believed Trump cared about ordinary civilians in Iran they are just pawns in his games and are probably at more risk now than ever

Regime change was not mentioned when outlining the US's goals at this White House appearance. However, when questioned by CNN he did confirm that US was doing more, beyond the military assault, to help the Iranian people regain control of their country.

I think it's fair to believe though, that regime change is not the US's primary goal. I think there are many reasons for this war and regime change just one of them and not necessarily the most important one to the US. Regime change probably more important to Israel who have been attacked recently by the proxies of the current regime.
