Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

I wonder if the Shah's son will be parachuted in.

I don’t know. Maybe as a figurehead during the transition?

Possibly. I'm assuming he'll do what Trump tells him to.

mids2019 · 28/02/2026 08:04

The initial question is whether the supreme leader dead? The Iranijans have to announce the fact he is breathing quickly or I think there will be a simultaneous uprising.

Do we have a few days of strikes and then an uprising against a demoralised and possibly decapitated military?

mids2019 · 28/02/2026 08:07

I am also going to be interested in Starmer's take on this. We have seen the Muslim vote vanish from Labour in a recent bye election so is he going to be willing to concede that vote is now gone by backing the US verbally?

I think the pro pallys may be getting their anti imperialist war signs out of the cupboard this weekend......

BelleHathor · 28/02/2026 08:09

Nope, I'm sitting watching Trump destroy America and MAGA cursing him out right now, hoping he gets everything he was promised and more beside.

Praying for the innocents in the region.

This is not true.

The JCPOA was opposed by several Gulf states because it gave too much power to Iran and ultimately would have done nothing to stop them developing nuclear weapons.

The three most powerful countries in the Middle East are Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel and two of them made it clear that the JCPOA had failed. And the other was Iran

I wondered what the reality was with the JCPOA.

Cyber attacks on the Iranian state media.....

Here is praying for the people of Iran to rise up against this malevolent regime God willing.

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/02/2026 08:12

I hope the Iranians will come out on the streets today. I wouldn't be surprised if the army leadership buggers off.

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/02/2026 07:39

I was expecting the US to go for Iran or Cuba sooner or later. I didn't anticipate Israel going first.

It is suprisng that Israel went in first, but they would have had the assurance that the US had their back.

TheFilliesWillRiseAgain · 28/02/2026 08:14

If Starmer criticises an attack on Iran that will end his argument that he's respected on the international scene, just not domestically.

I'm more interested in seeing MAGA's response - it is very anti US intervention in foreign countries and did not support ie Trump's attack on Syria in 2017.

He got away with bombing of the nuclear facility in Iran last year and the kidnapping of Maduro because both operations were swift and successful.. it's very unlikely that an attack on Iran will be over quickly

Though I don't believe in God, I agree with the sentiment in this post.

The people of Iran have not deserved the regime they got and have been incredibly brave to protest against them knowing the likely outcome.

Me too. There is footage already of people celebrating in the streets. I wonder how much damage was done to them by the genocide of the last month though

It will be yet another problem for him trying to sit on the fence and appeal to everyone. Time to grow a backbone and take a stand.

In reality no politician with integrity can please everyone on controversial issues.

I think Trump isn't stupid and the intelligence he has would not have lead him to believe Irans regime is stable or can put up much of the fight.

I can see mass uprisings in the next few days and individuals within. The security apparatus will be making their minds up whether he is is game over and time to put down their weapons. Freedom.

Trump indicates goal of Iran strikes is to topple regime; tells Iranian people: ‘When we’re finished, take over your government’

US President Donald Trump indicates that the goal of the ongoing strikes in Iran is to topple the regime, and he calls on the Iranian people to seize the opportunity and take over their government.

“To the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the armed forces and all of the police. I say tonight that you must lay down your weapons and have complete immunity, or in the alternative, face certain death,” Trump says in an eight-minute video statement confirming the US strikes.

“Lay down your arms. You will be treated fairly with total immunity, or you will face certain death,” Trump says.

“To the great, proud people of Iran, I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand. Stay sheltered. Don’t leave your home. It’s very dangerous outside. Bombs will be dropping everywhere,” he continues.

“When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations.”

“For many years, you have asked for America’s help, but you never got it… So let’s see how you respond. America is backing you with overwhelming strength and devastating force,” Trump says.

“Now is the time to seize control of your destiny and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach. This is the moment for action. Do not let it pass,” he adds.

Yes regime change is the goal and alJazeera seems to be suggesting it will happen soon. Hope for those families that have seen their relatives massacred in the recent uprisings.

I hope the Iranian people can throw off this regime.

I also don't think the word genocide should be used lightly as it distorts the meaning. It was a terrible massacre but not a "genocide".

EasternStandard · 28/02/2026 08:29

That statement is direct. I hope the Iranian people prevail.

TheNuthatch · 28/02/2026 08:32

Thank you for this thread op.
I really hope the regime falls, fast.

That's fair enough.

Not sure what actually constitutes a genocide - is 30,000 killed (if that is the real number, we don't know for sure) in a month a massacre or a genocide? Happy to use the correct definition

I don't think there's actually much evidence Israel did go first.

From what's in the public domain so far (including some imagery) this has all the hallmarks of being co-ordinated action right from the start.

jojogwangwan · 28/02/2026 08:39

I don’t like trump, at all, but I’m fully in support of the regime being destroyed. The Iranian people are in my thoughts today
