What was the purpose of this level of destruction?

Gazans are returning to their homes and are horrified to see the level of destruction. Their joy mixed with despair.

We can feel joy that the hostages are returning home, relief that Hamas will be sidelined - but how do we reconcile with the death and destruction that has happened in Gaza?

No. We are saying war is awful. Destruction is extreme. But we are also saying that it has happened elsewhere apart from Gaza, and that in another war, in another place, it will happen again. Happening now in Ukraine.

This does not negate or lesson the horrors we see in Gaza now caused by Israeli bombing

How do you explain the fact that many western doctors who are not Muslim and have no connection to Palestine other than the fact that they’ve gone out to help because they are humanitarians have reported seeing children being killed at point blank by the IDF many many times. It's been all over the news, try Sky or BBC there's plenty of images of healthy looking gazans everywhere.

No-one take any notice of the UN even less so a un 'commission'.

Shortages yes, hardship yes, all the usual in a war. Blame hamas.

Israel facilitated the largest amount of aid ever delivered in war.

Look up the figures yourself if you want to argue that.

It is unprecedented to have a government in today’s era that actively wants as many of its own civilians as possible to die in a war they started, and publicly states that.

That might help you understand where the aid has gone and the number of civilian deaths, which are unverified and include combatant deaths. Again it’s unprecedented to include enemy combatants in a death toll from a war and ANYONE accept that is a legitimate civilian death toll.

What do you think about how this war has been perceived might slightly different from other wars?

Back to the thread title the level of destruction is horrendous. They will be years coming back from this. I really want to see independent assessors getting access now so the dead can be retrieved from the rubble and proper safe zones for civilians established.
