Conflict in the Middle East

What was the purpose of this level of destruction?

Stripes56 · 12/10/2025 22:47

Gazans are returning to their homes and are horrified to see the level of destruction. Their joy mixed with despair.

www.timesofisrael.com/gazans-joy-over-ceasefire-tempered-by-shock-as-they-return-to-destroyed-homes/

We can feel joy that the hostages are returning home, relief that Hamas will be sidelined - but how do we reconcile with the death and destruction that has happened in Gaza?

I don’t think it will happen for now.

I think it will be brushed under the carpet by this US led peace effort. Trump doesn’t have an interest in human rights, lasting peace…. He wanted the images that were making him look bad to stop coming. There will be no acknowledgement.

Hopefully in the future, with different people involved, there can be an acknowledgment of the enormity of what has happened in Gaza.

Even from an Israeli perspective I was even just thinking while , listening to one of the hostages family on the radio. There is something horrible that I can’t put into words there about the victims of 7/10 and how the Israeli government harnessed that pain and used it for evil basically. Horrific things happened to them and instead of talking about these very awful, very real things. The Israeli government were pushing this narrative of things that did not happen - like the beheaded babies and the burnt children. Like the real painful stories weren’t enough for them or something.

There will be a lot to unpick here by Israeli society generally. But probably not right now.

I disagree I think countries and organisations will be unpicking and investigating the war crimes
They have a responsibility to do so
The US have no authority in that area

Destruction of Gaza

This article From Le Monde ( sept 2025) gives some insight OP to the purpose behind Israel’s destruction of Gaza

NEWSThe Israeli military has targeted the urban infrastructure of Gaza's largest city to “gain control”and driving a mass exodus
Over the past 10 or so days, the Israeli army has systematically destroyed the urban infrastructure of Gaza's largest city as part of its offensive to seize control.
An IDF officer said it was a gradual process.
For residents, the "gradual" pace was barely noticeable. Instead,

Israel appeared to carry out the threats of Defense Minister Israel Katz, who vowed on September 5 to open "the gates of hell" on Gaza.

Fighter jets, drones and explosive robots unleashed massive bombardments that levelled entire neighbourhoods . At night, explosions lit the sky, the air grew unbreathable and the noise of blasts was deafening

What was the purpose of this level of destruction?

Israel are damned either way - people will find the evidence they are looking for - and this is mostly evidence provided by a death cult - I don't think the dots have been fully joined up by those opposing Isreal.
Just for context in relation to the percentage of murdered civilians during the Hamas slaughter, the equivalent death toll would be 8,000 people slaughtered in the UK. How would be all react to that one then?

THIS fact alone is why I support Israel to retaliate, with ‘MILiTARY’ action to defend itself and protect its borders and civilians.

Most of what you’ve written is in accurate and propaganda. How do you explain the fact that many western doctors who are not Muslim and have no connection to Palestine other than the fact that they’ve gone out to help because they are humanitarians have reported seeing children being killed at point blank by the IDF many many times. They’ve seen injuries in children that show they were shot to kill. Many of the doctors who’ve volunteered have seen Israeli drones specifically targeting children and killing them !
take your propaganda into another thread because no one here believes it ! There’s no excuse for a genocide so don’t embarrass yourself

SameOldHill · 13/10/2025 05:27

Isreal’s military actions are held to such a high level of accountability and scrutiny

Are you kidding me? They haven’t been held to any accountability whatsoever! The US has given them the go ahead and the military to raze Gaza to the ground. Our government has supplied parts for their aircraft as well as surveillance of Palestine.

A few slaps on the wrist every time they go too far and a “don’t worry Israel are investigating themselves”

Please do tell me in what way Israel have been held accountable for Hind Rajab’s death?

HellsBalls · 13/10/2025 06:12

@DrPrunesqualer ‘Destruction of Gaza’

It’s called war. Hamas started it, and everyone is surprised Israel went in hard?

The amount of outrage at the losing side getting a beating is amazing. The amount of indignation that there is now a ceasefire equally so.
The Israelis, and the IDF, can sleep soundly knowing they have minimized civilian casualties in the war against terrorism.

The Pro-Palestinians should be celebrating what the IDF have done to Hamas.

FenceBooksCycle · 13/10/2025 06:15

The point was to ensure that when ordinary people tried to return, they would be so overwhelmed by the scale of the destruction that they would give up and apply to go and live in Egypt or Jordan or somewhere else permanently rather than having any hope for rebuilding.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 13/10/2025 06:20

The level of destruction is due to nearly all buildings having boobie trap bombs planted inside by Hamas

🤔 That's a lot of dynamite....

AhWeNoss · 13/10/2025 06:21

juggleit · 12/10/2025 23:35

The level of destruction is due to nearly all buildings having boobie trap bombs planted inside by Hamas.
The safest method to diffuse these was for the IDF to blow them
Up in a controlled approach.
If the IDF had gone building to building and dismantled them one by one the war could of continued for a greater period of time.
Ironically the buildings would of been levelled any way by returning palenstian people.
The lack of military understanding from the by standing Western populations explains why this war is totally misunderstood - ignorance is not a defence.

It’s extraordinary the extents people will go to in order to deceive themselves that something terrible was justified.

Thank you

Whatever excuses those trying to square the circle in trying to reason the IDF’s actions, the overwhelming impression is of cruel vengeance.

Remember the IDF’s military leads said that there were no more necessary military objectives left many months ago? They didn’t want to go into Gaza city- so they just blitzed it instead.

There seems nothing proportionate about this level of destruction of infrastructure.

Polls in Israel show that Israelis do not share the same level of concerns that others in the world do about what has been happening in Gaza. I agree it’s going to be a slow process, for some, with a lot of denial. I am not sure even if their children will be able to unpick it- as I have read the young are also quite right wing. More so than older generations! As an example-

I am not sure some in Israel want the world to reflect on what’s happened either.

The Israeli Ester propaganda project is focused on influencing people in the states. They are spending vasts amount to influence people to think positively about Israel. What they fear is that they will continue to loose pro-Israeli sentiment in the U.S.

“If this trend continues,” Kirk wrote, “Israel risks losing not only the next generation but the political cover it depends on in Washington.”

www.timesofisrael.com/israels-secret-esther-project-doj-filings-reveal-paid-us-influencer-campaign/

I think we will see a lot of posts explaining why it was all necessary as part of this PR campaign - like in this thread- particularly as more pictures come out of Gaza, and we hear from Palestinians. We may also finally get international journalists into Gaza too. A lot for the Ester project to fight against.

37 people died in Gaza last night as 300 Hamas military attempted to take occupation of a disused hospital building that one of the major Palestinian families had moved into after finding their homes no longer existed.

Hamas is vile, well armed, financed by Iran, and has a declared intent to wipe out Israel completely and people wonder why Israel flatten buildings trying to remove that threat.

ThatLadyLady · 13/10/2025 07:48

Genocide.

They’re acting like the Palestinians will now just go back to normal. Their entire infrastructure has been destroyed, they won’t be able to rebuild.

Roughly the equivalent of six Hiroshima bombs were dropped over Gaza,
more than the carpet bombings of Dresden , Hamburg and London combined.

It’s extraordinary how deliberately uninformed people pretend they are because they don’t want to admit anything that doesn’t fit their narrative.

Look up the reports from military experts who have visited Gaza who have more qualification to give an opinion than anyone on here.

Quite.

How do you explain the casualty figures being so low in comparison to the casualty figures from Hiroshima?

PurpleThistle7 · 13/10/2025 08:24

I think terrible things have happened in every war. War is awful and hideous and nothing good comes of it. But when the alternative is the destruction of your own family then what are you left with? No one is winning here and no one is walking away from this unscathed.

But at the end of the day, Israel is fighting against an enemy who wants every single one of them dead. There’s no other end to this for Hamas and all their backers. And if they win and all the Jews and Israelis march off into the sea then they just turn their attention to the rest of the western world without the distraction of the only Jewish country on their doorstep. There’s no peaceful outcome here and it’s heartbreaking.

crumpet · 13/10/2025 08:33

To the original op question, I am not sure that the Gaza a returning would be surprised at the level of destruction as it has been so highly publicised.

War is awful. The US lost nearly 3000 people on 9/11. The US war on terror which followed killed nearly 1million people of which nearly half a million were civilians. Let’s not pretend the Israel/Gaza conflict is unique in its awfulness.

I wonder what will happen when Israelis and their supporters have to acknowledge the enormity of what they did? It will not be possible to hide behind these bizarre fabrications forever. The evidence will be overwhelming.

I wonder what will happen when the supporters of Hamas and Gaza who bought into anti Israel and Jewish propaganda realise they’ve been played by terrorists. I hope they will apologise for the vitriol and racism they’ve been trying to justify.

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 13/10/2025 08:39

What was the purpose? To defeat the terrorist rapists and murderers Hamas, and destroy their huge network of tunnels, where they stored their weapons and sheltered (but didn’t allow women and children in, of course).

How do you explain the casualty figures being so low in comparison to the casualty figures from Hiroshima?

But I thought you said there were no IDF related bombings?
I can refer you to the papers <out of many> that support these findings one was by Prof Paul Rogers who talked about it in a podcast , another is a Harvard paper issued by FxB center for health and human rights , that also states the amount of destruction.

but let’s site deaths of Children by IDF :

“This is not crossfire. These are war crimes,” American emergency physician Mimi Syed told Volkskrant. She documented 18 children shot in the head or chest.
California trauma surgeon Feroze Sidhwa told the paper he initially assumed the cases were isolated until he encountered multiple boys in one hospital, all shot directly in the head. Later, when he compared notes with other international doctors, he realised it was widespread. “This is targeted fire. Someone is pulling a trigger on a child,” he said.
Forensic pathologists consulted by Volkskrant reviewed X-rays and confirmed the wounds were consistent with long-range sniper or drone fire, not shrapnel from explosions. Former Dutch army commander Mart de Kruif said the sheer number of children shot in the head or chest made the claim of “accidents” implausible.
“This is not collateral damage. It is intentional,” he said.

“In August, the BBC World Service uncovered more than 160 cases of children in Gaza shot by Israeli forces. In 95 of those cases, the children were hit in the head or chest – injuries, doctors said, that leave little doubt they were deliberately targeted.
Most of the victims were under 12 years old, according to the BBC’s findings. The incidents stretch from the opening weeks of the war in October 2023 through July this year.”
