Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

I recall someone saying the neighbour states we’re not for US action but after being struck it’s galvanised them further away from Iran.

An own goal by Iran on that one.

I also don't think that the Iranian President fully understands his Western audience when he apologised for firing hundreds of missiles and drones at his neighbours.

Now if he had simply explained that he has recently been suffering from anxiety issues, that the other mullahs were being mean to him at the Revolutionary Council and that due to the evil imperialist US sanctions he is no longer able to get soy milk for his lattes then I think Western audiences would be far more forgiving.

Re Jews in Iran.
I went to Isfahan in 1976 well before the Religious Revolution. There was a Jewish community there, Well known and very well accepted as an integrated part of the country. I have no idea how things continued after Khomeini.
We flew from Tehran to Tel Aviv, it was a 'direct' flight but we had to go north over Turkey and turn left and enter Israel from the sea. Not allowed over Arab Syria or Iraq.

Only 100 or so protesters in London wanting to stop the war made of up of the usual suspects.

Maybe those on the Islamo left are reading the room and understand it's not a great look to openly support repressive tyrannical ideological regimes that seek to use nuclear weapons?

When UK is potentially target for Iranian espionage and indeed attack it really don't great to look like a pro regime supporter.

You can be against the war and not be pro regime

The news last night interviewed a lady in London ( and others ) who lives in an area with a large Muslim population ( can’t remember local)
She said many people who don’t want this war are keeping silent. Her family aren’t pro the regime but also don’t believe Israel or the US have any right to start an illegal war.
She didn’t have answers but doesn’t believe ( given historical precedent she mentioned) either of them are capable of making anything better for Iranian people.
She also said no one believes that’s their real intention either

So she and others keep quiet about their thoughts.

Id like to think she is wrong about Irans future after the war but I very much doubt it

Interesting… but then again, why not? They are allies.

The irony is that last year when Zelensky asked for help, Trump said no.

I heard about this in some report but it was more of a swap, as in the article

He suggested, in particular, that Ukraine would be willing to swap its interceptor drones for more US Patriot air defences to protect against Russian ballistic missiles.

It seems that the regime supporting idiots are targeting those freedom supporting groups aligned against the regime (presumably made up of Iranian diaspora).....

this is so incentive given how many dies in Iran when expressing anti regime sentiment. To attack those anti regime supporters in London is despicable.

Zelenskyy is prepared to help the US, for a price. There’s a deal to be done.

@Stirabout What would make things better for the Iranian people?

Peanutbutteryday · 07/03/2026 19:24

Sorry I have to admit I don’t understand a lot of this thread and the war itself in detail but can anyone explain to me why Iran said they’d stop bombing neighbours but yet have carried on please

Hyacinthbucketsgarden · 07/03/2026 19:29

I would hazard a guess that there is no co-ordination between the regime and the military because the leaders have been removed.
The chain of command has collapsed.
So now the whole thing is just a shit show, with random military units lobbing missiles around.

Ah ok I see
thanks

QuiteUnbelievable · 07/03/2026 19:46

Yes it could be a sign of a total loss of control

Regime and their military are in agreement according to statements made by both in news today

They will only attack their neighbours if attacked from their first

They are basically saying stop allowing your bases to be used to bomb Iran and you won’t be bombed. Which was fairly obvious from the beginning and why Starmer hasn’t allowed it

what other factions are doing is 🤷‍♀️

And yet they continue to bomb their neighbours ...

Ah ok that also makes sense. thanks for writing it clearly for me. So are UAE still allowing US to use their bases then, or is that the general assumption?

Well if you read my post and the statement you’ll see why

  1. Initially, they thought they could get Arab states to back.them (interview with representative).
  1. Realised they couldn't force neighbours to help so apologised.
  1. Possibly Iran lie. They have lied continuously about them slaughtering their own people.
  1. The regime don't have control over its army and the army do their own thing.

That doesn’t match, which bases are you referring to here specifically?

No idea what’s assumed
some airspace has opened up
