Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

None of this will work.

It will just deepen the already rife hatred accross the middle east and create new enemies that didn't exist before.

The Iranian people are not going to 'rise up' against the regime, the regime will just blow their heads off with an automatic weapon.

It's all futile.

Wait and see.

And there we have it…

Don’t try to stop a regime of homicidal racist maniacs. Because it won’t work 🙄

If we'd had this attitude in 1939 we would be ruled by Nazis now.

UYN · 08/03/2026 15:19

Well it won't. Wait and see.

It isn't Nazi Germany.

What is a good outcome? It is likely to be a good outcome even now, without regime change. A horrible racist regime will be neutered. Sure, it might have to happen again, but that’s something we’ll all have to expect if the loons at the top aren’t replaced.

The Iran regime is only not Nazi Germany because it doesn’t have, and hopefully will never have, a means (nuclear) of killing millions of Jews. In all other respects, it is very much Nazi Germany: deep-seated racist ideology, internal wicked murderous oppression, external mass-killing of Jews and other ‘enemies’.

and I suppose the original people who took America from the indigenous population by killing millions of buffalo, stealing thier land and shooting their heads off were not racist or homicidal.
The original population are still being kettled, segregated and ignored to this day

The irony.

Yey for the freedom fighting American Gov.

Yey.

That’s not a great answer. To say the very least.

It's not Nazi Germany but we are as unprepared for a major conflict as we were in 1938-9.
With your attitude prevailing we probably would have been taken over by the Nazis if Japan hadn't bombed Pearl Harbour in 1941 forcing the Americans to join the war. We were en route to defeat then.

Not sure that comparison works. To the Iranian Theocrats, the US and Isreal are the Nazis.

WTF are you going on about? The issues of the indigenous population of the US has nothing to do with this thread.

UYN · 08/03/2026 15:42

Why people keep trying to relate this to the second world war is beyond me.

The world, and war, has changed beyond all recognition in the last 80 years.

No-one is going to force 'regime change' by lobbing bombs about, killing a few superiors and destroying a few missile launch sites.

It's not going to work.

Wait and see.

Do they matter as much as the Iranian people? Surely most would like the people to be free to thrive.

It does when people are heralding American as the one's who are righteously destrying nations they feel are 'homocidal, evil, oppressive and racist'.

Who made America judge, jury and executioner?

I'm glad Starmer is staying rational and staying out of this nonsense.

The US and Israel are not Nazi regimes although the Iranian theocracy has similarities to the German Nazis of the 20th century aka their aim is to wipe out Israel and all Jews.
BTW it's easy to spell Israel correctly.

Would you prefer the IRGC stays in place?

Of course you maybe right that it will fail to bring about regime change, however what we can say is it has brought about the destruction of the majority of the Iranian regime's weapons (navy, missiles, air force etc) and increasingly their police force.

So even if they remain in power then their ability to inflict harm on other countries and on their own citizens will have been greatly reduced.

I prefer diplomacy.

Long, protracted, lengthy, sensible, rational, boring, valuable diplomacy.

It’s been decades for Iranians. Sanctions included.

What do you think could be said to get them to stop killing those who dissent?

For a couple of years.

But this attack will foster much more anger. Much, much, much more destructive and dangerous anger.

No doubt diplomacy is the preferred way of working but, in case you hadn't noticed, long, protracted and lengthy diplomacy has been going on for years and hasn't worked.

The talks were ongoing. The nuclear weapons inspectors were involved until Trump destroyed the agreement.

That is a question for the professional diplomats in the region - not Trump and his trigger happy sidekicks.

Do you have the data on what % of the 90 million people in Iran support the government or oppose them ?

Seems to me that would be a good starting point for basic info before trying to bomb regime change from the air. Lets say it is the same as Trumps base, 35% or so. That's about 31 million Iranians to be "disposed of".

Of course, it is a feature of authoritarian states that polls are notoriously difficult to do.

But we can try to guess I suppose. What % support do you think there is for the government system / leaders in Iran ?

The anger will be among the Iranian people against their fruit-loop government, a people who were already angry with their rulers for making them poor, oppressing them - especially women, beating them, killing them, and making their country an obnoxious pariah.

It is easy to spell Israel and the great thing is your laptop or phone tell you if you spell it wrong by mistake so I guess people must intend to spell it incorrectly.

Sure but some people just doubt that they way to do it is to bomb their water supplies and cover them in toxic smoke and rain. It's so bad people are being urged to wipe down even packaged food before they eat it. All the people on this thread who say they care about Iranians and not one has expressed concern about the fact that they are currently being smothered? People are being asked to shelter indoors and cover any openings with a damp cloth. The silence is deafening.
