Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

Hope so!

85 killed in a strike on a primary school in southern Iran, mostly young girls. Shame on the warmongers and their apologists.

Says Iran by any chance?

Has this been verified? I saw this report a few hours ago, but the BBC couldn't verify at that point.

You mean by one of their own missiles misfiring, seeing as it was in an IRGC compound next to the school? Shame on them indeed.

Oh where do I remember the denial about murder of children, seems strangely familiar?

Yes I clearly remember MN going into meltdown when "Israel bombed a hospital" and one of Hamas' rockets had blown up the car park instead, and they quickly laid out some bodies and did a press conference claiming it was Israel. Very familiar.

Right. Unsurprisingly, The Guardian was reporting it as having happened while stoically avoiding any images or reports of support inside Iran for the US attacks.

I would denounce them but this point I expect nothing less than pathetic bias from the Hamas apologists.

Let's not circulate Iranian propaganda.

War photographer Maryam Mazrooei is sharing a lot from Iran on IG. Her interview with the Telegraph last week was fantastic.

Thanks, @TerracottaWorrier .

Why would Israel or the U.S. randomly target a school in Iran? Why would they want to purposefully alienate people who’ve been asking for their support?

SpaceRaccoon · 28/02/2026 20:20

The whole operation today has been an incredible example of intelligence gathering. Wiping out the senior leadership on one blow. Amazing.

Very sad, of course.

Just as sad as the thousands killed by the regime after the uprising. There wasn't much outrage about them on MN.

Unconfirmed reports that Iran's supreme leader is dead

Following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying there are "growing signs" that Iran's supreme leader is "gone", we are seeing unconfirmed reports that he has been killed by US-Israeli strikes.

Reuters, citing a senior Israeli official, reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's body has been found.

Axios, citing a source, says Israeli ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter has informed US officials that Khamenei was killed in the strike on his compound in Tehran.

And multiple Israeli outlets, including News 12 and Times of Israel, are citing Israeli officials also claiming that the supreme leader has died.

Agreed, but would that be an ok justification for an unprovoked attack on Israel? Because they are oppressing, torturing and murdering a people within a territory controlled by Israel and have been for decades.
I will never support any war.

SpaceRaccoon · 28/02/2026 20:36

Honestly until I see concrete proof, I'm not going to believe any claims by the IRCG.
There's a perfectly plausible suggestion that this was a misfired Iranian missile, and that seems most likely to me.

Also hilariously, Iranian TV is claiming Khameni isn't dead, so that's about how truthful they are.

inamarina · 28/02/2026 20:37

Just saw this on X, people in Iran celebrating:

I mean they keep trying. They've not managed to win yet though.
