App to boycott Israeli goods

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 10:49

the “No Thanks” app, which first appeared almost two years ago carrying a large list of companies and brands consumers might consider boycotting because of Israeli links.
The app has become a key tool for the BDS movement that targets Israel economically for the actions of its government and its military in Gaza.
Along with a list of companies and brands to boycott, the app allows users to scan barcodes to find out more about the relationship particular products have with Israel.

@Larrypitt not to further your derailment from the point of this thread but confused by this
“"Zionist" has become the go-to insult for the useful idiots who applaud self-determination and a country of their own for other minorities, but somehow think that shouldn’t apply to Jews.”

I am an atheist, do I get my own country? Do gay people get their own country? this is great news, I would like a country with a warm climate and sea views can I just invade somewhere?

Where do atheism and gayness originate from then?(!) cos you could try there...unless you haven't really thought it through.

Everexpanding · 21/09/2025 13:50

@quantumbutterfly the poster mentioned religion and minority status as qualifying for a country of your very own, just confused by his logic

'British trip-hop group Massive Attack announced Thursday they were joining an initiative to block their music in Israel and have also asked for their songs to be removed from Spotify'

Massive attack? Weren't they popular in the 90s? Whatever. I bet Isrealis couldn't give a rat's ass if some petulant celebs behave like this. However, it is rather hypocritical. Civilians are innocent, so why punish them?

I'd laugh if it wasn't so bonkers. You at worried about innocent Israeli citizens being 'punished' by not being allowed to listen to a song not basis that "Civilians are innocent, so why punish them?" whilst justifying the literal killing of innocent Palestinian civilians.

The racism is so transparent when the right to listen to music is deemed more serious than the right to life.

Nice try, inferring I am being racist with a bit of holocaust inversion. Jews are recognised as an ethno-religious group (in this country and many others it is recognised by law). Why do you believe the Jewish people do not have the right to srlf determination?

willowtree99 · 21/09/2025 14:00

SharonEllis · 21/09/2025 12:59

Im not sure what you mean by 'zionist' here?

Zionist-free=unassociated with Israel.

I didn't say the right to listen to music is important, I agree with you Massive Attack's boycott is absolutely ridiculous and like many celebs they are making tits of themselves with these sickening publicity stunts.

The point is civilians are innocent on both sides so no one should be boycotted by has been celebs using the conflict for clicks.

Is there one for brands with Chinese links, after their genocide of Uyghur Muslims?

How about one for brands with ties to Iran after their funding of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis?

Or one for brands with ties to the UAE after they happily transfer weapons to Sudan after the recent genocide there?

Or one for brands with ties to Russia?

Or is it only Jews we hold to account?

Whataboutery and so soon.

It’s not only Jewish people living in Israel, btw.

What a pillock

Why is someone a pillock for holding opinions. You do, presumably?

Zionist-free=unassociated with Israel.

Why not say Israeli-free then? You know zionism specifically relates to Jews. Israel is a country of diverse religions. Why use the word that only relates to Jews?

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2025 14:04

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 14/09/2025 19:47

Yes, of course, people have a choice. But why ALL the focus on Israel when there are equally appalling genocides happening all over the world? Why is it only Israel that is blamed and has people protesting and targeting Jews?

It isn’t. People can support other boycotts, too.

I've often found that curious, aryans were indo-iranian. Blonde & blue-eyed types don't immediately come to mind.

Poor Jewish people, too brown for Hitler, not brown enough for identity politics wonks.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2025 14:09

SirHumphreyRocks · 15/09/2025 17:42

Yes really. My Jewish friends (including several living in Tel Aviv) do not support the actions of the Israeli government. It seems you are trying to suggest that all Jewish people (or all Israeli people, since not all Israeli's are Jewish?) support what is happening in Gaza. And that then makes anyone opposed to the Israeli governments actions anti-semitic? That would not be true though. We are quite capable of recognising that an entire people cannot be held accountable for the actions of their government. Whoever their government may be.

As Malcolm Rifkind pointed out this morning on LK programme. A protest by 500,000 people, many of them Jewish by faith, many hostage families, against Netanyahu’s far-right government is a huge percentage of a relatively small population.

Yes. Sorry, the point being?

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2025 14:12

GeneralPeter · 15/09/2025 18:06

PP has a point though.

Would you feel a little uneasy using an app that warned you where Pakistani sex offenders near you lived? Or subscribing to a newsletter dedicated to exposing wrongdoing by women MPs. The focus on those specific groups would, at least, make you wonder about the motives of the makers.

Edited

They don’t because it isn’t 🤷‍♀️

This. The obsessive hatred for Israel turns my stomach. No one gives a shit about any other conflict. No Jews = no news

What utter nonsense. Of course people do.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2025 14:10

Yes. Sorry, the point being?

Well you said it isnt only Jewish people living I'm Israel, so I pointed out at 75% they are the majority Confused.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2025 14:14

What utter nonsense. Of course people do.

As I understand it, the App doesn’t only give information on companies based in Israel but companies based in other areas of conflict around the world, that people may wish not to support for various reasons.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2025 14:18

Sorry, completely misquoted in that last post!

ironically, the reply was to @General Peter, not myself 😁

There are far more Christian zionists than there are Jewish zionists.

Given what we know of the terror attack in Lebanon i would not only not want an Israeli manufactured pager, but also one which had no association with the zionist entity throughout its supply chain.

Gloriia · 21/09/2025 14:49

'Given what we know of the terror attack in Lebanon i would not only not want an Israeli manufactured pager'

I don't think those pagers were readily available on Amazon though. I think that client base was specifically identified. It wasn't a terror attack it was an attack on terrorists. Fixed that for you.
