Conflict in the Middle East

Why are Palestinians tortured in Israeli prisons?

Leftisrightisleft · 15/10/2025 08:56

We have heard time and time again from detained Palestinians once they are freed, about the extensive torture and abuse they faced at the hands of Israeli prisons guards.

Is this legal in Israel? Is that why nothing is done about it?

Freed Palestinian prisoner alleges torture and deaths in Israeli detention

Akram al Basyouni, who spent nearly two years in custody, tells Sky News that prisoners were beaten "so savagely our ribs were shattered".

Did somebody actually say this? I would be very shocked if mumsnet allows users to say such things.

Yes, they did yesterday and yes it is very very shocking

What?

Did you read the article? Palestinian detainees, many of whom were held without any charge have repeatedly spoken about how they were tortured in Israeli prison. Anyone who condones the torture of innocents be they Israeli, or Palestinian, has truly lost their humanity.

And mumsnet left it to stand? I can't believe this.

Because it happens in every conflict sadly. It's what violent men do.

Please don't report it though anyone. It really needs to stand as does he defence of it.

Yes read the full post in the link that @Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice shared.

It was referring to a comment made by Likud party member Hanoch Milwidsky about Hamas militants/terrorists.

He was not referring to ‘innocents’.

I am really not bothered if posters on here think that it is shocking that I don’t care if a terrorist has a stick put up his arse.

Which never happened anyway…….

Why do I need to defend it?

I am quite OK with it standing!

This is really sickening and I hope that this is a lone view. It would be a scary world to live in where people condone rape.

Can you imagine if people defended the crimes of Hamas the way people defend the crimes of Israel?

What a load of hysterical nonsense.

I’m a monster because I don’t care what happens to evil terrorists in Israeli prisons?

Deranged.

Yawn.

CatsMagic · 15/10/2025 15:28

This little wide eyed innocent routine is fucking laughable.

I don’t think you are as naive as you are making out by any means. Just want to point out that the majority of us see Hamas for what they are - a brutal terrorist organisation.

In a HWW report from October 2024,healthcare workers who had been locked inside Israeli detention facilities gave testimonies of being electrocuted, hung by their arms from ceilings, being sexually assaulted and having their genitals mutilated.”

“Frankly, no matter how much I talk about what I experienced in detention, it is only a fraction of what truly happened,” says Abu Selmia.
“I am talking about being clubbed, being beaten with rifle butts and being attacked by dogs. There was little to no food, no personal hygiene, no soap inside the cells, no water, no toilet, no toilet paper … I saw people who were dying there.
“Every day is a humiliation, every day is degradation. There you are just a number, you are not a hospital director or a human being. I was beaten so badly I couldn’t use my legs or walk. No day passes without torture.”

‘No rules’: Gaza’s doctors say they were tortured, beaten and humiliated in Israeli detention

Healthcare workers are protected under international law yet hundreds were detained during the war. Now, some of Gaza’s most senior doctors have spoken of the violence and abuse they say they faced

These are the type of people who truly believe Hamas atrocities are ‘justified resistance’ and these terrorists are just misunderstood and traumatised by Israel having security measures in place to try to stop them killing Jews.

Poor lambs.

I have been wondering whether the 'deniers' on Mumsnet are not all or even mostly ordinary contributors who hold particular views, but are part of a publicity campaign on behalf of the Israeli state. The tone of many posts is so similar, expressing a kind of naive puzzlement about why Lush is bothering to protest by closing stores, or why pensioners are risking getting arrested, or why so many people are unable to understand that Palastine Action is an evil terrorist organisation. I'm not sure that ordinary people who are so ill-informed would bother posting...

What, you mean like .....trolls? Bots?

Katiesaidthat · 15/10/2025 15:43

And this is the history of a region where life isn´t worth a dime, where there is a competition as to who can be the nastiest bastard in the territory, from all sides. I think they will continue to kill each other till the dawn of time, from slaughter to slaughter and massacre to massacre. Everyone else is at fault. With religious nutjobs in charge I wouldn´t have expected anything less from all of them.

caringcarer · 15/10/2025 15:46

Why were Israeli prisoners raped?

Well they were captured by a terrorist organisation.

Why were Palestinian detainees, held by a recognised state?

Hellinnnnn · 15/10/2025 15:53

It’s gone on for years. In 1990 I was studying overseas and shared accommodation with several Palestinians one of whom talked about his time as a teenager in an Israeli jail where he was locked for days on end in a cage too small even to stand up.
I can’t comment on the reasons he was arrested as I don’t know. Potentially they were justifiable (although you’d query his receipt of a study visa if they were). But that doesn’t justify inhumane conditions whether that be for an adult or, as he’s been, a child.
My DS had an Israeli friend whose academic father was routinely imprisoned because of his criticism of the state’s behaviour. A state that is doing things by the book shouldn’t feel the need to do this.
It seems there are two bad actors on this stage but external onlookers are drawn towards single sides are become as poisoned and evil in their observations and commentary as each of the actors. These threads make unpleasant reading.

Rather than make cryptic accusations about posters on other threads try to challenge them on the thread you're musing about. I started the Lush thread and I'm an <checks notes> ordinary person thanks. Did you even post on it?

I understand it must be difficult to challenge those who criticise the pro pal hysteria and the anti semitism as we all seem very sensible and well read but to mysteriously suggest that we are Israeli government bots is a stretch even by the citme boards desperate standards.

Lots of footage of released palestinians screaming they'll be doing another Oct 7th and worse as soon as they can get themselves organised. Lovely bunch, all held for no reason whatsoever obviously.

And footage of Benny Nets basically rubbing his hands with glee at the idea that Hamas won't find all the body's and effectively invalidate the ceasefire so he can go in with all the force he wants and Trumps blessing.

But actually, please share those clips because I haven't seen them.
